A great overview of the set's history. Regarding definitions such as you found with the the definition of a liberal education, I have become so wary of modern, online dictionaries - they can change definitions with the click of a button!

What equipment did you use to get rid of the smell? I just bought a set of Harvard Classics and they stink to high Heaven of mildew!
PS: I am starting my own publishing company in the future and will be “resurrecting” the Harvard Classics for a new generation! They will have the same look and feel as the originals

To get a genuine understanding of what the term: "A good Liberal Arts EDUCATION" means, you will need to "look it up" in a volume published from 1860 to about 1950. By the end of the 1960's and early 1970's the whole idea of what a "College Education" was comprised of changed beyond recognition!

I have all the Harvard Classics and all the Great Books of the Western World as well as all the Great Ideas Today and the Gateway to the Great Books and the Great Ideas Program and have read most of them :)

Regarding the Bible, Mortimer Adler said the same thing regarding the "Great Books of the Western World" collection.

Thank you for your review! I have a question, the registered edition contains all of the 52 volumes but just in 23 books?
