I feel the issue is the acceleration. The speed at which you can dive, get back up, and resume sprinting is the most clear example of this to me so far, rather than the zigzagging.

I really think the Devs have made their own work, their reception in the community and all our gameplay experience (felt or in fact), worst by this.

Ive been having my best games sniping with this new speed. I was playing Kharkov 2 days ago, posted up in the 2nd floor of a barn and got 49 kills at between 150m and 270m the best ive ever done.
As a game developer I can almost guarantee they stopped doing PTE because they DON'T want to hear or use our player feedback. If the team was planning on making their own changes regardless of the opinions of the players they definitely wouldn't want a bunch of forums posts and UA-cam videos circulating the fanbase describing changes they wanted from PTEs that would then just be completely ignored. It's a way to muffle the voice of the community and let them put in their own ideas of what the game should be. My biggest fear is they start sliding down the War Thunder route and actively become antagonistic to the players.

But for 50v50v warfare it doesnt work. The dolphin dive to getting back up so quick is just weird
Agree, the dolphin dive is ridiculous. People abuse it way too much. Yes, we should have had a smooth animation like that to begin with, but there is no penalty or a huge cool down limit for it to be used, leading to people glitching the game pretty much
Great testing. I hope there will be some middle ground… I don’t like the faster sprint speed, I think it’ll give players loads of possibilities to vault to different spaces and gameplay will suffer from this, because dodging bullets might become meta
I personally dislike the new movement speeds a great deal. The fact they didn't include I explicitly in the patch notes indicates to me that T17 knew this wouldn't be a popular decision, or at least knew it would be divisive, but they shoe-horned it in unchallenged. The patch note at 2:23, where Blackmatter discusses the rationale for the pre-U14 sprint speed was perfect - the slower speed was a best of both worlds, reduces zigzagging, rewards good positioning to start contacts, and rewards well-timed movement because its easier to be punished for being out of position or in the open. The new speeds have undermined the importance of well-timed manoeuvres and choosing a good position to start engagements or move across the map. Being caught in the open is no longer as much of a problem when you move so much faster. You can easily escape punishment (especially by bolt action rifle fire) for being so far out of cover simply because of how easy it is now to wholesale zig-zag and dodge bullets entirely. As I say, you notice this much more when shooting at someone with a bolt action. They change direction ridiculously fast with no penalties. This was rarely a feasible tactic before U14, when directional changes couldn't be so quick. It's rewarding the so-called "mosquito" movement and erratic, unplanned strafing that Blackmatter was keen to keep out of this game. I sincerely hope that this isn't the start of T17 dismantling more of Blackmatter's key design philosophies for the game - reeks of casualisation and it's to the detriment of the player base, in my opinion. The removal of PTE and the non-inclusion in patch notes for changes like these don't inspire confidence that they won't go further.
@CANT EVER SLEEP it's honestly something that we can get used to, and something tells me we will have to, but that doesn't mean the community shouldn't have been consulted about the change. I understand both arguments - old speed was a little tedious sometimes, but to me didn't require a 15% (though in practice closer to 25%) increase. It's way too much. 5% on both standing and crouching sprint would've alleviated complaints of slow movement, and maintained the core gameplay foundation of more considered, careful manoeuvre. I will gladly accept a 5 to 7.5% increase if we must have one. But as it stands, the change seems way too much, fixing a problem that didn't really exist. The players who hated "the walking simulator" either left long ago or had become perfectly accustomed to/contented with the U8 speeds, for the most part. This change in U14 was mostly unnecessary. Whether I'm right is irrespective, of course, both arguments are correct in their own ways. My opinion is shared by many in the community.
I would fine with the original if most of the maps weren’t so open. Example purple heart lane, I understand that’s what it looked like in real life but it’s not fun especially when leadership and armour suck. It’s tiring to be run and die over and over again. Nice video, Gebatron! Just a quick note that changing from 4m/s to 5 is actually a 25% increase in speed. I'm not sure where T17 got 15% from, and whether that was a mistake in implementation or incorrectly written in the change log.
@TROLL You're incorrect. Test it yourself. It takes 41 seconds to run 200 meters (starting at a sprint). That's 205 seconds to run a km, or 17.5 km/h. The previous speed was 14 km/h. 14 *1.25 = 17.5 --> 25% speed increase.
TL;DR U14 is 15% faster than U7, and 23% faster than U8-13.5 I can tell you exactly where the 15% would likely have came from; 517.5/1.15 = 450.0 Where 517.5 is the new speed quoted on the patch notes in cm/s Just a coincidence that this is 15% higher than the 4.5m/s (pre U8) demonstrated here? From tests I did a while back I got 4m/s but I definitely feel the new sprint speed is way to fast, at least for not having any mechanic for becoming winded
For me the sprint is way better now, this game is a running simulator in open fields lol An alternative way is addig two sprints mode: The regular one (could even keep the speed they had before, with no stamina) And an adrenaline speed, with stamina, where you run for some time and after you are tired and have to walk, wait sometime so you can regular run or adrenaline run. Dont make it super faster, but faster than the regular one (this would be good for crossing some open areas or evading an ambush). This is the same concept of COD's Tactical Sprint, but in a realistic form. Remember we are playing a war game, where adrenaline boost is a huge factor for soldiers
I don't mind the sprint speed as i play mostly Support, but, when i don't have to drop supplies for a garry, a repair station, an AT gun or a personel node... when i'm shooting?, it's annoying because i was used to lead the shots an X ammount and now after 4 years of that, i have to re-learn every small arm BC, other than that... i don't mind that much the speed incrase, a 5% less would be better imo, i never seen anyone with between 20 to 35kg of gear and ammo on top running that fast but.. "ok..", this isn't the ArmA3 or the VBS4, still too much imo but it doesn't break the game or anything like that, it's just a signigicant change imo.
@@RedactedBrainwaves Idk about Reforger but Arma 3 has stamina and you can only sprint for so long. Also last I checked it was like 11mph for sprinting. It's slightly more than that in HLL for your sustained normal jogging / running speed. That seems a bit much to me personally. It feels a just a bit too fast for my taste.
The sprint speed is to fast, it broke to many thinks like tank gameplay and warfare mode. You are now same fast as tanks, and now every one use zig zag move and only rush in warfare mode.
Im on console and can attest, the amount of squads you see rushing across open ground (which is even more bullshit when you see them, and open fire, and watch 20 soldiers start zigzagging), rushing defensive positions. Why be tactical when you and your homies can rush the enemy and spray with all smgs? These devs are already Call of Duty-ing this game. Its atrocious now. Losing sight of how it was supposed to be intended.
This is another good comparison video. There have also been comparisons to other similar mil sim type games (Squad, Post Scriptum, Sandstorm) and HLL is still the slowest, however the others do have stamina factors of one form or another. There is also a comparison against the likes of CoD, MW etc, and HLL is a lot slower. All up, I don't have a problem with the increase in speed. The general mobility in this updates feels smoother overall, and the speed is part of it. Perhaps there should be some penalty for load out, and a small random factor simply because people don't all run at the same speed, but I don't see this change as being detrimental or "gamifying" on it's own. And yes, bring back the PTE. It might have avoided the buggy 13.5 patch.
I would agree that whoever was filling in the values basically set it to a nice even number like 4.5 or 5m/s. Unless there's some formulas or functions or conversion factors that are more in depth, it's always worth finding the nearest 'nominal' round numbers when a human has to enter one in.
They also need to improve their running animations. A soldier with a rifle running wouldn't certainly go like this. Old Red Orchestra 2 had better running animations.
To be honest, I really don't want people to be faster. This game is about approaching the objectives cautiously, not gun and run, contrary to popular belief by players who keep sprinting every inch of terrain without slowing down for one second to plan their next course of action. This change feels unecessary, and I'm worried that Team 17 is taking the first steps toward making the game more like Call of Duty and Battlefield. I can only hope that I'm just being paranoid.
Running was way too slow man, and in a game where its all open field and no means of transportation. Speed is now way better, and its is nowhere near COD, BF... and its even slower than Arma 3, PS and Squad's running speed. You guys complain about everything. Yes you are paranoid.
honestly people should be complaining there isn't a stamina meter. If people want to be pedantic about the running speed, we should be complaining why we're running across a map without any consequence like super heroes.
@@GianWarGasm what do you mean by no means of transportation? There’s trucks, jeeps, half tracks, recon vehicles and a bunch of garrisons, OP and Airhead to spwn at.
tnx for the time and info put into your uploads man..slightly less run speed for me personally..i like the slower play style my self..good for chasing tanks with ya satchel :)..mabey speed up the vehicles the same..just my 2 cents..stay safe man
It still doesnt change the fact that game is a running simulator and mostly a waste of time for a little amount of enjoyable moments-. I played the game almost 200hrs and dropped it cuz of always running issue.
With 1200 hours in the game this update has me not too excited to play anymore. Possibly be looking for another game to waste time on. Yes it's too fast, for reasons that others have stated already. Yes the British guns are terrible, also stated already. Hit reg seems incredibly bad now, and I mean on non moving targets even at close range. Audio is very inconsistent. And my biggest complaint is that they haven't fixed the many major bugs that plague the game. Shameful.
wheni wanted show my dad this game. when he saw that player can run on hill the same way as on field he get furious started yeling at me that its so unrealistick game and was pissed of
Xp is broken in this game now . As an engineer literally creating nodes that last the whole game only to switch to rifleman or something so i can level up my class is now broken. I only did that on in the first place because i refuse to pay to level up faster and it took forever naturally anyway. Now, they have made it even slower to level up, wtf. They are catering to the casual/ noob community while trying to cater to the hardcore community, you cant do both
I do not like it. It caters to 20 somethings who are use to super speed in games, and disadvantages the 40-70 year old crowd. Lot of the 50+ choose this game since it is team based and slow, rather than reaction time centralized. I like playing with those guys.
It's not as bad as Battlefields or Cods. If the devs added something like slide cancelling, infinite run glitch (prior to MW2019), bunny hopping and all that BS. Then you know that's even worse than the new running speed.
It is too fast with the new update. Ok to be a bit faster but this is way overdoing it both for quality of play and being realistic. Humans don't run almost 11mph for long distances. That's a 5 and a half minute mile speed in combat over varied terrain. Not good
I hate the new speed. I don't play at all after trying it. ruins the core game, feel of heaviness being a real soldier with weight you are carrying, making you think. now the sound is off, you are not running, but floating faster, plus the zig zagging is now a thing. I only had one near perfect game I was playing for more than a year, it was HLL. now I don't have it lol. lets hope for the best.
I'm an actual soldier and i can tell you the sprint speed was way too slow beforehand. It was excruciatingly slow, the new speed might be like 25% too fast but i like it much better.
WW2 soldiers carried less weight than current day ones, especially how they are depicted in the game. They should be able to run faster than what they used to.
@@RedactedBrainwaves Well, to compare, to graduate the Marine Corps.' training school, soldiers must be able to run at 6.42mph (10.34km/h) while in full gear (most don't deviate much from this speed). New update running speed is: ≈17.70 kph without exhaustion! It never looks natural in a game even without zig-zagging. It would be bearable is this top speed would be reachable within let's say 2.5 seconds after the start and lasting up to 15 seconds with slow rebuild of stamina without an ability to zig-zag (day-z implemented a similar patch to prevent zig-zagging lowering speed of strafing runs significantly).
honestly this could be solved with a stamina meter. everyone is up in arms about this being fast and blah blah and never mentioning whether old or new speed, you still sprinting across the map without any consequences.
Did you miss the part in the video where it shows that it's U14 is a lot faster than pre-U8? So much fun seeing people zigzagging and worming all over the place and being able to run faster than heavy tanks at full speed... They broke so many things with this stupid change. Two patches in and T17 is already showing they are taking this game in a completely different direction, and I don't think it's a good one.
didnt notice the speed change cause im still pretty new only got about 59 or 60 hours in so far but i feel like they had it perfect its just fast enough so i dont feel like im in waste high water and its at a slow speed sure but way i saw it is it would give the illusion that the maps are bigger atleast right? idk love this game so far though and doubt that opinions gonna change lol
I feel the issue is the acceleration. The speed at which you can dive, get back up, and resume sprinting is the most clear example of this to me so far, rather than the zigzagging.
Seems like bullet velocity is also a slight problem

@@RedactedBrainwaves Idk about Reforger but Arma 3 has stamina and you can only sprint for so long. Also last I checked it was like 11mph for sprinting. It's slightly more than that in HLL for your sustained normal jogging / running speed. That seems a bit much to me personally. It feels a just a bit too fast for my taste.
The sprint speed is to fast, it broke to many thinks like tank gameplay and warfare mode. You are now same fast as tanks, and now every one use zig zag move and only rush in warfare mode.
Tank gameplay was already broken, what are you on about
love the 5:19 transition *chefs kiss*
great work both
Im on console and can attest, the amount of squads you see rushing across open ground (which is even more bullshit when you see them, and open fire, and watch 20 soldiers start zigzagging), rushing defensive positions. Why be tactical when you and your homies can rush the enemy and spray with all smgs? These devs are already Call of Duty-ing this game. Its atrocious now. Losing sight of how it was supposed to be intended.
Good data thank you
I'm 1500hrs into HLL and it's the first game I learned M&K on and really hate the speed change. I'm trying to like but It's not's for me.
Thats what I thought, thanks for your work. Ill take a break from HLL for a while, this update turned me off big time
Feels a lot more like battlefield now then the HellLetLoose i love
Neat!
I would agree that whoever was filling in the values basically set it to a nice even number like 4.5 or 5m/s. Unless there's some formulas or functions or conversion factors that are more in depth, it's always worth finding the nearest 'nominal' round numbers when a human has to enter one in.
finally they increased the sprint speed, before it was so sluggish.
The vast majority of people either dont know or cant tell, it seems. Redditors want you to actually believe its not Call of Duty.
The sprinting before was still way too slow to actually feel real. to stop run and gun gameplay what is actually required is inertia
Running was way too slow man, and in a game where its all open field and no means of transportation. Speed is now way better, and its is nowhere near COD, BF... and its even slower than Arma 3, PS and Squad's running speed. You guys complain about everything. Yes you are paranoid.
@@GianWarGasm It's always the little things...
honestly people should be complaining there isn't a stamina meter.
Shameful.
Im not a fan of the new update. I hope they fix this but as i am seeing the new devs are going full greed mode and will slowly kill the game.
Is there a lot more head bob when pistols are equipped?
this feels like im reliiving h1z1 die
wheni wanted show my dad this game. when he saw that player can run on hill the same way as on field he get furious started yeling at me that its so unrealistick game and was pissed of
Kek
I'm sure lots of people are asking about it but is the reduced XP intentional? If it's not, did Team 17 acknowledge it?
Its a UI bug, all XP earnings have not been changed
So... The XP is the same but the numbers shown are wrong?
@@billynair It seems like the XP for the account it reduced for sure. The XP for the classes themselves might be fine.
i dunno how the medium tank of german can pen the heavy tank of british
Because its not a heavy tank. Its a medium tank body with a heavy tank gun. IIRC the m4 body, but could be mistaken on the exact model.
I wouldn't consider this anywhere near those games' speeds.
It's not as bad as Battlefields or Cods. If the devs added something like slide cancelling, infinite run glitch (prior to MW2019), bunny hopping and all that BS. Then you know that's even worse than the new running speed.
doodle pog
Original sprint speed in Kickstarter stage was about the same as the current speed.
It is too fast with the new update. Ok to be a bit faster but this is way overdoing it both for quality of play and being realistic. Humans don't run almost 11mph for long distances. That's a 5 and a half minute mile speed in combat over varied terrain. Not good
Destroyed the game, I won‘t play with the unreal sprint speed, the beginning of the end = L17 + U14
So you think you would run that slow in a real combat?
WW2 soldiers carried less weight than current day ones, especially how they are depicted in the game. They should be able to run faster than what they used to.
@@karyak54 I would personally run even slower, because I’m a little fat
I like the change. And I think you should get over the fact they didn’t tell you lol
Love the new speed. Nothing like cod or bf. If you say it is, play the new ones and then come back lol.
honestly this could be solved with a stamina meter. everyone is up in arms about this being fast and blah blah and never mentioning whether old or new speed, you still sprinting across the map without any consequences.
Love the new update
The new speed is excellent, just like how it used to be in classic HLL
Did you miss the part in the video where it shows that it's U14 is a lot faster than pre-U8?
So much fun seeing people zigzagging and worming all over the place and being able to run faster than heavy tanks at full speed... They broke so many things with this stupid change. Two patches in and T17 is already showing they are taking this game in a completely different direction, and I don't think it's a good one.
They ruined the game
I just want RO2 back. Sick of this garbage game now. This game is a fucking mess now.
didnt notice the speed change cause im still pretty new only got about 59 or 60 hours in so far but i feel like they had it perfect its just fast enough so i dont feel like im in waste high water and its at a slow speed sure but way i saw it is it would give the illusion that the maps are bigger atleast right? idk love this game so far though and doubt that opinions gonna change lol
Could u make a quick tutorial on artillery and machine gun support class? Those 2 roles seem so misunderstood
Destroyed the game.
