  • Chad provides a comprehensive lesson on the trends in Electron Affinity and Electronegativity. The lesson begins with the technical definition of Electron Affinity as well as its general trend which gets more negative (increases) from left to right across the periodic table. Notable exceptions to the general trend that students are usually responsible for knowing are then covered and explained. Successive electron affinities are then covered with a discussion of why electron affinities beyond the first tend to be endothermic. The lesson is concluded with a discussion on the definition of electronegativity and a description of its periodic trend.

Hey Chad, what book or books do you recommend most on general chemistry? :) Cheers

Between Lithium and Boron which one has a higher electron affinity? I understand the trend increases from going up and right, but on the electron affinity chart, Lithium is more electronegative than B, would this also be apart of the exceptions?
