DIY SMD Reflow Oven for PCB Soldering, Using Toaster Oven Without Conversion or Transformation

- This video shows an easy modular solution to use a convection toaster oven for PCB reflow soldering. It doesn't require any conversion / transformation on the oven. Simply plug the oven into an external controller and it will follow the reflow profile to solder your circuit boards! Let's bake!
Great video. I was mainly wondering if a cheap oven like this would work. Your solution is very elegant.
Thanks! It has become an essential tool for my work.
where do you find/buy the thermocouple probe? Are you planning to release the source code?
This is exactly what I've been searching for - Very good setup and explanation. I'm interested in getting on board with a schematic and firmware. Note that the model number provided below: House Kitchen NH25-6-SS does not show up when I search Amazon. No issue on the status of the code - That's how I put bread on the table :). Again - Great Job and Thank you.
Found it: www.amazon.com/New-House-Kitchen-Toaster-Oven/dp/B07H9QWT95/ref=sr_1_18?dchild=1&keywords=House+Kitchen+oven&qid=1604517801&sr=8-18
Thanks and glad it helped! The model number is correct, however it's no longer available on Amazon. Try Amazon's ASIN "B07H9QWT95" on google, you should be able to find it.
@@XueMingYu It looks like the model is discontinued. The closest model I could find is "1500 W 6-Slice Black and Silver Convection Toaster Oven" by Black & Decker. $63 at Home Depot. I'll go to Home Depot and take a closer look. I'd be willing to modify the toaster slightly so I wouldn't have close the door on the thermocouple.
@@3deeguy This is unfortunate, however any oven of this type should work as well. Good luck with your project!
@@XueMingYu Thank you for posting a great video.
Wow the results are amazing
Indeed! It worked amazingly well!
suprised by your controller! I think this controller may also apply to electric iron. Do you have plan to open source your controller board?
Thanks! I should probably do that after I find time to clean up my codes!
@@XueMingYu Im also very interested in the code! even if its not cleaned it, it'll provide a great starting reference :D
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
A convection toaster oven with manual controls is an excellent idea. Did you put the k-type thermocouple inside the oven without damaging the insulation?
No, nothing was damaged.
Hey Xueming Great Video!, i have a doubt mate, like 4 months ago, i took once the toaster oven from my kitchen and placed to another room to reflow a LED on a copper board, i don't have liquid solder so i used that wire of solder and not flux just solder paste, okay i didn't reflow inside the toaster oven, i did it in the top outside, when pressing the LED to sit as close as possible solder blobs came out and sat on the top outside of my oven, I took a cotton wool to catch those blobs of solder and after that i took another 2 cotton wools to clean any excess, do you think i'm in troubles? i've been using it in my kitchen since that.
I would suggest not to do that again as from what I understand of solder, it is very bad for you
If you are still alive, don't worry. I used to reflow ps3 and Xbox in my personal oven. Pretty sure I don't have cancer
@@meticulouselectronics hey friend, hahaha okay I understand, I lost my fear to solder wire, now I'm worried about solder paste xd.
@@josxd8598 all the old mechanics I've worked with taste fluids to determine what they are when they are looking at leaks. Then cover their hands in anti seize and eat lunch. You'll be fine friend
@@meticulouselectronics Thank you friend, I've only used solder paste (67 tin / 37 lead) 2 times, and one time I applied it on the desk where I have my PC, you know the powder is pretty small, nice to know a few isn't dangerous.
I have all the parts I need to build this today. Is your code available at github or elsewhere?
Will be, hopefully!
Great project !!!
9:14 Wouldn't the tape's adhesive melt?
It survived.
Awesome!
Great!
35C? Do you not have AC, dude?
What's the model number of the oven?
House Kitchen NH25-6-SS. Thanks!
I can't even see 0201 never mind solder damn things.
I expect you to publish the commercial version
just dont put it in too long and let it cool down
What have you done to your kitchen??? A woman will have a heart attack!!!
I like your account name!
@@XueMingYu A quaint concept called PRIVACY. Quora would not me register until I gave them my REAL NAME. Well, they got a name eventually out of me, so that they would stop blocking me, but it sure as heck was not my real name. People are crazy these days, revealing personal info left and right.
Thanks for sharing, nice work! :)
