  • With over two dozen books and international sales passing 250 million, Jeffrey Archer is a publishing and cultural phenomenon. Former Deputy Chairman of England’s Conservative Party, he served five years in the House of Commons, fourteen years in the House of Lords and two in Her Majesty’s prisons.
In Australia to promote his latest book Only Time Will Tell, Archer is joined in conversation by Jennifer Byrne. In his hour-long appearance, he discusses his resilience and the lessons he learned in jail, as well as his relationship with the media and the challenge of having his personal history portrayed and discussed in an even, proportionate manner.
The divisive bestseller also talks about his first love − politics − and his respect for Margaret Thatcher, whom he describes as one of three women who have profoundly affected and influenced him.
Describing himself as “an old fashioned storyteller”, he details what he sees as the difference between being a writer and a storyteller, and explains why he thinks e-books are terrible: even if they may be financially rewarding for writers.

Well those two certainly didn't get on. I think Jeffrey was miffed by the interviewer's continual poking around the prison episode (about 30 minutes was spent on that) when he wanted to talk about his books. However he had some valuable points to make about it which were worthwhile.
He was a bit rude towards her at the end, hogging the ending and not handing back to her properly. I guess that was his payback. Not a minute more - and not a minute less!
But other than that, a very interesting interview session.

Such a highly successful author..why would you want to mention that he was a prisoner in the introduction..highly distasteful...no wonder the whole thing went downhill..

I think they are flirting with each other in the beginning, and then they get irritated at each other.

He grew up wanting to control the narrative of his life. He's still doing it. Nice try Jennifer.

He keeps trying to take over the entire event. The interviewer does a good job in holding the reins on the insidious little man. He has no contrition whatsoever for his misdemeanours.

This guy is the personification of arrogance (Oxford university seems to do that to people).

He can't blame people for doubting him so much when he fantasies so much
