Glad taamu got to play he was a good back up for mahomes and helped the practice team learn Lamar Jackson's style. Looks like the best QB in the USFL ATM
Just needs to be faster on the reads tho a lot of guy where open and he throw to late so they were able to cut off some of the passes to pick it off, without him reading slow they could have easily had 30 points today and they probably would have never scored a point
Keep in mind, this was week 1. The rest of the games in the home fields should look a little better. How do you beat watching a football game for $10 in 2022? Hell, parking for a NFL game is more than that!
Having teams travel was out of the leagues budget, so making every game be played in the same location makes the most sense. It's not going to be in a big city because the costs of using Hard Rock stadium in Miami, or SoFi stadium in LA, or MetLife stadium in New York for 60 games is going to be way too expensive for a startup league. They have to negotiate with places that have adequate facilities at bargain prices. Birmingham honestly just fits, the stadium is new and they probably got it for super cheap.
It’s been good to see the return of USFL., for sure! Birmingham might have been the best available revenue wise, so I can understand if they’re trying to keep their expenses down so they can maintain the league.
@@dedratrs I agree using those big stadiums are going to cost to much and probably can't get them filled.... but there are more football stadiums in all of those locations that would be perfect and MUCH cheaper. Do Birmingham, Tampa, Atlanta, New Orleans, Nashville, etc. There are plenty of decent to big cities in a localized area that would allow you to travel for cheap. Right now they are all pretty spread out.

Tampa Bay Bandits you don’t know how much of a throwback they are we talking late 80’s early 90’s I use to go to there games when I was a kid great to see the Tradition still alive
I know it’s bad. People are going to get the idea that it’s not popular and it may not be. The only way to really tell that though is for each team to play in their home stadium.
On a business standpoint ppl.must understand football is the most expensive sport to start and maintain financially its just not the easy for teams to get financial backing unless you have multiple investors constantly putting out .when a person not the one putting out 100s of thousands its easy to say what xyz should be doing ..sponsors and solid investors can pro long any league
Florida native so I guess go bandits!! 😂 I do fucks with this league so far considering these teams had only a 3 week mini camp. It's easier to put together a defense last minute than installing an offense on short notice.
Not true at all. All zone coverages play completely different depending on the staff, so offense is easier to put together on short notice. You won’t have a ton of repertoire as far as plays but a WR knows how to run a slant, post, dig, corner, etc. A corner hasn’t played with the safety on his side for long so they’re both going to expect different things from each other. Same thing with LB’s and corners.
@@andrewgygi1608 All composed of the same routes. All you need to know is 9 different routes as a receiver, a couple of pass blocking schemes and a few running schemes as a lineman/RB/TE and you have an entire playbook. Defense is completely different. There is no, “play the flat” without a defined flat because the flat consists of the entire sideline from the LOS to the endzone. It’s why the pro-bowl is so high scoring every year. In addition to the soft-ass tackling, it’s way easier to put together a good offense than a good defense. A good QB sees something, and he can make up a play on the spot using route tree numbers (ie: Trips Left 9719 for a traditional smash concept out of trips). You can’t do that on defense. You can say, “play a more shallow flat”, or “play deeper in the flat” but without experience in your defensive system, the corner will have no idea how deep the safety is going to pickup, and the safety is going to have no idea how far the corner is going to drop. Same thing with LB’s, they won’t know how far a corner will match a slant until he picks up. All comes with time and can be easily abused by any good QB on the spot. Doesn’t take a huge playbook or even a playbook at all.
@@ethanauringer8304 You can literally make the same argument in the reverse. Defense all you have to know is where you are responsible for, but there is no "run a slant" because the QB needs to know how you run your slant, how deep you're going to take it, are you going to stop before you hit the middle, etc,. Then you get into if your X is running a slant and your why is running an out, they have to understand the concept so the Y knows to slide under the slant and not create traffic for the wide out. All a linebacker needs to know is hook to curl, flats, or man. Offense is way more complex.
This whole Hubbs Stadium situation ain’t working for the rest of the league except it stallions each team needs her own home stadium to get some people in the stands because football is pretty good I think this league is going to make it they can get some people in the stands

I would love to see an exhibition game, Detroit Lions vs any USFL team. Maybe these teams will get better, but so far it looks like it would be an absolute bloodbath.
The Maulers played better than the score showed. Just watching the highlights, it seems that opportunities were squandered. It's a learning curve and the Maulers will do better.
The game was originally scheduled for Sunday but was canceled due to the weather. So they played the game Monday evening. A lot of people didn’t get off work until 5:00 pm. And a lot of people had to go to work. That’s why you see no fans in the stadium
I was just watching Pat McAfee Clips about USFL not being very good, while I don’t know about Football as he and his crew do. I think it’s pretty fun. The Kick Off camera angle was weird and it makes the game look more low budget like someone running taking videos from a smartphone. The quality of football is similar to D1 College, however with the lack of fans it felt a lot like a game between two small D1 colleges. I liked what I saw so far. The Defense is going to be ahead of offense this first year of USFL which is rare for football as the game is so offense friendly these days. The D on both teams were playing with everything they got.
Loved every game Week 1 (more football in my life is definitely something I want) but man, I'm worried about the league! $10 tickets and there's probably less than a hundred people there 😬
To be fair it was Easter Weekend which I think made a big difference in attendance, and they did pull in at peak, more than 3.5 million viewers, which beat any game from the 2020 XFL season, I think USFL has an actual shot to stick around for a bit, but we shall see.
as a raiders fan i almost feel inclined to root for the maulers because of their coach but man that offense was rough and i dont think they have the pass rush to be carried by defense alone. Hoping things end up better for them in the season.

I watched taamu in the SEC. He still pretty really accurate but he still hasn't fixed his problem. He has a bad tendency to force the ball into the middle instead of checking it down or throwing it away. If he could fix that, he could make another run in the nfl in my opinion
The football looks pretty good. But they need to do some Chilli dog give aways, get some hot cheerleaders, country singers and rap stars out there. To have nobody in the stands is ridiculous.
The league just started and it's already a happy day seeing Pittsburgh lose. I imagine the USFL head honchos aren't happy that the Pittsburgh coach has already given the league a black eye.

After doing some research, im pretty sure in year 2(if it makes it that long, hopefully) they’ll have some teams still in bham but others will play at their respective stadiums. And then in year 3(once again if it lasts that long) everyone will be in their own stadiums. My guess is they’re doing this because the league is new and they’re still trying to scrounge up some $$ so they’re limiting how much they have to travel to save on expenses. I live here and will definitely do my best to support the league because it’s definitely fun to watch, but the best we all can do is keep showing love and keep the ratings for it up high!
5:15 I’m all for visors being worn in helmets, but if it hinders your ability to see a good pass in a game, I’d suggest they work on their game more instead of looks because this play was a touchdown if he wasn’t blind lmfao
I 100% agree. I was actually livid seeing that play, Ta'amu placed that ball in the damn bread basket and you can't even track it? Disrespecting a lot of number 11's with that play bro.
The USFL is having serious kicker issues and I don't understand why. There are how many power 5 universities in the U.S. each of them with decent to great kickers who are at least consistent? How is it that you can't find at least a decent kicker? There have been WAY to many missed field goals. I can understand universities having issues. But not pro. There are to many good kickers and to few pro teams to have issues finding a good kicker.
Maybe those kickers are NFL hopefuls seeing as how there's more money and stability involved with the big league. Once they get passed up or cut in the NFL then you'll see them poor into the USFL or even XFL
Maybe... but that seems hard to believe. 1... your a kicker. The odds of you getting hurt are low so the USFL seems to only benefit you. Giving you good experience and a decent pay check. As well as letting NFL teams see your in game abilities. This may make sense for more physical positions.... but kicker. I don't know. That seems like a long shot.
We ask for football, Victors gives us football. Now we just need to sell some tickets and make these guys enough money for gas. --- thanks for the upload. ---
