@Joakim von Anka Yes, I would agree that they're "good" for shareholders in the short term. But they're like littering which "benefits" the culprit in the short term but costs everyone else. Overall, I feel that stock buybacks are harmful to the companies in the long term and ultimately harmful to valuations of those companies because this takes cash away from productive uses, including provision of financial security, within the company doing the buybacks. As a shareholder, I'm much rather have my investment hold its cash and NOT distribute it to shareholders. The market should ultimately price this in anyway. Moreover, buying and selling stocks -even their own stocks, is generally not in the company's area of expertise. The one time it might make sense is *maybe* to buy stocks in times of weakness and sell them to raise cash in times of strength, and either deploy that cash for expansion, when there is business, or to a larder to tide them over lean times. And to buy stock ONLY from a very strong balance sheet and when overflowing with cash. As a shareholder, I would generally vote against stock buybacks.

People's behavior and habit doesn't change Jimmy. If they never have a habit to save, it won't change. Furthermore, people spend in proportion to what they make. The more they make the more they spend. Money doesn't solve the problem for people, people solve people's issues.
When I made $6/hr i saved $1, when I made $10/hr I saved $2, I now saved over 30% of my income. You get the point. This interview was presented back in March 2020... it's now mid July... so much of what he talked about has come true, if not even worse then he suggested. This whole mess was caused by the Greed of Banks, by Central Banks, and the few 1% people and special firms first inline at the money window. And who suffers the very people that have nothing, and are going to get even less if that's even possible. Remember, " If someone (The Banks) gets something (Print money out of thin air) for nothing... then someone got nothing (Fiat money) for something (your labour or productivity)". Better start stocking up on food this is not over!
All these institutions have led humanity to the brink of ruin. It is beyond disheartening, that even as ‘we’ stand on the precipice, so many are groveling to these institutions. If after this chapter, most people still trust and/or depend on these institutions and the evil system they help maintain, humanity is done. The gap between rich and poor can’t grow much more before upheaval starts...and ultimately fails. A HARD collapse of the global financial system is the best option for humanity. Yes, it’d still be terrible, but at least we’d have a chance of survival...
USD 1000 for stimulation, i.e increasing purchasing power, seems great. But the big question is whether people will spend it or save it under their beds out of fear!
In Sweden (and in most of Europe) the Central Bank has allocated liquidity to the banks in exchange for suspending mortgage payments. Maybe you guys should try something like that. The state is also financing pay check for permitted workers in some case. Problem is the people working in the gig economy and culture workers. In the worst case, we have a minimum guaranteed income for destitute people, financed by the state. Not much, but enough I think to survive a few months, especially if mortgage and insurances are waived for a time. Swedish state debt is very low (below 30% of GDP) so we should be able to absorb that. I am sure your government will eventually take similar measures. These are exceptional times.

$1k? Pulling that number right out of your @$$. In nowhere is that enough, and in some places it's not enough to pay the lowest rent. It won't solve the problem. Freeze every loan in place and defer payments+interest, including rental payments. Permit utility usage and forgive it. Mobilize national guard to distribute essential supplies and maintain order. Set clear restart benchmarks that trigger a grace period, allowing people to get set for a restart. Crank it up again. If they treat this like a normal recession or depression, they're going to screw us. This isn't either of those. It's its own category orders of magnitude worse. Throwing fake money at it won't work at all.
Deferred rental payments is not a good idea unless both RE Taxes, insurance and mortgage payments are suspended. Otherwise landlords will lose their properties to the banks or auctioned out from underneath them by city/county. Besides there are substantial maintenance/repair expenses to consider as well.

I suspect stock buybacks are done to benefit "executives" of the companies. Nothing else makes sense.
Yes. An executive's salary is based on stock price. That's where the last tax cut went. Not to the workers as touted, to buy backs.
