I think the idea of Naafiri being powerful enough to lead the darkin is all in her head. Like some of the other darkin, she vied for leadership and believed that she deserved to be in control because she believed she was the strongest. It turns into a story of a massive ego humbled into looking at the power dynamics from a different perspective.
i feel like naafiri WANTED to be picked up by a host, waiting for whatever living thing would grasp it, so she willingly separated parts of the weapon while being VERY confused of becoming one with not just one, but multiple vessels. that would leave anyone completely disoriented
Literally every single darkin want nothing more than for a host to pick them up. Obviously? It literally even says in her lore that she called out to the hounds, so they could kill the guy and Naafiri could take over him that way. Every single darkin want to be picked up by a host. lmfao.
How can she even know there is a way out of the prison? Aatrox had no idea he can control others when they pick him up, so how does Naafiri know about it? Was she used before, if so why was that never mentioned in the story?
I think Naafiri's hype is most likely that high because all champions weren't having a proper event to introduce them (Except Viego, tho it was catastrophic, he stilled was hyped) But Naafiri remind us of the Darkin Even that is yet to come, thus the hype I think, and not Naafiri itself.
Hey, remember when they fundamentally changed all the rules of the Void by releasing a character and then did absolutely nothing with it because of course the shittiest batch of Star Guardians to ever be thinked up should take the spotlight instead?
Since the story is from Naafiri’s point of view, it could be that every Darkin thought they where the most powerfull and close to leading everyone else, not just Naafiri being another very powerful Darkin
can we take a moment to appreciate that he will tell the lore over and over again for us and new viewers even tho he doesnt have to. Really appreciate this kind of effort man
Took a while but finally feel like we got another Champ that fits perfectly. She is also the first simple champion in a long time not with an overloaded kit like everyone seem to have now. She is interesting cause she seems to want to unite her kin well the rest of the darkin are just off doing their own things. If she could unite her Kin they could get revenge on Xolaani
When the story talks about Naafiri being one of the most powerful darkin and that she could lead the rest, I think it means that this is, in her madness and lust for power, what Naafiri thinks. It fits me less about the dogs taking the dagger. Still I don't see why she couldn't be one of the most powerful, after all those who have awakened have done so by chance, not because of their power.
To me this creates a new path for future darkness story lines because the text makes it sound like naafiri has shaken off her madness at least a bit via the pack wisdom could lead to like so many outcomes It feels like her plot line could change so much that the only thing holding her back is lack of character development seeing as her only goal right now is: find darkin
Every struggle nafiri has trying to get her allies to be alongside eachother is justice and its interesting you said it was rushed given how I've seen things irl. So many left behind cuz they are not good enough when everything is everything for everything to have everything and to leave anything behind is to accept nothing as a result. Whether we all unite or not is not the question, do you think the time is worth connection or a lesson about why it is connection?
4:45 It was never explicit said that the souls of the Darkin were sealed inside the Chalicar, the "reverse ascension" Ta'anari did with the reflection of the moon on the glass amphitheater seemed to actually killed the Ascended present there because the process of ascension was apparently reverted, Ta'anari even said to Myisha that he was mortal once more before being betrayed by her, she then used the chalicar to cut open his chest and used his heart to create the first Darkin weapon (that supposedly still exists) That's my interpretation at least...
We don't know what did she end up doing with his heart, but the rest of what you said is correct. The Chalicar is a powerful magical weapon, which of course Sivir can't really exploit. However they couldn't really make Ta'anari into a Darkin and they honestly had no need to, as he got reverted back to his mortal form. Apparently this moonfire ritual couldn't be used to defeat the rest of the Darkin, thats why they resorted to the sealing method. Some were perhaps so powerful they couldn't have defeated otherwise. This mishap from Necrit is not surprising in the slightest, though
Completely off topic but your voice helps me sleep at all times of the day.I work weird hours and ill need to take naps to recover I’ll put on a lore video and pass out. Good shit man 🤠
I kind of want a Darkin where their entire shtick is they hunt kther Darkin. Not to become more powerful or to take over the world or anything, but just because they got bored with all of the classic Darkin motivations and decided that they wanted to do something new, that being hunting their brothers and sisters because they're really the only thing they know of at the moment that would entertaining to fight
I like how naafiri darkin weapon is a dagger with an eye and that instead of possessing a human, she possesses a wild animal. Thats pretty bad ass. I also love her adaptive story to it and how she begins to learn with the dog pack. Its a very unique and interesting story. Man riot/league always has interesting story well 90 percent of them are.
They weren't, the story never reinforced or even hinted at this prior to LoR, quite the opposite actually. They all chased their own desires, and hated the rest, they became cruel warmongers with nothing of their former nobility remaining
0:07 I thought we were pretty unified about Renata as well? Awesome Lore, Incredible design, good kit with a strong ult. I'd say, she was received very well (but maybe i'm just a delusional Renata main XD)
I have to say, of all or LoL and LoR- the lore and story and characters of shurima and the dark in are my absolute FAVORITE and i always get so amped when there is new ones
Necrit, Ascendeds aren't only in Shurima there are also those who were in Icathia and most of the darkins come from Icathia thanks to LoR confirming that Aatrox was once called the blade of Icathia
Nice lore coverage as always! I think many people (especially a friend of mine) are going to be very happy to finally get a new non-human champion into the game.
0:31 why is this an issue? i find it pretty funny and creative that some random animal gets a strong artifact that turns it into an apex predator and nothing more.
How I personally interpret Naafiri saying she almost lead them, is that she just thinks herself more powerful than she realistically is. Not saying she isn't powerful at all, just that if I were a near immortal god being my ego wud be pretty big, especially after having eons to remember the days when I could take on some of the best of my kin. Like many of the Darkin she probably thought she knew best and wanted to lead her own way. I'd love to see a story where she actually meets the others and has to confront that the other Darkin don't share her ambitions and even treat her as lesser because of her form, maybe even flat out ignoring her.
Personally, I think Naafiri talking to herself about how powerful she was and how she almost ruled all the darkin is just her ego. From her story, it seems she was kind of a "I'm the best, I'll kick everybody's ass and I don't need anyone's help, I'm a god, I can take on the world on my own" kind of person and she is a power crazy darkin so it does fit. She is saying something like "oh dude I could TOTALLY solo every single darkin! Aatrox? Pffff! I could beat Aatrox with one hand but daaaaamn this aspect of twilight! Well I guess I can't really fight them now BUT if not for this pesky aspect, dude! I would totally win trust me. She practically saved them!" It's kind of like if I said "dude I could totally beat Goku". Naafiri does give off that kind of vibe, at least to me.
I think Naafiri should be considered an unreliable Narrator when she speaks of her power. The Darkin went mad because of power so it would make sense that each and every one of the Darkin would THINK they were close to becoming leader, even if the reality looks different.
Honestly, I took the dogs eating the dagger as a consequence of her decision to call to them instead of to the man carrying her. I've always kind of imagined the Darkin has a minor amount of influence over the people around them... allowing them to persuade more hesitant individuals to becoming their hosts. So, when she called to the hounds, she influenced them to seek power they didn't even know existed... and they took it greedily and happily.
The "Naafiri is really powerfull" part seemed to me as part of her lamenting. Could be that's just how she sees herself. They are pretty mad after all.
I think when she says that she almost led the Darkin it is her pride speaking. Its most likely what most of the darkin thought in their hubris. I think this is true because this isnt a narrarator in the 3rd person(an all knowing narrarator) , but a narrarator in the first person(Naafiri) whom has certain biases. Her real strenght is to be determined
I feel that the part where it's said she was powerful enough to almost led the darkin is just her mere pride and ambition, her regret glorifying what could have been if she didn't get tricked and trapped like all the others, just the bitter, mournful musings of someone alone with her thoughts and nothing else, like a lone dog, howling.
Personally also not a fan of how they treated the Darkin weapon as something that can break, BUT it opens up a very interesting new avenue as to why other Darkin weapons haven't been broken: If each piece of the weapon acts as a conduit into the Darkin's mind (and to slip under their control), chances are that a Darkin split over many many pieces would just either reassemble their weapon - assuming their power gets weaker, the more they are split - or that the Darkin would just take over an entire country with their own hivemind, by breaking themself into more and more parts. Could be an interesting way to take a potential Darkin (in LoR or something), where the entire gimmick is that they're a hivemind of a lot of people, that got dominated because they all have a tiny shard of the original weapon on their body somewhere.
I think you have a misconception about Darkin weapon. Those weapons aren't "un-DMG able", but "indestructible". Part of weapon is made literally by Darkin's FLESH, you can look at Aatrox sword with a beating heart, Raast and Naafiri have eye with flesh around it. It had been said Aatrox blade and Raast can change their side, big/small at will. Darkin weapon can be damaged, but because it made with Darkin flesh, the regeneration will never stop.
Doesn't matter how hungry dogs are, they WON'T eat a pipe of metal (remember that the sword the guy used to defend didn't get eaten). They eat Naafiri blade because the flesh, and if you look at Naafiri, the whole blade still there, intact inside pack mother's skull.
It was said that an unimaginable force pulled the immortal souls of the Ascended into their weapons, which were already tools used by Gods. Therefore the fact that a dog can just break them apart is incredibly stupid. The Ascended's weapons are also quite large, since they are too, around twice the height of a normal person. In one of Elise's stories, its mentioned that a Shuriman tomb-raider wields an obisidian sword he looted in the ruins, which is theorised by the guy to only have been a dagger for the huge Ascended
I was under the impression that her statement about being able to control all the darkin was more of a baseless boost instead of her actually being that powerful.
12:45 for the sake of immersion I'm writing that part of the story off as Naafiri stoking her own ego, she is obviously subservient to Aatrox otherewise she wouldn't have followed his memo
Darkin (Ascended) vs Void rematch? The year that I seem to recall that Bel’Veth claimed she would give the world a bit of hope since she thinks nothing can stop her anyways. Darkin unites (something that might be unthinkable according to Bel’Veth) and fights back the void to save the world (but for their own reason, perhaps to take dominion over it for themselves?).
@@SwagliciousGamingLikely not, considering her weapon is not really suitable for supporting and her ego is too high to serve someone. Maybe one day we will have Joraal (Darkin Aegis) as a darkin support.
One thing i do really like about Necrit is the fact that he always make a quick recap of the lore so that even a person who is ignorant of it could catch-up with what's going on..... Have you ever considered working as a history teacher??
I feel the more host one have to more control they have over madness Like her and Varus are very much in their right mind when approaching issues versus carnage without intent
I hope that you understand that I don't at all read any LOR or league lore, I really do just appreciate you telling it all and that's the biggest point on why I watch your videos and am a fan of all your content. I'm interested but way to lazy to read it.
Somehow the sense of nonachievement, famish and restlessness (plus the fact she's also a four legged mammal - despite being feline) remind me of Zira from the Lion King 2. Plus some Hyena vibes too.. Also, there are some epic visuals that seem to be inspired by The Prince of Egypt too. The feral energy I get from this cinematic makes my blood almost tingly, I'm super excited to see it in game!
I think you misunderstood the "powerful darkin", that is just Naafiri puffing up herself, all the darkin do that... Rhaast does that. And her being able to take multiple hosts... it is more because of the hosts' own peculiar physiology than her power, Varus technically has two hosts and them being human they can together influence him, which means more than one host is too much for Drakins, Naafiri got influenced too... but in a more primal way. To me the story clearly tells that Naafiri isn't even close to being as competent or powerful as she thinks she is, he tentative to use the hounds to make the person carrying her make a mistake misfired, and she got fused with animals, and because there are too many her mind got influenced.
From what I gather, the only Darkin "truly" able to control multiple host bodies simultaneously seems to be Aatrox. Xolaani absolutely loses herself in the Aspect-bane form if I remember my LoR card descriptions right, and Aatrox just brute forces his way through hosts and essentially "burns" up their bodies WAY quicker than the other Darkin. I guess you could make a case for Xolaani being ultimately as powerful as Aatrox in that regard, because she is the one who invented the bloodmagic in the first place. Doesn't necessarily mean she perfected it, but definitely does give her an edge.
About the blade splitting part: what if the hounds just bit into it at the same time, so as they say whoever touches it gets possessed. Idk if the story explicitly says that it shattered because that’s a contradiction, but maybe just an inaccurate recollection of the event.

I think it makes sense, calling her one of the more powerful ones, as shurima had a lot of god warriors. Even speculating that one General or however they were called, led a hundred, that would leave space for dozens of strong individuals that could work as powerful champions or even important characters in general.
The thing I'd like was to see was a darkin with the weapon of Old Aatrox, something similar to the weapon of Ivy from Soul Calibur franchise. Xolaani could be an user of that weapon.
I truly feel like the fact that Naafiri is already in shurima is already progressing darkin lore, if I remember correctly both aatrox and varus lore brings up them traveling to shurima and meeting up with at least 3 other darkin, the next darkin release may be a huge event based in shurima
Wrong, the last time we heard from Aatrox was in Pantheon's story, where he was apparently defeated. However what happened to the sword after that is probably not known even by the writers
It would’ve been cooler if she was actually a weaker Darkin who already had experience using blood magic to make smaller versions of herself and the pack enhanced that in a surprising way for her. Like she had looked down on animals, but experiencing the minds and thoughts of pack animals made her go, “oh, this is so much better.”

How can she even know there is a way out of the prison? Aatrox had no idea he can control others when they pick him up, so how does Naafiri know about it? Was she used before, if so why was that never mentioned in the story?
I think Naafiri's hype is most likely that high because all champions weren't having a proper event to introduce them (Except Viego, tho it was catastrophic, he stilled was hyped)
But Naafiri remind us of the Darkin Even that is yet to come, thus the hype I think, and not Naafiri itself.
Hey, remember when they fundamentally changed all the rules of the Void by releasing a character and then did absolutely nothing with it because of course the shittiest batch of Star Guardians to ever be thinked up should take the spotlight instead?
I'm not hyped for some event, I'm hyped for the puppy
Darkins and their lore is popular among the players. So it's not that surprising that a solid Darkin character would also become popular.
Event? I lost all faith of events last year😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Since the story is from Naafiri’s point of view, it could be that every Darkin thought they where the most powerfull and close to leading everyone else, not just Naafiri being another very powerful Darkin
can we take a moment to appreciate that he will tell the lore over and over again for us and new viewers even tho he doesnt have to.
Good narrative yes but her kit is over tuned the bleed and true sight from a press dumb
Let the bleed go away for true sight on Q mark
Always happy to see lore videos on champions with more lore than Shaco!
So any champion?
@@thesolarhunter exactly
That's not a very high bar to set, I don't think Shaco even exists in lore right now

Got a HOT feeling that this story continues in LoR someday! The darkin ballista could be the first darkin that she encounters!
Oh boy, dog vs chicken. Who will be roasted the most by Aatrox?
@@kalebriss one day we'll find out!
I'd love to see the original forms of the darkin sometime.
I think the "really strong" and "almost ruled" part is essential for all the darkin
You can see in the cinematic how the raider is trying to pick the blade up before the hounds but is unsuccessful
4:45 It was never explicit said that the souls of the Darkin were sealed inside the Chalicar, the "reverse ascension" Ta'anari did with the reflection of the moon on the glass amphitheater seemed to actually killed the Ascended present there because the process of ascension was apparently reverted, Ta'anari even said to Myisha that he was mortal once more before being betrayed by her, she then used the chalicar to cut open his chest and used his heart to create the first Darkin weapon (that supposedly still exists)
That's my interpretation at least...
Naafiri's story and cinematic is sick, I love it
I'm not much of a LOL person but I adore this character concept and the story is fantastic imo
Completely off topic but your voice helps me sleep at all times of the day.I work weird hours and ill need to take naps to recover I’ll put on a lore video and pass out. Good shit man 🤠
I’ve heard this man explain the shuriman empire more times than I can count but love it everytime
Riot didn't confirm she was strong enough to beat aatrox. She did. Doesn't mean it's true. She could just be really overconfident. I like that.
The part where it says she almost led the Darkin was from Naafiri's perspect8ive. It tells us she got quite the ego, like all Darkin seem to have.
Just noticed now that the shape of the dagger is literally on the "leader" creature's face, the ear being the handle, we can see it at 10:20
Sounds like the darkin were split into multiple factions after Asir’s death and Naafiri and Aatrox were the leaders of some of these factions.
Xolaani and Aatrox were among the 2 biggest faction leaders from what I know. Any other factions were of smaller scale and lesser impact.
I mean, she had potential. And then they did absolutely nothing with her.
@@Ronan-ht6jc same with Bel'veth
Lets hope for Arcane Season 2
I have to say, of all or LoL and LoR- the lore and story and characters of shurima and the dark in are my absolute FAVORITE and i always get so amped when there is new ones
Necrit, Ascendeds aren't only in Shurima there are also those who were in Icathia and most of the darkins come from Icathia thanks to LoR confirming that Aatrox was once called the blade of Icathia
Nice lore coverage as always! I think many people (especially a friend of mine) are going to be very happy to finally get a new non-human champion into the game.
0:31 why is this an issue? i find it pretty funny and creative that some random animal gets a strong artifact that turns it into an apex predator and nothing more.
that TLDR explainer would be a fire animated series like Arcane. League lore bout to be pop culture soon if they could produce it fast enough
I look forward to hearing AAtrox´s new voice lines
I dont think thats happening anytime soon
They don’t tend to add lines to old champs when they introduce new ones.
oh woah, I had completely forgotten about Omen until you brought his image up lmao!! YEP, WE FINALLY GOT HIM! (a her now)
Personally, I think Naafiri talking to herself about how powerful she was and how she almost ruled all the darkin is just her ego.
Im just glad they finally made a monster champ after so long.
I think Naafiri should be considered an unreliable Narrator when she speaks of her power. The Darkin went mad because of power so it would make sense that each and every one of the Darkin would THINK they were close to becoming leader, even if the reality looks different.
The story didn't say she WAS a really powerful and almost took over the Darkin.
She THOUGHT she was.
Like every other Darkin.
Smartest man in shurima, picking up eldritch weapons with a long stick and wrapping it in thick (even LEAD-LINED) cloth
Been waiting on this video. But she’s a pretty solid character
I like how she seems to be the solution to all this chaos
One Darkin left for a support role and the Darkin Team is complete.
Her real strenght is to be determined
the whole line about her "leading the Darkkin" could just be her hubris about how she perceived the war against the other Darkkins.
i read the "she was strong and was going to be the leader" as her pov and her view - not actually being one of the strongest, but feeling like it
I feel that the part where it's said she was powerful enough to almost led the darkin is just her mere pride and ambition, her regret glorifying what could have been if she didn't get tricked and trapped like all the others, just the bitter, mournful musings of someone alone with her thoughts and nothing else, like a lone dog, howling.
Dang necrit out did him self.. this is a very good summary of the lore of the darkin and ascended, and i only came for naairi
Personally also not a fan of how they treated the Darkin weapon as something that can break, BUT it opens up a very interesting new avenue as to why other Darkin weapons haven't been broken:
If each piece of the weapon acts as a conduit into the Darkin's mind (and to slip under their control), chances are that a Darkin split over many many pieces would just either reassemble their weapon - assuming their power gets weaker, the more they are split - or that the Darkin would just take over an entire country with their own hivemind, by breaking themself into more and more parts.
The dagger is not broken. It’s literally on her face. Look at the red part of the left half of her face.
A Necrit lore video? In this lore economy?
We're blessed.
I've never read lore but that tl;dr was frickin epic
Imagine if Xolaani gets Silco-ed and she is replaced by Naafiri down to her goals even.
Like how Silco was basically replaced by Renata.
It's been so long since we've gotten to hear necrit talk about league lore
Very informative, Thank you Necrit.
Loved the whole presentation of her cinematic
I was under the impression that her statement about being able to control all the darkin was more of a baseless boost instead of her actually being that powerful.
Me on my way to listen to Darkins' lore again for the 968th time at 3 A.M.
It could be that Nafiri's line about almost leading the Darkin is just arrogant bluster.
Vienna sausage in pants joke hilarious 😂....keep em comming!
12:57 to me that part just feels like ego on Naafiri’s part, she sees herself as one of, if not the most powerful darkin.
12:45 for the sake of immersion I'm writing that part of the story off as Naafiri stoking her own ego, she is obviously subservient to Aatrox otherewise she wouldn't have followed his memo
she is hype because her entire kit brings us back to the good old days of 2016~2018 but most importantly you can pet the doggo.
This vaguely reminds me of Anubis from Jojo's bizarre Adventure, with how she whispers to humans and animals to pick her up so she can possess them.
:) I enjoy her ability to heal her pack, for now I consider her a healer. Unfortunate she won't heal the other allies. Oh well :)
I'm waiting for the darkin support :_)
@@josiahlewis5838 the darkin support would most likely be xolaani, since shes a healer in the lore
I feel the more host one have to more control they have over madness
Like her and Varus are very much in their right mind when approaching issues versus carnage without intent
Well done again, @Necrit!
just came up with the though. Imange getting a Ascended camp who turns into a Darkin as Ultimate or slowly by each level. Would be kinda sick
I think you have a misconception about Darkin weapon. Those weapons aren't "un-DMG able", but "indestructible". 14:26 Oh wow, holy, I didn't even think about that lolololol.
Naafiri: these dogs useless
Hounds: [borks]
Naafiri: I see, you are wise beyond words.
I think it makes sense, calling her one of the more powerful ones, as shurima had a lot of god warriors.
Even speculating that one General or however they were called, led a hundred, that would leave space for dozens of strong individuals that could work as powerful champions or even important characters in general.
Hey necrit love the videos and i cant wait for you to do a video on her interactions with the other legends and the lore behind it
I just want a Daarkin animated show or anime. Man just imagine the void war and the Daarkins animated, goddamit
The thing I'd like was to see was a darkin with the weapon of Old Aatrox, something similar to the weapon of Ivy from Soul Calibur franchise. Xolaani could be an user of that weapon.
Imo this lore is simple and clean, i like it even if there isn't too much going on
I think the part that said that she almost lead the darking was her on delusions of grandeur because of the madnes
Everytime Nasus kills Naafiri he better say "what have I done?" And when they see each other they say "what da dog doin"
All the art of the old Darkin reminds of New Phyrexia from magic
HERE ME OUT!
CAN ORNN FORGE A WEAPON TO SEAL A DARKIN? , WHAT WILL BE IT'S OUTCOME?
It would’ve been cooler if she was actually a weaker Darkin who already had experience using blood magic to make smaller versions of herself and the pack enhanced that in a surprising way for her. Like she had looked down on animals, but experiencing the minds and thoughts of pack animals made her go, “oh, this is so much better.”
