The actors did a solid job, it was funny, and I really liked her Carol Danvers as someone who is intergalactic ally concerned and wouldn't be on earth. She's gotta clean up the messes she made before and has been through a loooot of brain washing. Nobody thought Bucky was flat when he didn't talk for 90% of Winter Soldier. He was brain washed way less than Capt Marvel.
I think the biggest problem is the character was shoe horned in between the last two movies of the infinity saga and just wasn't very well implemented. If they'd had time to develop the character, establish their relationships and interactions with other characters, they could have made it work. As is it feels like a very forced character that didn't need to be there.
I'm so happy I'm not the only one with this opinion. I loved Captain Marvel but it felt rushed when released. I think they should have used End Game as a introduction to the character and then released the movie after Spiderman: Far From Home. It could've been a nice, lighthearted, comedic movie after all the heartbreak and good set up for phase four.
I feel like it was awesome. It's actually one of my favorite "side" movies. The story of the kree(along with tying ronin in) as well as the beginning of shield with Fury.
There were a LOT of issues with filming the Marvel movies. They led to a lot of movies coming out in the wrong order and having to be re-written to better fit the continuity. Things like writing Antman out of the Ultron story despite the original story having Ultron be a colab project between Stark and Pimm since the Antman movie got delayed so long.
I agree, she doesn’t even do anything until the final battle in Endgame. That movie could’ve been erased from existence along with half the universe in Infinity War, plus cutting out the character from Endgame and you would miss nothing
The fact is they wanted to make her a BIG THING. But she's got little personality and not very popular in comics even. They should ahve had the Black Widow movie between Infinity war and Endgame, it actually makes sense and not had Captain Marvel at all.@@andieb5400

@@kicknowledgesmith8608 hating her for her own opinion is ridiculous, everybody has a certain opinion on everything... i hate carol danvers not brie larson. Most of the Marvel fans hate carol because of the way she was portrayed in the films, too cocky; while Natasha, Wanda, Gamora etc have been there the all time yet we all love them... just with one cocky film marvel tried to push her as the strongest avenger to impress/motivate women audience.
The comics had Carol Danvers take up the role prior to Infinity War, so this hate is largely unfounded, particularly the whole “changing the gender of a character”. Like Supergirl wasn’t the first gender swapped character, or Batwoman, or any other Female version of a Male Superhero!
@@Ryanlexz considering Carol Danvers was once “Ms. Marvel”, she isn’t the gender bent version of Captain Marvel, that would be Mar Vell, the one Danvers reported too in the Air Force. But given that Supergirl had all the same powers as Superman, she’s literal a female version of Superman in that regard. Besides all of that, Carol Danvers took the name “Captain Marvel” in the comics before Infinity War, so the fact that she’s taking the name from the outset is just the MCU’s version of Carol Danvers becoming Captain Marvel, rather than Ms. Marvel. The fans hating Captain Marvel because of that is just hypocritical. Any comic book fan knows Carol Danvers took the name prior to Infinity War, so they can’t make the “Gender Bent” argument with Captain Marvel’s character when it comes to Carol Danvers. Brie Larson’s acting being “flat” was in line with her character. The Kree were constantly telling her to not let her emotions out, so being “flat” is just a result of holding back emotion. Anything outside the movie itself, I cannot comment on since I don’t delve that deep into MCU behind the scenes. But I hope you understand the point I was trying to make.

Yeah, an air force officer who also lost her memory and trained as an elite alien special forces commando. She's not going to be phased by much. Captain Marvel wasn't my favourite movie, but she played the character perfectly in line with the writing.
Yes!! And the whole complaint about her acting being flat is beyond stupid. THAT'S THE POINT!! She's been stripped of her humanity to the point where she doesn't know who she is. I really hope that in The Marvels her being surrounded by other heros gives her the chance to develope her personality.
@@elongatedmanforever1252Well if you were living a normal life as an air-force officer, survived a space stone explosion, got kidnapped, taken to space, got your memory wiped, turned into a weapon, and then found out your new space family is actually evil, then I don’t think you would have much of a personality after that.
Brie played the character pretty well. Her character in the MCU is constantly being trained to suppress her emotions. As a Navy officer and Kree soldier she wouldn't be emotional and would be awkward
Ok so you didn't understand why the character wasn't played well. Let me explain. The whole movie she is told not to show emotion. She never did. It would be one thing if she acted vibrantly and was told not to show emotion and she had problems doing it in the first place. Problem is throughout the whole movie she was played flat. So why did the other characters keep bringing it up.
@Casimenori meh it wasn't good for it's supporting cast or for Carol I'm afraid. She just got all of her powers at its maximum. So her character is pretty much stagnated. Nick fury lost all of his cool points and would continue to lose everytime he dealt with carols story beats. Everything he said or did was taken from him. The story was mid and damaged several characters in the mcu.
I don't hate her either. She was just shoe horned into the MCU. No real development, no real story arch. In the comics they never really know what to do with her either. In a sense that would confuse any actor
Carol Danvers was always a woman even in the comics. You kind of pulled some on that. Mar Vel was a man and the original Captain Marvel in the comics and whenever he was captain marvel Carol went by miss marvel and even if kamala was there she too would be miss marvel.
@@Red-cr8sj kind of hate that name change. I still refer to him as captain marvel a lot of the time. And will never forget the king shazam was a different character in lego batman 2 (first use pf the name change)
For me it's Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel, Shazam is the wizard. I've never really been a fan of Kamala, I don't think there's something specifically wrong with her I just don't really care for her. Part of that might be because I don't like the name change and I felt she was created as a replacement Mr. Fantastic (ability only) for the parts of the universe that didn't have him, like while Disney had Marvel and Fox still has some remaining properties.
The "acting was too flat" critic in her movie I will NEVER understand because that is a clear sign that those who think that were NOT paying attention to the dialogue in the opening act. Carol Danvers were part of an elite force for years where they would chastise any member for showing too much emotion. Being emotional was prohibited given their work and they see it as a sign of weakness. That movie was her origin story, thus it makes sense for her to have little emotion for most of the film and as time passes in Infinity War and Endgame for her character to display a more healthy amount of emotion. However, she is still a soldier and a warrior, and normally fights alone as she has adventures throughout the galaxy. So she's nevee going to be as emotional as a protagonist who has multiple teammates to worry about. Thus, such a critic on her performance in the first film makes no sense whatsoever. Additionally, Hollywood is ver sexist and I think a lot of bashing for the movie A Wrinkle in Time was unwarranted. I enjoyed that movie greatly, and although I remember having some grievances they were not many. Lastly, I think the actress says some dumb things in her interviews when conversing with her colleagues. She has been shown to be a bit socially awkward. Still, I don't judge her too harshly for this. So while yes I think she deserves some critics, as to all actors, I think only 15 to 20% of the critics are deserved. Far far less than everything you hear from the toilet, which is the internet.
Hollywood is very sexist that they have multiple female led super hero movies. Like no other film industry has. Also her movies are criticed mainly due to uninteresting plots
While they didn’t gender swap the character Carol was playing, they did gender swap the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell. Also, the flat acting was a part of the story. They forced emotion out of her. The moments of levity from her is her real personality coming through.
It’s pretty clear they were talking about the actress - OP edited his og comment to be less hateful- but sure, considering you have comments defending the actress and recognise the misogyny that’s usually spewed her way it’s interesting that you decided to attack someone defending her as well. I really liked Captain Marvel. She acts how a girl who lost her memory and is being brainwashed by aliens to not feel things would act. She acts how someone re-acclimating to a normal life would act. She’s not “flat” she’s just been trained to not feel emotion.

Monica Rambeau (currently Photon) was Captain Marvel after Mar-vell died. They didn’t gender swap her to bring in female audiences, they simply decided not to have the original character that went by the name Captain Marvel in the comics, who was male. Carol Danvers is the seventh character in the comics who has gone by the name Captain Marvel. The only gender swapping related to the Captain Marvel name that they did in the MCU is the character of Mar-Vell, who was a male Kree Military officer in the comics and first to go by the name Captain Marvel, whereas in the MCU, they made Mar-Vell a female Kree scientist. They basically just skipped over the first six Captain Marvel characters and while I sort of agree that she was meant to bring in more female fans to the MCU, they didn’t go out of their way to gender swap to do so; they simply decided to bring in one of the strongest female characters from the comics in order to do so.

Brie is a good actress just outside blockbuster. I mean, she won an Oscar for her performance in Room. But at the same time, she did these problems to herself. And certain blockbuster roles, most notably Carol Danvers, often waste her talent.
In Marvel mythology, Captain Marvel is the legacy of Mar-vell. Carol was his girlfriend and got her powers straight from him, becoming Ms Marvel. Monica Rambeau had nothing to do with him, and was named CM only for retaining copyright on the name. Carol was the right choice.
It’s actually crazy how most of the Captain Marvel legacy is a giant joke -1st guy was created to rip sales away from DC, then quickly killed off -then Monica then stole his name despite having nothing to do with him, just to retain copyright -While all that’s happening, Carol constantly needed to reinvent her persona just to stay mildly interesting, until 2012 when Marvel knew they needed a “strong powerful independent womyn” to rival Wonder Woman and Jean Grey at the movies, so they gave her the name and made comics they didn’t believe in, because they knew movies are where the money really is And now… all this
Oh my gosh in the comics carol was captain marvel’s sidekick but she eventually took on the name captain marvel herself when the original died but it’s not like the mcu hasn’t changed stuff like that before
Her character wasn't gender swapped, they did it to a different character in the movie named Mar-vell. This character was originally a man in the comics and they gender swapped him for no real reason, which was kind of stupid. Brie Larson says a lot of dumb things but over all she seems kind of nice .
She did have a flat acting in "Captain Marvel" but it significantly improved in "Infinity War" and "Endgame". I guess she needed more time to get in the shoes of the character. I'm looking forward to see "The Marvels".
She was barely in either of those. Her acting in Captain Marvel was perfect for the role and really fun. Some other commenter pointed out many people don’t understand subtlety and it shows. Her chemistry with Nick Fury was fantastic and so fun.
She's the same character Rogue latched on to for so long she put her in a coma and permanently took her ability to fly and have super strength back in the 90s. No gender change was involved.

I like her. A lot in fact. I think she did a great job. To be clear I know people too and for the most part they’re profoundly judgmental. I suspect much of the dislike comes from the kind of paternalistic outrage we get from the likes of Shapiro and from people that mourn the passing of hate monster Rush Limbaugh.
She was great in Room, and I think everyone telling her how great she was inflated her ego to the point she became completely insufferable. You played yourself, Brie.
Brie Larson’s racism aside, Captain Marvel’s character is more of a B movie power fantasy for the easily amused. An interesting character would actually be morally challenged and not self-pitying the way she is Dumb fun maybe, but not… anything close to actual heroism. For it to be heroism, she needs to have actual limits to persevere past. Like Sarah Conner and Ripley. She needs to have self-reflection.
What I love about her is that she is so empowered and calm... Her character portrays feminism itself.. she may not have the most fans or as much as fans scarlet witch does but her character is going to build into a better one... And also Captain marvel is also a girl in the comics...

Once again, an actor being blamed for the nonsensical scripts that sabotage an otherwise career making role.
She literally the producers 😂😂
The comics had Carol Danvers take up the role prior to Infinity War, so this hate is largely unfounded, particularly the whole “changing the gender of a character”. Like Supergirl wasn’t the first gender swapped character, or Batwoman, or any other Female version of a Male Superhero!
@@RedDragonForce2 since when supergirl were a men in the comics?? Doesn't matter anyway her movie Ms marvel flo hard on box office lmao

Carol Danvers was always a woman. Captain marvel on the other hand was not always a woman but regularly was
For me it's Ms.

Yeah if there was a sea of articles claiming everyone hates me I’d have an attitude towards everybody too
Correction she did not play a gentleman Captain Marvel. The character you are thinking of is the woman in her flashback who is the Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers took the name Captain Marvel a few years ago and before she was called Miss Marvel
Dude she acted amazingly and captain Marvel is my fav Marvel movie bc of her
An interesting character would actually be morally challenged and not self-pitying the way she is
Dumb fun maybe, but not… anything close to actual heroism. For it to be heroism, she needs to have actual limits to persevere past. Like Sarah Conner and Ripley. She needs to have self-reflection.
I love Brie Larson and I think she was an awesome Captain Marvel.
You either know absolutely nothing about the comic history of this character, or you're deliberately trying to garner fake outrage.
What I love about her is that she is so empowered and calm... Her character portrays feminism itself.. she may not have the most fans or as much as fans scarlet witch does but her character is going to build into a better one... And also Captain marvel is also a girl in the comics...
I LOVE HER ACTING💖💖💖
Lol MCU fanboy
Personally loved Captain Marvel while others are complaining just because she's "too non-chalant" but lets be honest if captain marvel was a man no one would complain about anything 😤
she is my fav..
I think she did an okay job as Captain Marvel she wouldn’t have been my first choice to portray Captain Marvel.
EVERYONE doesn't hate Brie Larson. I like her work and I like her portrayal of Captain Marvel. And if some so-called "fans" are butt-hurt over some of her comments, that's their problem. 👎👎👎😏😏😏
Do you remember that God awful Charlie's Angels reboot? Feminist director said it was made by women, for women, then blamed men when it tanked because they didn't go out to see it. Anything Feminism touches turns into steaming hot garbage.
She's not going anywhere, so people can hate her as much as they want.
I love her she's a great actress I have no idea what anyone's talking about hating her she played the character very well and I see it like this if a man could do it so can a woman anything you can do I can do better😂❤❤❤❤😂
Don't hate her, hate the person that changed the gender of the character. She was just doing her job.
And, she was a snobby bich off camera. There's that too.
United States of Tara was the show. It was the first I saw of Brees acting. She was good in it and toni collete is brilliant.
They did not change the gender; they used one SPECIFIC version of Captain marvel..... Get it right
LOVE HER!!!!
