Those who want to hear a truly outstanding performance of this work should seek out the CD set released on the French label Erol of a live concert from June 2004. The recording, made in the Church of the Trinity of Paris, involves 7 (!) choirs, 2 orchestras, a fine-sounding organ and a superb soprano (Danielle Streiff) in the title role. This massive undertaking, led by Jean-Pierre Lore, blows competing versions out of the water, and you won't believe this absolutely impassioned reading. The audience is only heard with the final applause; the label has also released excellent recordings of Marie-Magdeleine, Eve, and the oratorio Le Terre Promise.
