Absolutely love this outlook, 100 subscribers IS huge, it's almost the size of a decent cinema/theatre. I'm working on a video that has a similar theme.

For whatever reason the YT algo is recommending me channels like yours. I really like the idea of recording music in your car, its so raw, which I really appreciate! I'm more of a producer I suppose, I don't like my voice and all that lol, but I do write original music.
One of my biggest musical influences is Kurt Cobain, and coming to the end of his life he had all these acoustic demos recorded and there's something about that rawness of that sound that really emphasized what I loved about his music... authenticity
But what I would really like to try is stuff like what you do. Just share my music and my thoughts with the world, but I'm so damn self conscious lol so I really respect what you're doing.
Congrats on the 100 subs :)
P.S: What kind of acoustic bass is that? I have one by Denver that looks very similar but I don't think it's necessarily the same one

Is that you singing in your most recent video? If so, you’ve got a great voice! And looks like you’re killing it with your channel. Cool stuff.

Thanks man! I’m all about the rawness. I’m not really invested in Nirvana or Kurt Cobain personally - the inspiration for my stuff comes from other 90s acts like Ween and Guided by Voices - but whenever people in real life talk to me about my recorded music I always get the Kurt Cobain comparison. And that’s cool! I understand why even if I don’t think my stuff sounds anything like his. I think for a lot of people Kurt Cobain’s solo stuff is the only super lo-fi music they’ve heard so it’s all they’ve got to compare it to.
Anyways, my point is that there’s absolutely a market and appeal for that kind of stuff. I don’t have a great singing voice either, nor am I particularly skilled with the guitar. Hence why I cover it all up on my recordings with layers and layers of effects, but it’s also an aesthetic choice. You just make do with what you have, ya know? I don’t even really consider myself a singer as my passion is songwriting, but no one else is going to sing my songs so either I do or no one hears them. The world is ready to hear your voice, you’ve just got to get it recorded.
(Also the bass is a countryman, couldn’t tell you more than that. I’m not a gear guy. It was a cheap thing - an impulse buy. I’m left handed so there’s never anything for me when I walk into guitar shops. I’d never seen a left handed acoustic bass when I saw it hanging on the wall of a local guitar shop, so I just had to pick it up)

My old videos were cringe and a lot of them are now private or deleted, but they're still important steps for me.

I used to try to learn how to record music but never really learned. The thing that has stuck with me is an interest in writing music, thought I’m far from industrious at it. I’ve recently started performing my songs just with my iPhone camera and posting them. I keep thinking I should learn how to connect a mic to my phone and process the audio but so far I just can’t get motivated to do that. It does feel good though having a hundred or so people listen to my songs, even if I don’t really get feedback from any of them. That’s my next goal; to get someone to express an opinion about the songs. It’s strange how important our own things are to us and how hard we have to try to get other humans to look at those things and say something about them. It reminds me of how my kids are constantly saying “daddy look!” and I look up to see them holding a toy on another toy like it’s riding it or something and I say “oh, yep.” And then they move on, but if I don’t respond they will keep saying it forever until I look. I guess we never really lose that.

In December of last year I put out my first EP. I have no idea how I made it. I just remember deciding that I was going to do it and then for the next few months I struggled. I left every recording session frustrated and confused until one day it was done. Now I’m ready to start recording again and I feel like I’m starting from scratch. I find the recording of music to be a mystifying process and I’m not sure if I’ll ever really get it, but evidently I did it so I can do it again.
Self indulgent anecdote aside, the only thing you need to start recording music is songs and you’ve got them. If you just trust your ear, you’ll find your way. Your recordings will probably sound terrible for a while - mine still do - but see each project through to the end and you’ll learn something every time.
Apologies for all the unsolicited advice, it’s just that if I’d known this stuff earlier I’m sure I would’ve started recording years ago.
As for getting feedback on your songs, I’ll check em out when I get the chance.
      Good luck to you man
