This is honestly more than just etiquette and elegance. This is confidence building. Thank you so much for making this!
You are welcome
I'd love if you could teach how to dress up elegantly in different occasion. Thank you!

This is much needed !
Just keep your knees together and swing your legs out the door

0:56 standing - place both feet at hip width apart (to extend/open up body to appear confident)
2:20 more elegant/feminine stance - put two feet together, one foot behind another, ball of front foot touching middle of second foot, shift all the weight to back foot, tuck knees in
4:13 sitting - walk backwards without looking at chair to not break eye contact with person, sit down (use hands to feel chair), when sitting down imagine little kitten behind your back that you don't want to squish, use chair arms to make yourself near back of chair, if no chair arms sit in middle of chair
6:20 sitting posture - keep head high, chin parallel to ground, for men keep feet slightly apart grounded on the floor and no shaking of the legs, for women same way but keep your feet a bit closer together firmly on the ground
7:10 more elegant/feminine postures - duchess slant, Cambridge cross, Sussex sit
7:44 duchess slant - knees together, feet together, incline them to one side or the other
8:03 cambridge cross - knees together, cross them at ankle but keep feet on ground
8:27 sussex - cross your legs and then slant them to a side
9:16 how to pick up dropped items - bend not from your back, bend on your knees (as if sitting down)

I’m really enjoying your channel on proper etiquette when it seems like a lost art these days. Would you please consider making a video on how to graciously respond to nosey questions? I find that many people these days are too forward in their comments or questions and I would appreciate any tips on how to handle this in a sophisticated manner. Many Thanks for all your dedicated work!
Nadia Marzuke thank you! Well noted 😉
I'm not sure how sophisticated this is, but my guess would be just don't answer! Lol. Sometimes just smile at people, change subject, or politely say I'm uncomfortable answering. Nobody can make you say or share anything you don't want to.

I'll never be a proper lady but I do admire the women who put time and creativity into being elegant. We need all kinds of women in the world 💖
You are right: we need all kinds of woman. When I was young, a friend told me later laughing, he was more impressed by me than by any other, because I was sitting like John Wayne at the barstool. 😆 It's the result of driving huge motorbikes, but I am only Size XS.
I could act like a lady, but I don't like, that's not me. A schoolmate told me decades later, I have a heart of gold, nerves of steel and a spine of steel.
I never knew I've been elegant my whole life...WOW!
What to do with hands while just standing and not doing anything, not even talking.
Dixi Sinha just keep by your sides or hold your clutch or a drink in case you feel you need to hold on to something.
I usually touch my hair and my bag
@@LaLaLaLaLifeFabyu touching hair might make you look like you are flirting or nervous. Best to keep your hands busy with the clutch or perhaps a drink in one hand.
You could lightly fold/rest your hands into eachother, just above belly button height. Your shoulders will stay low and back easily and it helps you stand straight because it centers your balance.
@Habiba Nazirova :D
I found picking up the dropped items not only conducive to maintaining etiquette but more importantly maintaining good spine health! ❤️
It is when i started watching anna bey and jamila, i changed my aesthetic to elegance.

Omg, yeah... I do really like the both of them.
And I don't feel bad being formal.
Crossing feet. Best for A lady 😊
I like both of them but I prefer Anna Bey because she has a sense of humor in her videos, and she has an energetic, vibrant vibe that's quite fresh and youthful. Jamila is more classic and quiet like in 80's time

Most of the time, if you say," No thank you" or, for a social engagement, say" I am have a previous engagement (even if it is to stay home and wash your hair), but thank you for thinking of me." For dates, just use the same statement. Be polite, thank them, and let it go.

Massive thanks Ms.Jamila.
I am so grateful to have found your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world.🙏🏼😊

This is the best etiquette video I've seen I actually don't feel judged or uncomfortable by it like others. Thank you
Thank you 🙏🏻
Your way of talking is so smooth and elegant... thanks for the effort!
Thank you!
I clicked on this mostly to amuse myself since I’m physically disabled (specifically having a condition that affects the joints and their ability to hyperextend) and assumed that there’d be nothing for me here but actually some of the sitting positions might work well for me when sitting straight causes me hip problems and anything that helps me to get up easier is good in my book.
I’m in a chair too, the slant takes stress off of one of your hips and give a little stretch too. Takes stress off the lower back as well.
Omg she speaks so softly her voice is soooo satisfying!
as a clumsy person, i'm going to start pick up the drop item elegantly
I didn't wake up this morning thinking I would end up subscribing to an etiquette channel...
...and yet here I am, and here I have.
Even the way she speaks is elegant...so soothing!
Thank you Jamilla. Request- A video on how to accept compliments and how to reject offers

You are the best teacher when it comes to etiquette
Thank you!
Glad you are addressing this. Young people are not learning deportment and table manners anymore. 1:34
I just love how she talks. So calm
Because of this, I have confirmed that some countries are still living, or let's say there is a group that still respects etiquette and the previous era, such as the Victorian era. I am really surprised and really happy, seriously 👍
I definitely like the Ducchess slant. It just feel more secure and quickly done for when you’re wearing a skirt or dress. Love your channel, Jamila. I’m bingeing on all of the videos today. ❤️
A topic I'd like to hear more about is how to excuse yourself from a party politely. Or how to respond when others are being rude in a formal setting
Yes great suggestion!
Had a mini heart attack when she dropped the item because it was such a stark sound in comparison to her gentle voice
She should have used a handkerchief, rather than marring that beautiful floor.
Heyyy!! I am a teenager from India n i love watching your videos I've changed a lot of things after ur guidings
I'm here 4 days before my prom and these videos are really gonna help me out😊

that vidoe made me feel like I am in a princess school. And she is the queen.
Why in normal school we walk there is no lesson like elegant lady? School should learn young girls how to be elegant lady. I would love to have these lessons and finally I would had a reason to like school.
@@jessicamakitrzprincessofbe2719 actually its better if we find these stuff on youtube not in school .If this would be a lesson in school it would be weird like ladies should learn how to be elegant. They shouldn't be rude or anything other than elegant. But if u are a person who wants to learn more about being more elegant then you can search and find how so you be different from others :)

How about etiquette on wearing perfume? I'd love to hear what you have to say about that!
@mi su I come from a place where we love our perfumes and we use loads of them, the stronger the perfume the more compliments you will get, people know I am here from my perfume. Then I moved a country where perfumes are not allowed in public places and all offices, I don't understand why people here are sensitive to perfumes, even when I go shopping I can't find anything strong as we have back there. I miss being able yo use perfumes more freely, but I am so curious to know the science behind people being more sensitive in some parts of the world
@@shireengool It is more the other way around. Because people use a lot of perfume, they get desensitized for it. So they don't perceive the smell as strong. While people who don't use it often, can get a headache. Too much perfume can be seen sometimes as flamboyant or distracting, so it is not recommended (but not prohibited as far as I know). I know in some countries they might prohibit it because of cultural/religious reasons. A strong smell is then too flashy (for a woman).

Very rare content, this is something that we not notice and practice in everyday life, but I learned much from this video. Thank you Jamila. And you are looking beautiful.
It brought a smile to my face when I saw how to pick up an item correctly, my boyfriend from middle school told me never to pick up an item bending my back because boys would stare at my butt haha he always picked things for me when I dropped something but also constantly reminded me how I should do it when I had to, how cute the right way is the way he told me and how I've been doing it since then

I’m pretty short and sometimes when I’m wearing flats I can’t put my feet flat on the ground, what should I do in this case?
Also, a video suggestion: Hosting a Dinner Party
im pretty short too, but body anatomy wont stop you from keeping your feet flat
@@hwahwa3347 Perhaps they meant that they can't completely touch the ground when sitting. For example, when I sit, if I were to have my feet flat, they would be dangling in the air.
@@ruiyang9098 I'm short and have this same problem too! would really love to know the answer to this >.< Chair height doesn't always take short people into account
Don't swing them back and forth and don't spent the evening kicking the chair with your heels. Just use the postures she suggested and forget that your feet wont touch the ground.
I'm short also so my trick is to keep the front of my foot or toes touching the ground with my ankles crossed and legs slanted. If my knees are tilted to the left my left ankle is behind my right, if I tilt to the right then my right ankle goes behind the left. Only one foot will touch the ground. Another thing I do is to sit a bit more forward in the chair so my feet have a better chance of being flat on the ground. Hope this helps.

The combined sitting posture definitely elongates the legs, it creates an illusion for my eyes that looks more so like the legs aren’t attached to the body. Such an interesting look… I can imagine it is comfortable.
It would be wonderful if you could do a couple on sitting and picking things up for short women. I'm under 5' tall and it is a little hard to sit like that when your feet don't touch the floor!
please speak about hairdressing with each outfit
my issue with short dresses is that the only way nothing can be seen through is by crossing your legs from the thighs. If I put my knees together, that covers nothing because I'm really underweight. Its no issue if what Im wearing is knee length. If it's shorter, not possible. Anyone with the same issue?
Perhaps a looser skirt or dress, so the fabric lays between you thighs.
If you sit with your hands on your lap if may push the fabric down
@Angela Sanders hilarious since I’m a hijabi and I’m asking for girl only gatherings at home.
I always wear some kind of shorts underneath (in the same color), I feel so much safer with them on, it sometimes prevents the dress from slipping up but even when something slips up people still can‘t see anything
maybe put knees together, but on sort of diagonal?

I like the sit and slant. A lot. And the slant.
I think you were the meaning of perfect
I like elegance, that's for sure. And I like beauty. But watching all these and reading the comments where people ask even questions like how to elegantly say no etc. I'm like where is the authenticity? Where is the genuineness in all these? It feels like acting all the way through. Furthermore I'd love to also see passion in people's demeanour and behaviour, not only beauty and elegance. If they get excited or angry or nervous, I'd like to also see that. After all, we are not in his life to aesthetically please anyone or everyone. Thanks for feminism for the realisation of it.
Yes it feels a little too made up and non genuine. Personally I liked Alexandriasgirlytalks video on elegance felt more real.
gabircik Yeah I agree.
But on the other hand this is still required in some parts of the society, or at some jobs. And in the end we as humans copy eachother, that's how we learn. Even if we think some style or expression is our own, chance is big we have subconsciously copied it. So it's just how you look at it.
Some of us just like to feel princess-y~ makes me feel like a disney princess uwu
@gabircik That's exactly why I feel conflicted.
I appreciate elegance, beauty and femininity and I will surely follow some of the advice, still by watching this I'm also left wondering if every rule of etiquette is made to appeal to the larger public.
I feel like it's too much implied and encouraged to numb and hide your true emotions as feeling any anxiety, frustration or concern is "unlady like" and unmannerly while appearing confident it's all that matters.
More often than not, I find myself looking up to people who radiate confidence by just genuinely being their "perfectly imperfect" selves.
I try to be elegant every day then the reality of mortgage and bills hit me so i end up swearing instead of purring..
I love the cross-slant way of sitting! Thanks for tips😍

Walking elegant not only feels confident. It also feels good and so sweet💖. I love it.
