@ 01:16 - Saw a guy at the grocery store the other day waving his foot underneath the backside of one of these and had no idea what he was doing. It was icy/snowy out and he fell flat on his ass. He had 3 bags of groceries in one hand and a case of beer (in long neck bottles) in the other. He saved the beer, it never hit the ground.
I love everything about this car and I'm not usually a CR-V guy. It's just really annoying, because I absolutely hate those digital speedometers... why can't manufacturers just make a beautiful watch-like set of gauges anymore? Like a steering wheel and shifter, it's something you spend a lot of time with each time you get in a car. Make it visually appealing, easy on the eyes, easy to read and make it age well with the car. Strangely enough, although there may not be many like me, I don't think I'm alone in not considering cars that have don't have analog gauges (it would have to be an amazing car or the best deal around to buy one with digital gauges). And i'm under 30 so it's not just an "older-person" preference. To me, it just looks like they are cutting costs by sticking in a slab of a screen behind the steering wheel instead of analog gauges.
I always hate that auto makers will upgrade the lights to hid's or led's and keep the fog lights halogens. It almost ruins the look of it. It cant be that much more to make them
Hey Steve. I really like this redesign. This actually looks more unisex than ever before. I agree. Honda should offer a more powerful engine with the 8sp dct from Acura.
So looking forward to picking up my new 2017 CRV next week. Had a 2010 model and loved it. Glad I watched the reviews too...I'm proud to be a Honda owner. Will never drive anything else again.
I have an Escape Titanium and I love it, but this is good! Honda nailed this out of the park! Looks like Ford needs to take some notes and make some adjustments to the Escape to keep it up there with the CRV.
For the people commenting saying it's a boring CVT. the buyer for this vehicle is a small family or an older couple. I work in Sales at Venice Honda in Venice FL where everyone is 55 and over. We sell about 60 CRVs a month out of a little store in a town of 21,000 people. This is perfect for the buyers we have coming in the door. If you want something sporty go buy a civic hatch or something.
still wont offer a panoramic sunroof.....in the US. Current CRV and HRV are offered in other countries with the bigger sunroof. But deffinetly an upgrade from current CRV.
The 2017 Cr-v is a huge improvement over the 2016, drove a Touring to fill it up with gas fresh off the delivery truck. Like a whole new vehicle. Now the cr-v will be competitive for people who shop different brands.
Still can't beat the murano which is more upscale, more powerful and quicker. Even goes further on a tank of gas. Both run on a cvt. Dnd carry 5 people and weigh 2 tons. With 14ft long chasis.
I've been looking at a new RDX, mostly drawn by the V6. I see this as better looking in and out. Better AWD design, suspension, center stack (no 2 screen distraction). Would be nice to see what the EX trims feature/look like, don't like Touring model wheels, particularly the impractical gloss black paint. Faux woodgrain rarely looks good.
Great Review! I am first time watching Steve Hammes review, I became fan of him. In just 6 minute review he covered many things, I watch TFL/AlexOnAutos/RedLineReviews no one do such great job. Thanks Steve! All the best!
Hi Steve! what's your take on CVT Trans? I've read many negative about longevity and reliability of CVT but yet most car maker especially on this segment are offering in cvt Trans. I'm looking at either this new CRV or the new ridgeline. Thanks in advance!
Just learned the murano at nearly the same exterior length and weight as the crv has more interior volume. I thought hondas were the gurus of interior space, so how can a similarly sized murano have more passenger volume? The crv has more cargo volume so it puts the priority on your stuff while muranoputs the priority on people.
nailed it as always...agree, a larger displacement turbo motor would have solidified the CR-V as the (only) go-to in the compact SUV segment, forcing the hand of the other major players...the NA market would easily benefit from a 2.0T in the EX & above CR-V while the LX/SE could have championed the 1.5T...do you know if the HR-V will get the Earth Dreams motor? Is there an HR-V update due out soon?
I also do not like cars with that low load height because of how low the bumper is I've seen so many cars like that around here with smushed in lift gates that probably don't even work anymore
You guys in America seem to be quiet retro with regards to the CVT....it should be the only way forward this is because power is available AT ALL SPEEDS and that is very practical...i have a civic turbo and love the cvt....but for some strange reason, u all want a manual shifter....
TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes Is the right side camera still there with the Honda Sensing package? I hear it that blind spot monitoring will be features in other Hondas beside the Odyssey and Pilot. And the CR-V is one of them.
TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes how do you like the premium 9 speaker sound system quality-wise can you find out who manufactures the sound system is it Harman Kardon?
TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes can you ask why they do not offer the panoramic sunroof option they need to make it an option why does Canadian version has it we don't get it it's ridiculous
TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes thank you so much I look forward to knowing the supplier and please tell Honda loud and clear that it's customers would like to have a panoramic sunroof for USA model
Thanks for the review. Love the shot of you passing in front of the "Hudson River Front" overpass sign, and the one right afterward of the spinning wheel. As for the car, I'll have to see it in person. To me, these days, Hondas keep getting better and better while getting simultaneously uglier and uglier. I also don't understand this right lane camera business Honda likes (Lane Watch). Why not just the usual blind spot monitoring system? Don't Honda drivers have blind spots on their drivers' sides, too? This was a big negative in our research into the Fit and Civic.
Hi Steve, Thanks for the review. What is the color of the CRV that you test drove. Looks good. I am planning to buy a new CRV and looking for a good color to select. - Veerendra
The CR-V's all-wheel drive system consists of the conventional front-wheel-drive system, a compact transfer case that distributes torque through the propeller shaft running the length of the vehicle, the rear differential, an electronically-controlled hydraulic pump, a multi-plate clutch, and left and right rear-wheel driveshafts. The multi-plate clutch connects the propeller shaft to the rear differential and is operated by an electric motor driving a hydraulic pump. For 2017, the maximum hydraulic pressure has been increased, resulting in a 57 percent increase in the available torque transfer to the rear axle. The electric motor is controlled by the Intelligent Control System, which means that the system can actively apportion power based on the conditions. The system doesn't merely react to front wheel spin; it minimizes wheel spin before it happens by sending power to the rear wheels accordingly. For efficiency, the electric motor activating the hydraulic pump is idled when not required, further reducing drag within the system and helping to reduce energy consumption.
Test drove a CR-V Touring right after an Escape Titanium, and the power on the CR-V feels anemic and the ride less sporty. I love it's design and it's awesome technology (the hands off lane assist for 3 seconds is a marvel to witness), but the engine and drive, for me, is dismal and boring. When you mash the gas, the engine whine sounds like you're hurting it. No paddle shifters and a tiny moon roof to boot?? Come on, Honda!! I do also understand that it has 50 less hp than the Ford, but I do think Honda made a mistake by not offering other engine choices. On the other hand, the interior volume is a sight to behold for a car in this class. I'm so torn. LOL
Honda should be ashamed this compact suv weighs the same as anmidnsized murano. They are about the same length too. For the same weight and length as the murano with 260 hp themuranos the clear champ with the panoramic moonroof, 20" rims and cooled seats muranonoutclasses the crv with its surround view cam!
Stillnfrumpy looking. It's certainly no murano. It lost weight? It still nearlt 2 tons it weighs as much as a mid-sized murano. But murano has260hp. Murano wins this comparison for me. Murano has better sound with 11 speakers vs 9 better acceleration7. 1 to 60 vs8. And you go further on a tank of gas in the murano. Only murano has surroundview cam, cooled seats, panoramic moonroof. Obviously it has more interior vole being a bigger suv: 108vs105
Thats what I've got. And I'll contest that mine has better room in the back than this. My seats fold up better than those ones making for more boot space.
They are??? Honda is based in Japan? The new CR-V is produced at three plants in North America - in East Liberty, Ohio; Alliston, Ontario, Canada; and, for the first time, in Greensburg Indiana. Engines for the new CR-V are manufactured in Anna, Ohio and in Alliston, Ontario, while the CVT is produced by Honda in Russells Point, Ohio.
This is an aggresive look? Still frumpy looking. I 100% agree with your review of the new CRV. it's simply amazing for the class it is in!

my 99 crv still going strong.
I suspect that while current CRV owners may not care about better driving dynamics, it will help attract more younger buyers.
I've always thought that Honda should offer the CR-V with their corporate 3.5L V6. But that would steal some more thunder from the Acura RDX.
cadsux that's so unfortunate considering that Honda products are now so much better and more worthwhile than Acura
I love everything about this car and I'm not usually a CR-V guy. I follow quite a few auto reviewers but Steve is the first one to make me take a serious look at the CR-V. Darn it Steve!
PunxsutawneyDave Ha! That's funny.
There are grocery bag hooks on both sides (aka hooks for a net). You'll see little buttons, push them and the hooks swing out.
It's very sleek, very modern and futuristic looking. It looks like something straight out of one of the Transformer's movies.
I always hate that auto makers will upgrade the lights to hid's or led's and keep the fog lights halogens. It almost ruins the look of it. It cant be that much more to make them
Scott Mossburg that annoys me as well.
Huge pet peeve of mine, as well. I should have brought that up.
Hey Steve. I really like this redesign. This actually looks more unisex than ever before. I agree. Honda should offer a more powerful engine with the 8sp dct from Acura.
Good way to put it.
Sometimes I feel it’s gross injustice for people who bought previous generation for the same amount of money!
at least they brought the volume knob back rather than that stupid touch control
So looking forward to picking up my new 2017 CRV next week. Had a 2010 model and loved it. Glad I watched the reviews too...I'm proud to be a Honda owner. Will never drive anything else again.

Another advantage to a conventional automatic would be some towing capacity. Being able to pull a small utility trailer is really useful.
Awesome vehicle. Honda never disappoints.
No suv is perfect but$$$ wise it is very hard to beat i love this vehicle.
I agree, it needs a bigger engine and an auto box instead of their boring CVT.
Dustin Morris 💯%
I miss the manual transmission of the early ones. I hate CVT.... Beautiful new model......
Eric Miranda y7790
I just decided to buy this for my mom but then I found out about the oil dilution issue with the 1.5 liter turbo engine.
Best CRV yet! It's perfection.
Great video Steve!!
You know you need a refresh when your biggest praise is a volume knob!
so everyone knows . this engine with 1.5 turbo and CVT is almost 1.5 seconds faster to 60 than a 2016 with the 2.4 liter and the CVT .
Honda,Acura etc,ya can't go wrong,never disappointed
A 2 litre turbo and automatic transmission (along with nicer wheels) and this would be my dream SUV
Still can't beat the murano which is more upscale, more powerful and quicker. Even goes further on a tank of gas. Both run on a cvt. Dnd carry 5 people and weigh 2 tons. With 14ft long chasis.

I second this. Would love an answer!
Billy Jick it's a very sporty CVT and very quiet in operation when you're on Highway cruising mode low RPM for better fuel efficiency

Hi Steve. You said the new CR-V has more ground clearance. Do you have a number?
8.1" as opposed to 6"
This was really a great review and I couldn't agree more with your comment on the change in power train and transmission. 👍🏻
Another Excellent review as usual. The Honda CRV Touring ticks all the marks.
Thanks!
I loved this car when I drove it, except for pronounced road noise. Did you notice the problem with road noise?
Nice design.

I can't tell from the picture, are Homelink included in touring model.

Steve, I cannot wait for the new Civic derived Accord comes out, do you think this architecture can keep the Accord competitive?
Looks way better than the 4th gen.
I thought we would have many more twin clutch transmissions offered. I'm not yet a fan of CVT.
You guys in America seem to be quiet retro with regards to the CVT....it should be the only way forward this is because power is available AT ALL SPEEDS and that is very practical...i have a civic turbo and love the cvt....but for some strange reason, u all want a manual shifter....
I just wish they would offer this vehicle with standard transmission :(
no mention of the volume knob return?
Yeah...I should have. But now you did it for me.
Do the back seats recline?...
drchulo76 Yes
But wasn't the rav4 4 the best selling suv while the crv was behind it.?
Goodbye right side camera.
Lane Watch has been upgraded

Spoke too soon.
Billy Sou
We had a 2015 CRV (which got totalled). We loved that right side camera. Did they remove it? How has Lane Watch been upgraded? Thanks.
price is really good, as its needs to be for an personal transport
Rear seats drop down gracefully...ha lovely way for saying slowly. Lol
Ha!
TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes how do you like the premium 9 speaker sound system quality-wise can you find out who manufactures the sound system is it Harman Kardon?

Modern Steel
looks like Lunar silver metallic
The body styling---OK, but I hate the wheels. Wheels are major....
excellent review as always. makes those millenial reviewers look like amateurs
Thanks, Louis! Appreciate that comment.
How long does it last
Thank, Steve.
Do a review of the 2016 Ford Everest
is the rear wheel use tradional rear differential or the electronic motor

Looks muscular i like it.
Impressive! However I will keep my 2014 with real gears and a screaming 2.4L until it wants to retire.
Is there a CD player in the new 2017CRV?
Nope. It's an 8-track.
No.
Hey, I still like having a CD player in my car! Could be a deal breaker for me.
Ronna Baron almost all car manufactures don't offer cd player anymore.
lmao
the back looks a bit like the new volvo :)
mompfredXL agreed
This means Subaru Forester its rival, should build the all new and powerful 1, i will wait til 2018.
Perfect 😍💯
does the 9 speaker sound system improve
Jhun Aquino yes most definitely, less distortion at high volume. it's a more balance sound when equalized.
the engine of CRV better 2.4 2014 or 1.5 2017?
the 1.5t by far. Drove the 2017 Cr-V Touring the other day and the drive is fantastic, blows the 16 out of the water in all aspects.
okey thanks

joewillgo it does in canada
My next car
No CD player? Deal breaker for me. I'll keep my 2015

it's okay

This will never touch the 2003 crv geared to a 5 speed manual with the k20 engine.
Thats what I've got. And I'll contest that mine has better room in the back than this. My seats fold up better than those ones making for more boot space.
CVT and a small engine. I'll look elsewhere.
Wait, what? 1.5 liter for 1600 kg? What resource will have this engine, warranty + 1 km? Rip Cr-v.
Restaurants Florentino, Italy
too busy. liked the previous model

Nice clean interior but the exterior is a hot mess, especially that double-chinned front end..
the all new crv. same like brv

Very good car but CVT is shit and will not last longer

Honda brv
It's STILL homely. 2017 Hyundai Tucson with turbo and DCT blows the ugly Honda away. The Tucson is SO much more attractive than this ugly grocery getter.
