As a Mexican Native Indian I love this video!! I've been stringing my peppers on a string and hanging them to dry. It's almost time to grind them. I enjoy making my own. Thank you
Your pepper grimace is like my lemon grimace! Wish I could send you some of my Florida rain. Trying to keep some of my outside orchids from floating away! Always a pleasure to watch your channel!
You can do bell peppers too! Let them grow til red and you’ve got paprika! I like your simplified version, a lot of channels put way too much into CYA statements…just grow it, wash it, dehydrate it til completely dry, grind it, and put it in an airtight jar! We don’t need a 20 min video about what could go wrong, and you delivered! Thank you!
I have been hearing about how hot it is in Texas. Glad to see your garden is surviving the heat and hope you get a great harvest this year. God bless y'all and keep growing
i to have 2 coffee grinders -one for coffee and one for whole spices etc--clean it with dired rice wized around and then wipe it out !! works great!! :)
Wow! Rain? What’s that?? Why don’t you be a peach and send some of that about 500 miles north? I was just thinking about making some chili powder. At least my peppers don’t seem to mind the 112 degree temps too much. 🥵
I'm always glad to see ways to use the fruits and vegetables from the garden. Too often I let the harvest process slip a bit. Sometimes that means I miss the best ripe timing. I welcome any and all ways to help us process and get the best out of our garden's bounty. Thanks!
I still use one of those multi purpose bullet blenders with a spice grinder base. I tend to smoke mine after carmalizing. I often cheat making it because my local Hispanic store put Jals on sale for 2 pounds for a $1. I once got overzealous and bought 10 pounds. That is a lot of peppers. This year at the plant store I found a Purple Jalapeno. It starts Purple and ripens red. Watching you doi g this did bring back memories of inhaling the dust.
Thank you Scott , I have alot of Jalapenos frozen , glad to see I can still dyhdrate them , Plus Datia Hot peppers, facing heaven peppers, Hungarian yellow hot peppers, Cayanne hot peppers & poblanos, I even just succession planted some more also some Hoss tools Mixed Sweet bell peppers , even tho I have about 5 gallon size bags full of different sweet Peppers , Im still getting Ping Tung Eggplants, making all different ways , just harvested 2 beautiful baby cantalopes seeds from Hoss , I have baby Butternut squash from Baker creek coming in - I did pull my cucumbers we were over run with them , My husband took alot to work & other stuff , Using that Camp canopy plus a shade cloth 10x20 feet from amazon has helped alot an our Neiborhood gardeners use them also , But im watering every single day & feed them 1x a week ,like Gary at The Rusted Garden recommends . I sent this video to my oldest son , I thought those Korean chilis were suppose to be very hot ? Ive been looking for the past to make kim chi which I love so much , Mrs nancy from Hollis & Nancy Homestead has many different recipes im gonna try it as a little jar at HEB is now $9.89 . Thank u & God bless you & your family . What will you be planting come fall ? Im thinking of trying cabbage & Broccoli etc....do i have to start transplants in the house or can I direct seed them ? Thank you Mrs Josette - Texas
I asked for a spice grinder for Christmas just for the purpose of grinding my own spices. I made a great jalapeno salt last year that was so good! I gave it away as gifts along with some some other homemade season blends and vanilla. I love seeing what others do to preserve the harvest and powder is a great idea if you have a whole bunch of peppers you don't know what to do with. I'm hoping to make some tomato paste from skins this year also 🙂 Great video!
This year I decided to make paprika powder, so I planted about ten paprika pepper plants. I have the third batch of peppers in the dehydrator now. I bought the same brand of coffee grinder and it does a great job of grinding them to a powder.
In India my mom buys 3 varieties of red chilly namely byadege, guntur, mankattu and dries it in the sun for 2-3 days and take it to grinding mill to make a fine powder . Later we seieve the powder to remove any leftover seeds and store in airtight box. It’s economical and tastes a lot more authentic than store bought contaminated one. 😎
LOVE these videos! Maybe one day I will learn which are which just by looking. I planted both nadapenos and jalapenos but can't tell which are which - so they all go into the cowboy candy. Don't forget to wash your hands!
Exactly why I'm trying to grow lots of peppers, we really liked the one jar of jalapeno powder I made last year. This year a few more varieties and our meals should taste amazing.
I used my air fryer and dehydrated small batches of pods for quite a while and it worked, so it IS possible if you don't have a dehydrator. Just last weekend I ground up my jalapenos.
Your comment "it's not too hot" reminds me of when I was a kid - my father (his whole family also) would always tell us kids "here try this - it's not hot" - it would take the top of our head off!!!
Thx Scott! My Korean pepper plants are pretty tiny yet. Not sure if they will produce before the weather turns. We will see. Appreciate you walking us through the processing of your peppers and especially the taste test. Always informative.
Very Nice Scott! I need to try those Korean peppers (chilies). I had a bumper crop of Sugar Rush Peach peppers last year and dehydrated and ground. Look almost like white pepper and taste good too. Keep growing.
Same way here, except my spice(coffee) grinder has been demoted to egg shell grinder. I still need to replace it however, and my coffee grinder. That grinder has had quite a life. I can just air dry my cayennes because they're so thin.
Now I wish I’d saved more of my serrano harvest from last year! I didn’t know what to do with them because they were way too hot due to the dry hot summer! I did roast a bunch of poblanos and Anaheim though and stacked them in my freezer. So thanks for showing you can thaw and dehydrate them! I’m definitely doing that soon.
I will never forget stringing some little red peppers 🌶️ and not thinking about getting that pepper juice on the threads and then touching my face and eyes! I was in a lot of hurt let me tell ya!! 😮
I LOVE this!! I've been trying to grow peppers that I can dry and make powder with - for cooking. Pasilla Bajio and purple mulata are the two I am focused on this year. I want the powder I can add to a dish and this hit it perfectly. Thank you!
We only do sweet peppers.. and end up using the gross majority for toppings for veggie pizzas and stuff. My poor bell pepper (rest are lunchbox) only made 2 peppers this year. Definitely going to go Ninja next year. Thank you, Scott. I hope you and the family are well. (Including those 4-legged ones.)
Hey Scott, don't drink water after eating peppers. Consume a piece of cheese, a spoon of ice cream or any dairy products to reduce your mouth fires. Also, while watching you grind those peppers, my eyes started burning. Now I wonder why. I string my peppers with upholstery thread and wrap the threads around a hanger and hang them in my hot garage. They take longer to dry, but they dry completely. I like to grind up what I need only when I'm ready to make chili. Thanks for another great video.
Hey Scott this is off topic. But my sister says her tomatoes burn up. She lives in Cedar Springs Texas. What shade cloth would be best for tomatoes in her region in Texas?
Thanks for the video! I want to also make garlic powder and am curious how you clean your grinder? Or is it a dedicated pepper grinder? I did read some suggestions here re brushing out the grinder, or grinding white rice. Would you suggest using the same grinder for other things, or having multiple grinders - yikes!
Hi Scott this is Karen from Ky, this is a great way to get rid of all those peppers, but I have a different question, I need to get more potassium in my diet and beet tops are very high in potassium, Can I grow beet tops this time of year?
This is the one I have: smile.amazon.com/Presto-Dehydro-Electric-Dehydrator-Renewed/dp/B07K1P57ZG/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3VI8NA2E6Q0QB&keywords=presto+dehydrator&qid=1658332667&sprefix=presto+dehy%2Caps%2C146&sr=8-6
Will you show us how to make the goju chain paste. Sorry Google voice but your dad and I know that's wrong but I don't know exactly how to spell it so...
Did you say Phoebe would eat tomatoes? I just discovered my 14-1/2 yo dog is eating my tomatoes. First I was blaming the squirrels until I caught her red handed.. She is blind in one eye and almost completely deaf. But she likes tomatoes!
Good Stuff, Scott! I usually ferment my Cayenne Peppers to make some Louisiana Hot Sauce.
As a Mexican Native Indian I love this video!! I've been stringing my peppers on a string and hanging them to dry. It's almost time to grind them. I enjoy making my own. Thank you
Amelia, I hear you!
Oh that face when you put the jalapeno powder in your mouth . Love it . Thank you for sharing .
Your pepper grimace is like my lemon grimace! Wish I could send you some of my Florida rain. Trying to keep some of my outside orchids from floating away! Always a pleasure to watch your channel!
I love to mix my chili spices in the pot - no store bought chili powder! Cayenne, Garlic, Onion, Black Pepper, and Cumin Make a fine chili!
You can do bell peppers too! Let them grow til red and you’ve got paprika!

Well worth buying a dehydrator and a grinder to make your own spices.
Thank you!! My pepper plants do SO well in my clay soil and I never use them all. I cant believe I never thought about making chile powder...lordy!
i to have 2 coffee grinders -one for coffee and one for whole spices etc--clean it with dired rice wized around and then wipe it out !! works great!! :)

Not my thing but I dehydrated my 2 kinds of mint today. I'll be trying other things like fruit and more herbs! It's all new to me 🌻
Great video!! I like to make my own taco, chili seasonings to stay low carb and avoid hidden sugars, so I’m learning a lot from you!! Thanks!! 👍

I'm not sure on fall planting yet, but certainly some brassicas and root crops.
Thank you Scott, I still have lots of peppers in the freezer from last year. I knew what to do with them now.

lol your right sir one time i used my wifes coffee grinder and i was in the dog house for 2 weeks.never again.i like the way you did this.
You are braver than I. I don’t think I could taste those powders straight.
This year I decided to make paprika powder, so I planted about ten paprika pepper plants. I have the third batch of peppers in the dehydrator now. I bought the same brand of coffee grinder and it does a great job of grinding them to a powder.
Wow I didn’t realize how easy it is to make the powder. Thank you so much for showing us that!!!
I like these videos showing how you use your what you grow.

Yes, thank you! Perfect timing plus, now I know what to do with all those jalepenos I hang dried last year
I really like your videos‼️🙌🏼

You can air dry chicken, shark cartledge (liver, lung, kidneys and hear)beef for Phoebe

This is a great idea! We usually pickle or peppers and make pepper sauce. We’ll need to do pepper powder next time. Thanks for the great video, Scott!
Thank you for answering my question about my zucchini squash I just subscribed I really appreciate you !!!!
Very Nice Scott! I need to try those Korean peppers (chilies). I had a bumper crop of Sugar Rush Peach peppers last year and dehydrated and ground. Look almost like white pepper and taste good too. Keep growing.
Thank you for sharing this recipe! Can’t wait to try it with anything spicy!
Hoping all is well with you Scott. Thank you for this video!!
Thank you, perfect timing for me now I know what I would do with all my peppers 💚 and yes please keep up with this type of videos 👏🏻👏🏻
OMG this is awesome.... and this is what I need to do I have sooo many chillis, and I have Scotch Bonnet ones as well.
I wish I would have grown Cheyenne this year. I did grow Tabasco and waiting to follow your recipe when they ripen. Thanks Scott
Same way here, except my spice(coffee) grinder has been demoted to egg shell grinder. I still need to replace it however, and my coffee grinder. That grinder has had quite a life. I can just air dry my cayennes because they're so thin.
Thanks Scott for this info!
Thanks Scott!
Thanks for the info if I have enough I'm going to do this🌟 I use a grinder for lots of stuff they are great good idea ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you so much for the informative video. I always enjoy watching your videos Scott.

Tks for sharing this
You have a great voice. Looks tasty

I enjoyed this video, and may try making some chili powder too.
Very Easy Thanks for sharing
I was just wondering today about when I would pull my Johnny’s F1 Flames. I’ve never grown them before this year. My reason is for pepper for kimchi 😊
Thank you for this video
Sprinkle a little bit in your eggs before scrambling.
Great video, thanks for the info.
I use a small brush to get every bit of powder out of the grinder
Thanks for the info. But until I learn how to grow peppers I'll have to wait. Not much luck with peppers of any kind.
Thank You!
Say hello to Phoebe for me and make sure you guys stay cool as it sure is hot all across the United States
Hi Scott, are red jalapeños at all milder than green? I have gassed myself out grinding peppers too, paper napkin trick sounds good! Thanks
They are about the same heat, but more flavorful.
@@ScottHead thank you for the he info!!
Could I put one moisturize absorber pack in the jar to keep it from caking up? Thanks
I've never done it but it should work.
Hey Scott this is off topic. But my sister says her tomatoes burn up. She lives in Cedar Springs Texas. What shade cloth would be best for tomatoes in her region in Texas?
I'd start with something that excludes 30% of sunlight.
I just use a cheap 1" paint brush from the hardware store and brush it out. Don't get any taste crossover between herbs and peppers.
@@ScottHead Thank you!
Heart
Was thinking you could put one of those anti caking cylinders from a vitamin bottle in your jar 😊
Hi Scott this is Karen from Ky, this is a great way to get rid of all those peppers, but I have a different question, I need to get more potassium in my diet and beet tops are very high in potassium, Can I grow beet tops this time of year?
You could probably grow beet tops now with some careful watering, but no root development in the heat of summer.
You mentioned your dehydrator. Would you provide a link? It's a lot cheaper than the other's that I've looked at. Thanks.
This is the one I have: smile.amazon.com/Presto-Dehydro-Electric-Dehydrator-Renewed/dp/B07K1P57ZG/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3VI8NA2E6Q0QB&keywords=presto+dehydrator&qid=1658332667&sprefix=presto+dehy%2Caps%2C146&sr=8-6
Wow! Death defying act! 😃
whats the power cost of the dehydrator i have a few pepper plants growing here in the uk i was going to try the sun last week we had 40c 104f
I don't really know what the cost of the power is. So sorry.
Will you show us how to make the goju chain paste. Sorry Google voice but your dad and I know that's wrong but I don't know exactly how to spell it so...
What brand of dehydrator do you use
It appears to be a Presto Dehydro
Yes that's the one.
@@ScottHead thank you

Yes, Phoebe eats tomatoes. She eats almost anything. LOL
Morning. I miss you. How's it going?
🙏🇸🇪🙏
Milk not water!!!👍
No rain for 2 months . Well maybe a drop or 2 . My beans look like snake skins. Garden is horrible
I had to laugh. You wore gloves for protection, then put your finger in to taste, then put your finger by your eye. Sorry, just thought it was funny.
