This is dumb. He sets this up as some profound piece of wisdom but he’s just joining two ideas that everyone learns in preschool: no one knows everything, no one is perfect. Thus everyone is in a position where they could learn more AND be more fulfilled with their life. People really fall for the most hollow rhetorical trickery when it comes out of JPs mouth.

I've been Uber driving for about six weeks. I've found that it is a beautiful opportunity to engage in valuable conversations with complete strangers. The key is to be interested in what a man or woman has to say, and to let that man or woman know you are interested. Picking up crumbs of knowledge and dispensing those crumbs is hugely satisfying. Many riders leave my car happier and more satisfied than they were when they climbed in.

    • @BeinIan

Is it? The only benefit I see is that it saves time, but applying that perspective to all of your conversations means you miss out on learning all kinds of things. Then you're forced to learn the lessons through experience, which takes much longer than the deep conversation would have.
I think the nugget of truth at the center of your statement is that we should strive to express ourselves as precisely as possible to avoid misunderstandings. But even when we fail to do so, we can often learn just as much from the misunderstanding if we take time to understand it.

Why would you want to know the meaning of life from a human he is a creature like you he struggles with life like you he have his own problem like you...if you want to know the meaning of life go read God words (allah)

    • @Nicoladen1
      @Nicoladen1 2 роки тому +1

And perhaps that in itself is the meaning 😁
Learning more and more until you've learned so much that you realize logic was after all not what life is about. Life is experience, all thought and logic is pausing life to comment on said experience. Looking for meaning is neglecting life to stick to your notebook all your life finding meaning. Until at last you realize you missed the point completely.
How to live happily? Live fully. Stop commenting on everything life has to offer, because you're not fully alive when you're stuck in that notebook. That's why kids are so joyful, why sunsets can be beautiful. Because just for a moment we close that notebook of logic and reasoning and we just embrace the experience. That's all.

Spent too many years with someone who wouldn't hear me, and would commonly respond with emotionally abusive tactics. Now trying to relearn how to allow others in and have a collaboration and conversation rather than hiding behind the fear and nervously talking about myself. To trust allowing someone to be heard and listened to and take interest in them well, and chance being shut out by another human and made to feel invisible is so hard.

Meaningful conversation and seeking wisdom, a fair assumption that its what we want, it seems that a lot of people my self included were just a pile of mouthbreathers bringing our answers and opinions to the table. Now I dont feel so weird about listening with intent to seek someone elses knowledge and seeing how I can use it was what I loved to do. Finding people to have that conversation with is tough most of the time. Life feels like a Zoo of loose animals,( I'm a bird) so I just like listening to your p.o.v.
Sometimes I just cant understand your point, but when I do, oh boy, I see the puzzle differently, like my meditations and where they begin in my mind, is so beyond tv or imagination wow, I knew I was connected with God but you helped me confirm that, I live so far north in Ontario that going to another city to see you speak is a serious goal...hoping for Winnipeg on July 9, or was it 29th...hmmm

For so many years I had this idea of “I know exactly what the other person would say in a particular conversation” so I don’t have to pay any attention to what they want to say, I think that would work if you know that person for so long that you’ll know what they will say about something. But after this video I started to realize that was totally different and that person likely would say something entirely useful and you could learn from it

These are very good plan points to a conversation. How many of us actually have these types of chats. I see, after reflection, it's very rare in my life. I'm to busy trying to walk my path, to stop and smell the flowers.🤔

Listening to everyone, really listening and hoping to join them in their perspective regardless of how you feel about them is quite possibly the most difficult, yet admirable traits to earn. I've known a few people that can do this and it really is earned. Its something you work for with years of practice. It requires patience, compassion, understanding, and a deep innate calm.
I personally fucking hate people and don't see myself getting there anytime soon, but one can hope!

Peterson is right. The person has to want to be helped and be willing.
I've learned that the hard way on more then one occasion that you cannot force it which is difficult if you want to help them badly enough and they are being difficult or even impossible.
You care about there well being enough to be a bit aggressive when they forsake themselves and everything that matters and you get less forceful every new person yet when it gets frustrating enough to the point that it feels futile you can get quite amgry about their behavior
and its hard to let it go and leave them to their bad choices even if you know that's the only choice they've given you because it feels like your giving up on them but in reality its them who are giving up and you just don't want to sit there and destroy yourself watching them destroy themselves and you..
Which walking away can so very difficult.. Its like the 100 there's a scene where Monty is trying his absolute hardest to change his friend jaspers mind but he is unable to and stays on that track to the bitter end. to be there when jasper drinks a drug that kills himself.. Its a very powerful scene and shows you how bad this situation can get.

I'm trying reintegrate back into my own family, social structures, etc... I was having an issue with funding a purpose in speaking with people because of the thinking "who really cares, this prob doesn't matter to you so why share it?" in legitimately every conversation I waa having to the pojnt where I just started being short with everyone. No substance just enough to answer what was asked to avoid judgement or confusion. That's life though, finding the answers, finding the purpose. It just gets weird sometimes, I try not to be stoic as a result of the unanswered and assumed and just be glad I'm curious at all. I'd like to shape my curiousity into a more positive tool, just not sure how yet. But I'm learning.
