For any who don't know, you can hold Alt and attack ground with artillery. This is how you minimize friendly fire when the target is engaged with your units. Drop their payload on the back half of the unit, and you will avoid a lot of FF damage over just targeting the unit and letting your siege weapon use its best judgment.

How did Plagueclaw Catapults not make the list? That unit deletes infantry, has huge range, lowers leadership so units break before they get to you and they're very accurate.
No cathay artillery 😭. I feel like the sky junk should've been on here since they fly which makes them completely immune to getting flanked by cav charges or summons like skavenslaves
Flying also means it's more difficult to intercept small fliers like furies. I'd say majority of time is better though, but the few times it falls is painful.
@@JackCaoNZ cathay has access to cheap, early, super effective anti-air ranged units in the iron hail gunners. Any flying units going for my sky junks will be shot to pieces in seconds. Then thats not even counting if your dragon LL is around.
Dreadquake mortars is very devastating, yes. But they are also very expensive unit that requires T5 building. So in my opinion the best chaos dwarfs artillery is magma cannons - they are literally melting infantry even after nerfs. And they are only T2. The only disadvantage is lack of ability to reach targets behind cover. In my campaigns magma cannons always cause more damage than hell cannons (but hell cannons still good because of different hell forge limit).
Yeah also they are easy to counter in pvp. A single dwarf cannon unit will obliterate it in 2-3 volleys give or take. Dwarf cannons have MORE pieces per unit, MORE range per unit, and MORE damage overall. They will destroy the dreadquake very early on.
I mostly agree on this list, monstrous artillery is the best. But my number 10 has gotta be the the Ogre iron blaster with its crazy damage and multiple shots plus a admirable charge bonus for cycle charging in a pinch.
Flame canon infantry melter. With 2 of those, you can kill an arachnarok spider LORD before it comes into melee with your infantry. Done it always vs greenskins.
Btw forgot to mention the little grom from kislev you can get it to 572 range with a small bit of the tech tree done but it has lack luster damage but dat range you can buff it even further with a tempest caster to almost 700
I played several hundred hours testing what artillery is best. And the clear winner was cathai fire rain rockets HIRED BY WOODELVES. They are already strong on its own but the woodelve buffs make them insanely good. Much more range, ammunition, much faster firing. Dreadquake mortar(and everything else) is a joke compared to this.
I find the sky junk and firestorm rockets from cathay, when used properly, melt infantry units. In my playthrough I get 500 kills a battle easy with 1 unit
>deathshrieker makes the top 10 >magma cannon doesn't Ah yes, the one that can't hit a fucking thing is good, but the one that can one shot top tier infantry with insane accuracy isn't.
Fun fact: until the current WH3 patch, hellcannons in WH3 were about as dangerous to infantry as empire mortars if they used all of their ammunition. Hellcannons do use their ammunition substantially faster though. Combined with them being a single entity artillery piece (and thus notably more fragile against enemy artillery). They were pretty terrible without manual fire for a very long time for how expensive they are. Doom Diver catapults deal substantially more damage while also being cheaper. Honestly, I'm surprised hellcannons made the list at all. They're solid on the current patch, but they've been so bad for so long that it's still a bit odd, and doom divers are still both better and cheaper. This list seems more like an artilley doomstack tier list though, seeing as stegadons, necrofex colossi, and Cygors are on the list, and dreadquake mortars being at the top. From a cost performance standpoint, they're not really great units at all. Stegadons as an artillery piece are very, very weak. They just make good doomstacks, because monsters that can shoot make good doomstacks.
Honestly surprised to not see magma cannons from the chaos dwarfs. But then I remembered they got nerfed a fair bit. Granted they are still good but not as OP as when they first came out.
Surprised the Slaven aren't on the list, but that just shows how these 10 and the Skaven artillery match up to one another. Dreamquakes are still the best artillery.
it really depends on how you grade it, I suppose. I love the Plague Claws, because they are pretty easily attained, dealing a lot of damage against enemy clusters, useful to siege ....
