    The reason why you won’t find black rice at every restaurant is because the dried mushrooms are hard to find in the US and it’s hard to import it from Haiti. They sell a tablet that mimics it, but most authentic restaurants won’t bother with the fake ness. Overall, thank you for trying and enjoying our cuisine. We take pride and in our cooking despite the side eye😃. Good constructive criticism

      Hello Frosted Purple, I see. I’ve heard that the Djon Djon mushrooms are very coveted, now I understand. I know that Maagi makes the cubes.The black rice is just so good, it’s too bad the mushrooms are so hard to find. Anyway, we ended up finding black rice in our other Haitian Food video. I’ll add the link. Take a look. ua-cam.com/video/wa_w1vG5i44/v-deo.html Thank you so much for watching and for your information.

      Every single Haitian restaurant where I'm from in the US (Boston MA) serves black rice, and djon djon mushrooms are common in tropical supermarkets

    Haitian cuisine is the best cuisine in West Indies. It is completely different that of this of Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Dominque , Cuba. Etc. Haitian food is very flavorful. This is no strong spices, no strong flavors. It’s just good.
    I haven’t meet anyone who tries Haitian food and claim not too like it.

    You're absolutely right about customer service. Hope they're watching. The pikliz is for your fried plantains and fried meat. The sauce is for your rice as well as the legumes which is a mixture of chayote squash, eggplant, cabbage, spinach, carrots and meat (oxtail, beef, beef feet, goat). Thank you for appreciating our food.

    You guys prayed at the beginning of the video. That's very admirable. Sorry about the bad customer service. Also, you should try some of our soups/broths: bouyon, soup jomou, soup pen, soup tomat. Some dishes you may not get everyday at the restaurant or at all; you might experience them at a Haitian celebration or Church instead. And then there's the breakfast food: the hot cereals, cornmeal, etc. I wish you the best with your food discoveries. God bless!

    Great video thumbs up. I had tasted Haitian food only at a friend's home, LOVE it, it's really impossible to find restaurants where I live ( Haitian, that is ).
    What I really appreciate you mentioning is that a lot of restaurant owners can be rude in different communities, I went to an Ethiopian restaurant with a friend and I enjoyed everything except the "canned" greens and the stank eye they kept giving me.
    Many more people would eat in these types of restaurants if they were not afraid of being treated badly.

    • @BBReviewsIt
      @BBReviewsIt  3 роки тому

      Hi Pat, we’re so glad that you like Haitian food. It really is delicious. The restaurants can be difficult to find depending on where you live. We just wanted to talk about our real experience. I think many of us want to experience different foods and it can be intimidating at times to walk into an establishment if you feel you aren’t welcome. We hope that even if we change one restaurant’s approach to how they treat their other customers, it was worth it. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

  • @theotanis633

    "Pate" comes from the French, "Pâté," which comes from "Pâte" (dough). The English version in the islands would be "patty," like a Jamaican beef patty.

    • @BBReviewsIt
      @BBReviewsIt  4 роки тому

      Hi Theo, thanks for that. I’ve never heard that explanation. The only thing is, the dough is a puff pastry and not a Pate Brisee. I’ve heard that the Jamaican beef patty comes from the English pasty but not sure about that either. Nigeria has a meat pie as well, and it looks a lot like the English pasty, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they (patty, pate, empanada, etc..) come from the Nigerian meat pie.

      Never knew there was a rule to eating pikliz...
      You can eat it by itself, but normally goes with the griot (fried pork),banan peze (fried plantain), fritay (fried food). Shoot, I know people that mix it with their rice or pretty much everything else they are eating. But goes really well with fried/grilled meats, fried/grilled seafood (chicken, pork, beef, goat, fish, seafood, etc.)

    CAUTION to NonHaitians: Plikliz is NOT meant to be eaten by itself! Please use it sparingly on the other items. DO NOT EAT A SPOONFUL!

      @William Cherubin It was an interesting experience, but we learned that Haitian food is amazing.

    I’m getting lupita vibe from you voice and face, the pikliz is eaten with the Fry meat, plantain and can be eaten with the rice and oh sauce go on the rice. I agree with you on the customer service it seems to be a black thing

      @ The Bridge 54. Thanks for the tip regarding the pikliz and the sauce. We have to have Djon-Djon rice and tassot next time. Bad customer service goes across the board. What other Haitian dishes do you think we should try?

      @@BBReviewsIt you should try Lambi or Cunch in English, take it with white Rice and bean sauce, or try Bouyon or Fritay (spell Freetai) with Akra which are delicious hopefully the customer service will be better next time, Haitian parents tend to be mean as defensive mechanism but very friendly if you open them up with some joke like asking them why are you so mad tho with a smile loll

      @Kenny Cash Thank you so much for your food suggestions. We have to find more Haitian restaurants to go to in order to try these dishes. We fell in love with Haitian food, so I can only imagine how good your food suggestions are. We appreciate you watching and commenting. 🙏🏽

    Too much "PIKLIZ" kills your tastebuds temporarily, at least.
    OK !

    That is not the authentic Haitian paté.

      What is an authentic Haitian patè? I’ve only seen this type of patè in Haitian restaurants. We would love to know, so we can try the real thing.

    These "PÂTÉS" look extremely pale on the inside, and barely golden on the outside.
