    I'm sorry, but this video seems EXTREMELY misleading without even mentioned the RTMP streaming capabilities even once. You can wirelessly stream and there are many videos that show this feature without any issues. There are many streamers who use GoPros without any issues.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  2 роки тому +7

      Did you watch the whole video? Because I mentioned the RTMP streaming video and even left the RTMP streaming loading process on the screen a *long* time to make a point

    • @usernamehandle
      @usernamehandle 2 роки тому +13

      @@aaronpk Are you serious? I'm saying that you don't mention that RTMP can work for this same use-case, a multi-cam live-streaming scenario. As long as you have it set up in OBS, it doesn't matter if your using the ATEM or YoloBox-just use the RTMP connection in OBS, and there's your extra camera. If you are only talking about the specific use case of mobile, IRL, multi-cam streams without a computer, I guess it'd make sense. But then another complaint is that it doesn't look good in a studio environment. I don't think you briefly showing a loading screen makes this video any less misleading. Especially when most of your issues you solve by the end of the video! Yes, I watched all the way through. But whatever gets you clicks. I just think people should know that it's totally possible to do multi-cam streaming with this.

      I don't know man, I think I fairly represented the situation I was trying to solve for and describe why it doesn't do that. The rest of the comments seem to agree with me too. If it works well for you then that's great!

    I use a GoPro 7 Black as an "escape" camera during my streams (youth basketball). I have an Atem mini (base model) with 2-3 mirrorless camera and that GoPro. The GoPro gives a wide angle total during the game or while I have to adjust something with the other cameras. Not perfect but works fine.

    Hi all, would just like to add from the experience I've made with GoPro Hero 5 Black cameras. I think they really work very well in a livestream setup. I've been livestreaming outdoor softball games for several years now and the Hero 5 is somehow really a work horse for me. Bought the ones I have used, some can't write to the SD card, some have been used very intensely, but all provide a 1080p60 video feed for a Atem Mini Extreme. Cooking the brightest sun at about +30° C, they just work. The one GoPro Hero 7 black I have is on the other hand much more unreliable. Constantly turns off, overheats much faster and so on. Of course, could be that one camera, who knows.

  • @klubstompers

    Im using usb-c from gopro Hero 9 black to pc or laptop, and i have no menu overlay. 1080p 60fps, no external battery, no capture card needed. 133 degree wide angle, and it's excellent in low light too. There is a delay with hypersmooth turned on and a slight delay with it off, but in obs you simply delay your audio to match the video. If you want to switch cameras, you set up multiple scenes in obs, and just switch them in obs, or set up the automatic scene switcher in obs, or route it to a midi device if you want to switch manually with hardware. Install the gopro webcam software on your PC. Start your PC and the camera turns on with all your settings loaded, start OBS and your good to go. You don't ever have to touch your gopro after you set it up. Also with the gopro webcam software you can change camera settings from your PC, or you can install the software on your phone/tablet and use that to change camera settings via bluetooth.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  10 місяців тому +1

      The webcam mode is the only way this makes sense to use it. But that means you're stuck using it only with solutions that can take a webcam input, not with larger hardware video switchers like the ATEM.

    I use a GoPro Hero 10 for Livestreaming my musical performances and it is extremely frustrating. I too, have the media mod and did a whole series about building a small case where I could take a feed from my mixer and send it to the Media Mod audio in. Half the time the GoPro simply ignores the audio line in, even when I have it selected on the menu. "Pull the battery" is the solution I hear frequently, and that simply is not practical when I have the GoPro in a Media Mod with a cold shoe on top. Have you encountered anything like this? What's another option you would suggest for livestreaming?

  • @DarenLewis
    @DarenLewis 2 роки тому +3

    Agree, I got lucky when I started using my GoPro 7 for some local live-streaming of our USCG Aux District meetings with my ATEM Mini and Mini Pro ISO here in PDX. The Hero 7 is the crowd cam and works really well on a high light stand while using a couple other cameras for the details. I roll with a 10 for underway action cam work (I think my first was an HD Hero), with a few exceptions most of my good storytelling still comes out of the succession of DSLRs to mirrorless I've carried. As you note, where the GoPros shine is as action cameras. I've gotten a couple of minutes of footage I'd have gotten no other way because I had the camera mounted, could push the start button, and could go to work in my non-photographer/videographer role. Those were a few stories that mattered and, in my situation, justified the cost of the GoPro... but a new one only every 4-5 years.

    I've been using a couple of GoPro's (6's and a 7) for replay angles and for the beauty shot of the entire arena, but yeah, they're not "real" cameras... The good things about them are the external power ability (I can easily power both the GoPro and an HDMI to SDI converter for a whole day on a 15 000 mAh powerbank), and the sturdiness (when you put it on top of the net post in a volleyball game, you don't want it to break as soon as it gets hit by a volleyball). But I'm still looking for a better solution with better indoor image quality.

    Used the GoPros for some IRL bike livestreaming before. Agreed the 7 is is much nicer, but it has some audio drift issues. The menu overlays on the 9/10 and I assume 11, are annoying. If you don't have a SD card in the camera you wont get stuck on the playback screen. Then its just a quick 4 presses on the power button and 1 on the record to clear the overlay and get a clean output.

    Here's a question - I am on the board for a very small academic conference in my region. We've gotten a small grant to start to focus more on recording and streaming the annual conferences. The conference moves around so portability is a must, and there are some events and things at the conference that I may want to record or stream but discretely - that is, without an entire large tripod setup - and the compactness of the GP is appealing. I would say that in the case of our conference people care more about the audio than the video, so I am not too fussed about getting the best audio, and we don't have the money to hire professionals. Sometimes the papers given at the conference are at night or in halls not specially lit for speakers. Would the GoPro possibly be a good option for this? I used my Canon M50 this past year and it just couldn't deal with the light and came out looking poorly.

Not only is the swiping extremely annoying, it also has some weird delay and it randomly doesn't work so you can't just do it my muscle memory when you have no monitor :D it's a truly grotesque experience!

    I think it's a great option for an Action Camera AND a streaming camera. Otherwise - you have to buy two cameras. Thanks for the GoPro Labs feature - this may solve my issue where the HERO10 is only outputting 480p with the Media Mod while recording. Keen to see a GoPro Labs video!

    I wish I would have seen this video a day and a half ago !!! I livestream weddings, purchased two GoPros and have been TERRIBLY FRUSTRATED at the inconvenience; not to mention I cannot figure out how to get the hdmi output to work while recording on the gopro10... when I tap to record, the screen goes to black. I can only view my live hdmi output on my ATEM mini extreme when NOT recording... which pretty much ruins half of the purpose I purchased it for... more multi camera angle shots to edit footage, especially just b-roll cuts, to. Anyone have a workaround on the hdmi live view not working while the unit is recording???

Do you have recommendation for a cheap and simple (but mostly cheap) camera I could use for this? They also recommended an AJA Helo encoder and switcher... but all I want us to be able to stream two cameras and have some simple intro/outros, and as such I was planning on using OBS. I use the hero 5 with a combination of other cameras for baseball live streams, and it is my go to camera for behind the plate since it is so rugged and can take a foul ball that other cameras wouldn't be able to handle. I completely ditched the 8, due to clean HDMI issues. Imagine mounting it 50 feet away from your Atem only to have to get the clean hdmi working. Horrible.
    One comment, a major fail with gopro live streaming via their app is the field of view. You can't adjust the field of view at all on a live stream, which makes it useless.
    GoPro doesn't care about live streaming, and it shows. They are interested in recorded action footage only.

      There isn't even an HDMI port in the DJI Action cameras, so it's not really an option. You'd have to use the RTMP streaming option to push to a local device like the Magewell Pro Convert, but then you'll be dealing with the significant RTMP delay too.

    I use my action cams on dozens of shoots annually, some post-edited, some live streamed. Most of my work is stage productions, and putting a few of these on the downstage lip can gather *stunning* images... the small form-factor is definitely wanted because of camera placement, and wide FOV (even in linear/dewarp mode) helps increase useable moments.
    For post-edits, my absolute fav go-to for those front-and-center shots is the original Osmo Action -- *far* more reliable than any GoPro I've owned -- never locks up or shuts down, beautiful images, very responsive controls and way more reliable WiFi connections than GoPro.
    For live streams -- sadly OA has no HDMI option so we DO use our GoPros which have HDMI out.
    Hero 3 Black -- worked fine (ports are now broken, camera is useless)
    Hero 4 Silver -- worked fine
    Hero 5 Black -- works well.
    All GoPro models after Hero 5 have failed miserably in our tests, and I had to return them. I tried the Hero 6, 7 and 10. The 6 and 7 proved unreliable; they'd lock up and stop recording mid-recording sometimes (used with USB/AC power, ProTune and WiFi on). I loved the horizon leveling on the Hero 10 (makes setup way easier!) but for all the reasons you mentioned we ended up returning it. :(
    I'd love suggestions for a perfect tiny-cam to use for those epic front-and-center shots that can be used with live streams without breaking the bank.

      The way people cope with the heat when streaming using the Mediamod, is to run the GoPro without internal battery, powered of a USB powerbank with minimum 2A output on the port.
