Mailbag : If oreogon wins it all it will be the greatest college football season of all time . Change my mind . The number of games, the opponents we will have to beat.. non bias greatest season of all time..go ahead.. change my mind
I agree, I don’t think it’s comparable to any other college season of all time. Basically playing an entire pre 17 game nfl season and going undefeated 16-0 to win it all and winning 7 top 25 matches in one season
Man I'm so greatful I got to watch this season with my dad... We've been life long Duck fans from Bend. This year will forever be in our hearts! This means more than football to another of us.... Go Ducks 🦆 🦆🦆🦆🦆
I am glad we have the tough path. That way if and when we win, no one has a thing to say about it. We 100% proved there was not a team in the nation that could beat us. I believe Lanning has created a culture of maturity that says, "bring it on, we want the challenge." I love it. 😊
Lanning has the toughness mentality right in the forefront of the teams mind. Jordan James said at the end of his TV interview after the B1G Championship game that they're "the most physical team in the country" Great sign of a Championship team for sure
I like the fact that Oregon has one of the, if not THE hardest playoff schedule. All season I’ve been hearing from SEC zealots “Oregon’s strength of schedule sucks” “any team from the SEC conference would smack Oregon” Oregon now has one of them opportunities Dan Lanning loves talking about to silence the haters with a best 2 out of 3 against Ohio state, then taking on and beating Texas (for the SEC d-riders) and then assuming UGA makes it, Georgia in the Natty. We’re talking about one of the greatest college football seasons to date, this schedule enables that possibility 😎💯🦆🦆
SEC fan boys are living in the past. TX got the 2nd easiest path and they have 0 wins over teams that finished in the top 25 abd the only 2 games they had against a playoff team they lost. These teams were seeded to favor a certain matchup and oregon wasn't one if those teams. No matter it will feel better to spoil it all!
Good point. Oregon has beaten 3 teams that are in the CFP. Boise State, Ohio State and Penn State. Who else has done that? Alabama? They lost to a barely bowl eligible team and a team that isn’t even that.
@@DuckRon626 Georgia beat 3 teams in the playoffs. Texas twice, Tennessee, and Clemson. And Texas and Tennessee are better than PSU. And Clemson is better than Boise State. OSU is up for debate, don’t really know how good that team is, too wishy washy. So what Georgia did is more impressive.
Spencer, you were mostly right about Nikko Reed’s interception. Great technique overall. But he DID have a small grasp on the receiver’s jersey front. Good no call, given the offensive holdings that weren’t called, etc. great play by Nikko. Sometimes it’s about knowing what the refs are letting you get away with.
I think it’s too soon with this format to shit on it. The way the teams shaped out just do happen to not go in our favor. Next year the 1 seed could very well be the easier path. Plus, I like the hardest path, if we win the natty there will be no doubt that we are the undisputed kings of college football.
The flaw isn't just the playoff structure, it's the SEC bias. Texas didn't deserve the 5th seed in a bracket that includes a virtual home game in the semis. They didn't beat anybody this year and should be punished for it. The problem is both in the structure and the seeding.
Thanks, Spencer for this in depth analysis of the instant CLASSIC B1G CHAMPIONSHIP GAME . . . I can watch College Football with more knowledgeable eyes, thanks to your podcasts . . . Mens BB, broke my Heart last night . . . Could have been a perfect Weekend . . . Go DUCKS . .
Penn st fan here. I agree w a lot of your points. You guys easily have the best offense iv seen this year. I hope we get to play you guys again for the natty
The funny thing about Nikko Reed is that I distinctly remember certain Duck fans clamoring for him to be one of the guys to exit in the transfer portal back in the spring.
Really? Inalways thought Nikko was cool. Sometimes you need a year or two in a system. Now Dontae Manning? Yeah..lol. but Dontae has been solid this year
James been on a pitch count I believe.. I think Coach Lanning has been outstanding in incorporating the backups.. we need James and Tez to win it all this year
@@lrod2470 Dontae was another one. Certain fans want to push players out and want to give up on them as if they will never develop. Manning had his moments last season just like Nikko. They have both played vital roles this season and allowed others to redshirt and develop.
I am happy with this outcome. As Spencer points out, lots and lots of teams who were double-digit underdogs rose up to beat the chalk. The games get decided on the field, and we have one less field to conquer. And we have more time to scout and plan for identified opponents. Good for us. Go ducks.
As someone who has watched college football over six decades I strongly feel that Gary Danielson was a pathetic homer for Penn State. He sent very few accolades towards Oregon throughout the evening, this is not my idea of a professional color guy in the biz. Truly sad…
27:38 Love how Spencer calls Big 10 out on negligence re ignoring the Penn St alum's status as a figure very closely and passionately affiliated with U Oregon displayed on the jumbotron. Standards decline naturally unless enough people value the benefits of upholding standards enough to want to enforce those standards. What's best is if we value the standards so much that we internalize enforcement and thereby instinctualize standards enough so that upholding them just comes naturally instead of feeling forced, and definitely without having to be policed by others. And what a year to be a Ducks college football fan! Plus, the fact is that upholding super high standards of excellence is what got the team to 13-0, so it seems right and the naturally good thing to do to give some shouts out to upholding high standards (which implies that we should give the exact opposite of a shout out when those same standards get violated)
Let's not be naive. It was made to make Oregon have to work harder. East coast bias is still a thing and it's in effect toward that team out West. Also, that side of the bracket has bigger interest and market share possibilities. As long as there is no obvious rigging going on in the games, Oregon, which is already battle tested, could very well prevail.
Spencer, best fsct check before go off on Ty Burrell issue. My concern was Danielsen horribly PSU biased to extent calling out non called perceived penalties
Potentially having the #1 seed playing a semi final true road game in Texas against #3 seed Texas is by far the worst thing…and it’s not what almost anyone is talking about. F Em…FEBU🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆

My guess is that reseeding after first round would make it difficult for the fans to plan ahead. If Tennessee and Ohio state both know they’re going to Pasadena with a win they can plan ahead and cancel if they lose. Could be completely wrong, personally think it does punish Oregon. All they can do is keep winning.
I’ve thought a lot about it and to be the best you have to beat the best. If we win all 3 games no one can say we had an easy pass. It’ll truly be undisputed undefeated champs if these guys are ready to make a run.
Nick Sabian called out the #1 seed has the hardest path error by the CFB. You place man in charge of a simple task, simple hate and bias will always be reflected in their work.
With a bye week you should make up an all time oregon team based on single game performances. For example my runningback would be Barner from the USC game when he ran for over 300. B1G championship Tez would probably be one of my receivers.
Add a good portion of "crazy-a__ madman" to Jordan James, and you end up with another Marshawn Lynch! He's got all the physical stuff, and he's got the aggressiveness. And he may have a good measure of craziness, but just not quite as much as Lynch. Maybe some Skittles?
Spencer, do you have any idea why Evan Stewart was not utilized in the championship game (just once and he dropped the ball) and Traeshon very little. Also, after doing great in the 1st half, why was Kenyon Sadiq not utilized in the 2nd half? Thanks!
I started to think Stewart was injured, and wasn't even in the game. I kept expecting a hay-maker the whole game. Clearly the wide receiver screen wasn't working! Go Ducks 🦆
Mailbag: game planning for two opponents (OSO or Tenn) is far easier than 8. So I’m not sure a re-seeding after the first round is best. Can you talk to the advantage that Oregon will have with 3.5 weeks of preparation vs 1.5 weeks of preparation our opponent will have in the quarterfinals. With 3.5 weeks the staff can game plan for both teams. Go Ducks!
Trust me Spencer you weren’t the only one to notice the ty alum graphic and questioned it too but no one around me seemed to really give much care to it

Wouldn’t it be something for Oregon to now beat Tennessee, Georgia, and then Texas? To beat the three Blue Bloods from the Big 10 and the three top dogs from the SEC in one season would be a remarkable accomplishment.
So there was a catch that looked good for PSU in the 2nd half, but the refs called it incomplete.. what was the deal there? If it was a catch, why didn't Franklin challenge it?
Spencer, absolutely correct about the goal tend that was called on the court, then reversed when the video absolutely showed the ball having passed its apex and just barely starting to descend while still above the rim with a chance to go in when it was touched by the defender. Textbook goaltending. And since the call on the court was goal tending, they needed clear evidence it was not to overturn that ruling. They definitely did not from any view shown, nor did they explain what they thought they saw that would have supported reversal. I have to assume incompetence to be charitable, common bias to be neutral, or payola to be cynical. The refs took 2 points from Oregon that would have taken this game to overtime after that bankshot prayer of a desperation 3-pointer by UCLA. BIG 10 refs failed. I always thought PAC-12 refs were more incompetent than those in the BIG 10, but now I see the BIG 10 refs may also just be more corrupt. Prove me wrong, refs. I sure saw it in the Oregon-Ohio State football game when they didn’t even bother to review an early takeaway by Oregon when they allowed a hurry-up play to get them off the hook, resulting quickly in an OSU touchdown. Oregon should have won the game by 8 instead of 1, and there would have been no need for Lanning’s brilliant 12-men on the field play to run off a few extra seconds which resulted in a never before seen mid-season rule change.
Absolutely insane the path they gave to Oregon. No reason they should reward the undefeated conference champion the hardest path to the final by far. Almost along the lines of the announcers for the big 10 championship game, they just don’t want the ducks to win.
I’m starting to hope we rematch with Ohio State. We’ve ran through the whole Big Ten and know they’re style of play. Oregon is capable of defeating any team but would prefer not to play SEC ball when we’re so clearly dominant in the Big Ten.
Spencer, Burrell left UO before graduating and then graduated from SOU in 1993. He then got his Masters from PSU. This is what is posted on the UOAA website. He is though a die hard Duck supporter.
This is the kind of idiocy that results from a format that pretends all conferences are equal and grants the top 4 seeds to conferences champs when everyone knows that will almost never be the best 4 teams. Under this format, the weakest teams will often be the 12th, 4th and 3rd seeds. Which means the 5th seed has the easiest path. The #1 seed SHOULD have the easiest path and play the lowest seed in every round because they've earned it.
RE: FBS seeding and the Ducks getting screwed under the current line up. Take a look at the FCS playoffs - maybe we should have them do our seeding for the big boys! Second round games, seeds 1 thru 8 all won so the FCS has it figured out.
I know Burrell is a huge Duck fan, but according to his Wikipedia he got his Bachelors at Southern Oregon University & his Masters at Penn State. Easy mess-up for the B1G production.
his wikipedia also says "Burrell is a self-described lifelong fan of the Oregon Ducks, Portland Trail Blazers, New York Mets, and the Los Angeles Rams." So certainly an overlook on the B1G's part.
Chances are they're still going to have to play one of those teams. The Ducks get an extra week to prepare for the game because of their bye. That will give them an advantage. If they win that game all the teams after that should be easier. I actually like it better. I don't care about how far they make it into the playoff. The Ducks are passed those days. They are in it to win it all.
I’d rather play Ohio State again than Tennessee. Tennessee D line and running game is no joke. Ohio States O line doesn’t scare me. I’m glad Notre Dame, Georgia, and Penn State are on the other side of the bracket. I don’t think we got screwed…
Will Oregon fans show up at the Rose Bowl? I live in Florida and was thinking of flying out to the game, but I would rather wait for the Championship in Atlanta.
Dan has building this team up for this moment I said it before if the Oline can protect DG this team can beat anyone in the nation idc who it is I’m okay with our playoff run being Harder then most because “what tf can they say when we win those games” NOT A FKING THINGS!!!!! Imagine beating Ohio State TWICE in one season or beating Tennessee then beating Clemson/Texas and then possibly UGA in the Natty we will be on some Thanos level type energy…..Inevitable
Getting a bye in the first round is huge . Whomever Oregon plays in the quater finals will have players with injuries from the first round . The semifinal game Oregon should have an easier time with as Arizona State , Clemson , or Texas are all not as good as Ohio State or Tennessee. The Final will be the big test against Georgia.
I do think that Dan Lanning cares; however, he just won't say it. BTW, not only will Oregon have to play Texas if they beat the winner of OSU/Tennessee, but they will have to play Texas in Dallas (which sucks)!
Jordan reads the line of scrimmage incredibly better than Whittingham!!! James sees the field, makes the cut and uses his speed and strength to gain us at least 4-5 yards a carry. However, Whittingham, often times gets stoned at the line of scrimmage because he's smaller and doesn't process the gaps quickly enough. I think it's a patience and timing thing. I like that Riggs kid! He looks explosive and sees the holes!!!
@@officialraffsmaxen1056 Wittington is also the one who can plant his foot, cut and run. I don't necessarily think it's his fault he gets blocked. Our D-line just was not the greatest vs PSU. If you're going to continue to run into the mouth of the lion you become very predictable, and that's what Stein kept calling.
What goes unnoticed is that on that fair catch miss call, that should’ve been a penalty as well once the refs corrected it. You are not allowed to call fair catch and then run with it
This is basically what I immediately was thinking. Oregon is #1 and will most likely have to play Texas and Ohio State. Both those teams have a high chance of winning the natty outside of Oregon and Georgia. I was hoping at least ohio state and or Texas would be on the georgia side of the tree.
Kingston lopa might need more snaps bc the safeties have been lacking all year. Tj ward even has noticed it. Savage esp has not impressed. Where is the punishing big hitter who flys down to help fill gaps or the ball hawk who snags everything deep?
The Big12, without any marque programs, is hard to judge teams vs teams in the Big10 or SEC. It USED to be a Big12 team would beat Texas or Oklahoma and everyone would know that they are for real and have a win vs a team that recruits with the big boys. But now, a conf win is just a win against a team full of 3 stars. I could be wrong, but I think Az St is going to get slaughtered like the way Hawaii had that one good year and got run over by Georgia that year in the bowl game - not even close. With conf realignment, you can have pretty mediocre teams in the playoffs from ACC, Big12 and group of 5 (or 6 coming soon). Inclusion has its price. Right now, I think bama, Miami, Ole Miss and South Carolina could beat some of the teams in the playoffs.
3 weeks off is not upside when you have momentum. Auto bids end up being a penalty for good teams, and a reward to crap conferees. PSU used their bit Te to clear out our MLB's then ran it to the 2d level where all but one of our DB's is undersized.
The first round of the playoffs is a great group of games. Just, why did they set it up so WE would play Ohio st again?? C'mon playoff committee, can't we get a new opponent?? Bland!!!
The first round bye is earned by the conf champions because they had to play an extra game at the end of the regular season and they won a competitive game. The loser of the conf championship game is penalized by having to play one extra game than everyone else in the playoffs. Is Texas worse than Tennessee? No, but now they are beat up. The conf championship game messes up the seeding for the playoffs.
You can't just say ""Texas" while ignoring the fact that it would it pretty much be a home-field for Texas. So if Texas rolls Clemson and ASU, they will have what is practically a home game with momentum and fans behind them. It's complete BS..
They should in all fairness be playing at Eugene. The Ducks won they get home field advantage. But this league knows nothing of fairness and so be it. Our team will prevail, the Ducks have stood tall and will achieve their goal.!.(:;) 😊
QUESTION Spencer: Is there anyway to write/text/email a complaint about the announcers and their clear biases as they call the game? In this case the BIG Championship game? These guys are very knowledgeable but It's not professional and it's highly annoying. Comment on the game/plays without clearly indicating who you favor please.
Did you hear there was a player only meeting between Ohio state players and Ryan Day? Idk if it true, but it was reported on by a page called DJ The Sports Blerg.
Need to shout out Kenyon Sadiq for his hurdle over the defender on his way to the first score of the game.

@monicabraunschweiger.3404 if that is the case PSU WR and QB not questioning it? That would BE totally on them. Communication is the key there.
It would be great to see you do a "second segment sip" drinking apple juice or iced tea from a Jack Daniels bottle.
Spencer, Burrell left UO before graduating and then graduated from SOU in 1993. He then got his Masters from PSU. This is what is posted on the UOAA website. He is though a die hard Duck supporter.
Guess poor Spencer not as passionate on facts as he indicated
I think committee looked at the Ducks middling strength of schedule and decided we need to make up for that.
If the results went chalk first round, and you re-seat, Oregon still plays Ohio State.
Oregon gets a week off and the Ducks arent afraid of Oh-My-O Skate...Give us the best teams please. I hate people who are afraid. 🦆
Damn dog. Over a minute before the video starts…
I wonder if we get to see Jahlil in the post szn
When did Oregon's band expand to have a Napoleon Dynamite-style Happy Hands Club?
I know, it's embarrassing!! And so are our band uniforms or lack there of.
Witthington is really good in open space. Jordan is a true hard nosed running back
@@officialraffsmaxen1056 Wittington is also the one who can plant his foot, cut and run.
We got hosed no doubt but I think Lanning and this team are at their best against the best
Kingston lopa might need more snaps bc the safeties have been lacking all year. Tj ward even has noticed it. Savage esp has not impressed. Where is the punishing big hitter who flys down to help fill gaps or the ball hawk who snags everything deep?
Oregon matches up better with Ohio state than Tennessee so gimme the Buckeyes RD 2
Go Ducks!
Best punt was Luke Dunne
Febu!!!
The defense isn’t tough enough to a win a national title. I don’t see a nasty, angry, defense.
You can't just say ""Texas" while ignoring the fact that it would it pretty much be a home-field for Texas. So if Texas rolls Clemson and ASU, they will have what is practically a home game with momentum and fans behind them. It's complete BS..
They can assign that semi final to the orange bowl I think if Texas wins
@@Duckswag87 That is new to me and would change things a lot. Hopefully that is the case. Thanks for the info!
They should in all fairness be playing at Eugene. The Ducks won they get home field advantage. But this league knows nothing of fairness and so be it. Our team will prevail, the Ducks have stood tall and will achieve their goal.!.(:;)
😊
Mailbag: a bunch of fans are crying that the no calls only went oregon’s way. When you rewatch the game can you confirm that this was the case?
Damn it. These committee jerks should get it together. Stop screwing Oregon!
Id say penn states path is harder because of that extra game. No game is guaranteed in football
Bruh ain’t no way we have the hardest way as the 1 seed then look wt Georgia’s path
