This show DESTROYED me. These two had such believable chemistry. It was so real. I forgot they weren’t really these characters. It was like feeling bad for watching the personal struggles of two people so in love and hurting so much. I choose to believe Connell either went to NYC and came home to her bc his life had no meaning without his Marianne. Or she just showed up and told him I don’t want to be without you. They were not good apart.
I choose to believe they come back together after NY also and can see no reason why it wouldn't happen now that Marianne has finally realised she is loved and can see true friendship does exist through Joanna, Lorraine, Niall .... and of course Connell. A truly remarkable show, one of the best I've ever seen.
@@486davinci She did however doubt he'd return. I choose to believe he has come to recognise his past failings and will be true to her. They then live happily ever after and enjoy highly successful careers as a literary sensation and highly influential politician respectively. Btw are you aware of Sally Rooney's "At the Clinic" story about M&C aged 23 in "The White Review"? I dismissed it as not being consistent with how things ended in NP!
@@realcapitalist1462 I did that's why the series ending is different, I only commented on Marianne waiting for Connell's return because I (like most people) believe they decided to be together in the end after all. I like to believe they ended up together, it was my ending for them. Love that has been suppressed by so many obstacles and/or challenges would still be naturally the end game. Whatever that scene would be. That no matter how successful one of the pair or both has been it is never complete without the other. 😊
When I finished this series - after more sobs ofc - I IMMEDIATELY felt that Fine Line (song) should have been one of the main recurring songs of the series. It encapsulates Marianne and Connell’s relationship so well; their quiet affection, the passion and love for each other. How their relationship changes over time and goes back and forth. Thank you SO much for this edit. Making me cry again just writing this but it’s so worth it ❤️🔥
For a sense of closure, it would be nice to have a one single episode to find out if Marianne and Connell actually end up together. I don’t think there’s enough story to be told for a full second season.

In the book, Marianna waited for him.

They should write them in and marry them🎉! That would be a special episode!
