*THIS IS SO OUT OF CONTEXT!!!!!!* After I met him in SD in October and had a solid conversation with him I know Christ is really guiding him. I think people who hear this and think he's disrespectful to the band and ungrateful need to look deeper, I think he's thankful for the opportunity to reach out for Christ because of it and how it led him back... Talking with him and the whosoevers I really saw how he just looks at things differently and whether you're Christian or not events change your look on life and I think this is one of those changes ❤
Emily Paige agreed. It warms my heart to see Austin Finding Christ in his ordeal. I love his music, and never thought he was Christian, but i am pleasantly surprised!

@Doomguy no doubt he's been through a lot. As long as you keep church and state separated I could care less what someone believes in. I'd give Austin the shirt off my back if he needed it. He's just a genuinely good guy.
"All the gun fights, all the car chases, all the sex we don't want to have with women but we have to...is all due, to what you guys do"- samuel l Jackson in the other guys. Austin sounds like this.
What you don't realize is that he's better than he's ever been. He sounds sad because the things he's talking about bring him pain. He was hurting inside, and bring in the music industry, you are surrounded by vultures...People who act like your friend but really want to bring you down. You are alone.
I hosted this event Austin spoke at. I encourage anyone watching this clip to watch the full video, as it’s clear Austin was referring to internal struggles and that nothing he tried to cover it up with solved what was wrong on the inside. Until he found Jesus.
I was at this even and I was looking through the comments of this and I wanted to say that his story is so inspirational and a great model for faith. The reason he’s whispering is because he was getting so emotional telling this story and it was something that was crazy to hear and think about someone going through. He actually is pretty happy and was enjoying answering our questions. It’s also out of context because it wasn’t the worst time of his life because of the band it was because of everything happening around him.
Homeboys been Christian, Christians still live in sin, any Christian who tells you they are perfect is a liar. As a Christian myself I can relate to what he says about become closer to God, not in terms of being some sinless perfect dude but learning more about Him and an easy peaceful surrender. This is out of context. It was the worst 10 years of his life due to other things, not by being in a band
Good for him. It's hard and scary to surrender your life to God because you have to realize you're no longer in control. I wish him all the success and happiness in the future.
Austin has always been one for attention, but in this he sounds a little crazy. Believe in religion there's nothing wrong with that but the way it's coming across with him whispering is creepy.
He has taken the right decision. The joy n peace he receive is immeasurable, fame n money is temporary but salvation n joy of our Lord Jesus permanent. The joy of the Lord is our strength.
Religion doesn't just change someone like that, but the living God does everyday. Austin is a great example of how much God's love can grasp our hearts and bring transformation from the inside out.
I am more spiritual since I am a pagan witch, however I do believe in our darkest moments we do need to find something to believe in. I do not follow christianity but I grew up catholic even though I don't believe in it now. I applaud Austin for his approach and standing up.

He didn't hate being in the band, he just hated the destructive lifestyle he was involved in during those 10 years. I watched Austin talk and it can actually be really powerful and inspiring even for a person like me who is not religious. Hes just a mainstream Christian nothing culty like the Mormon or Catholic church lol. I don't believe he's crazy at all. I just see a man whos been down a destructive path too long to the point he broke down and humbled himself. His failing health is also what really got him to sit down and slow things down. I find his story really inspiring tbh
People are jumping on the God pill but it's usually people that were acquainted with the faith earlier in their lives. God doesn't exist but hey, if it helps people, who am I to say that people should believe in BS?
William Runner If that’s how you feel, no one can change that. However, everything that is in the Bible is coming to pass. So, someone had the insight about the way this world is going. I pray that you give God a chance. He’s always waiting with arms open wide. Have a blessed day 💕
Damn man. That's tough to hear. Just goes to show ya you never ever know what any famous musician or actor is going through. It's not all glitz and glam for them despite the wealth and fame. Sometimes it doesn't mean shit.
I wonder if he doesn't like the royalties he still gets from the band. The same royalties that pay for his treatments. This is just another classic case of "Oh, I found God. Now I must hate everything I did in the past."
Well, you don't have to shame yourself or forget who you once were in oder to live a new life. You just need to accept the kind of person you used to be and the things you did, and try to deal with your past, and not go around saying that you regret this and that because you have now found God. What he's doing is not moving on, is living in denial. Here's a short story. Four years ago I lost a friend in a car accident, and way before his passing he had had some problems with drugs and alcohol, and when he finally got himself together, not once did I hear him saying something like: "Oh, I'm ashamed of the person I used to be and blablabla". It was quite the opposite, actually. What he used to say was: "Well, I can't change who I was. I can't change the things I did. The only thing I can do is to accept the consequences of my actions and try to move on." Anyway, I couldn't care less about the kind of person Austin wants to be now, actually. But the thing that bothers me the most is that he claims that the time he spent with Of Mice and Men was the worst time of his life, and that he doesn't want anything to do with the band anymore, and yet he still depends on the money he receives from them. The problem here is his hypocrisy. I get that he wasn't living a self-destructive life because of the band, but the way he speaks about it, it conveys the idea that the band was the cause of everything.
Sorry for the harsh words but I don't like the way people seem to spit on everything they did before right after "finding Jesus". It's almost like they were brainwashed...
Yes but him finding where his heart stands with God has brought him strength in a way, but just imagine losing someone you where so close to and then eventually figure out you have the same experiences, this man is so much more than the world even knows about strength. I couldn’t imagine how angry he was after losing his loved one, and all the shit. He went thru, not with just the band but with false lovers aswell ): he deserves all the love from us fans and all that we gave him, God aswell but, God gave us him and he gave us such a good long life time messages in his song when we were all going through our own things even if it was angry sounding...but hey we all aren’t perfect are we?
Is because is empty people that blame their emptiness on the actions they did and how it was the scene not realizing you gotta deal with your own emptiness. Others find god and fill it but deep down still as empty. Some it works. You gotta be good with you, the music scene isn't bad or good it brings out the kind a person you are.
Sad to see that it was the worst ten years of his life, and see that it was so much for so many people who listened to their songs.. I'm sad to see that he could help many people but never help himself.. I hope Austin will be better with times..
No matter what, Austin Carlile will forever go down as the most powerful voice of an era in music. His vocals were what others strived to have at the time. OM&M self titled is what got me into the post-hardcore/metal scene way back in 2011, and I have rocked that album ever since. I respect the fuck out of Austin for what he accomplished, even if it meant putting himself through hell. His lyrics spoke to a really awkward 14 year old who was trying to fit in, and not to mention their drummer Valentino Arteaga, inspired me sooooo much in my formative years of drumming. Though I don't care for the stuff after Shayley left, I still think of OM&M as the O.G. post-hardcore/metal band for me personally.
It’s a damn shame Austin left OM&M like that. He’s an amazing frontman. Don’t get me wrong though, I have a lot of respect for someone who can walk away from their successful career to “follow their heart” or whatever. It’s just sad to see talent lost from the metal and hard rock world, Not to mention, all the Jesus talk is super cringe...
H. E. M. Yes, I know. Screaming was causing tissue in his body to tear due to his Marfan syndrome. But there’s an interview out there where he talked about the fact that his physical injuries were just a catalyst to push him further toward leaving the band to follow his Christian beliefs.
@Shoruzen it's not as crazy as u make it seems bro. Not all Christians are hypocrites bro and will force Jesus down your throat. Because Jesus doesn't want us to do that. We have different belief, that's cool. I'm still going to love you 🤙🤙
Doomguy lmao, you just described every Christian and Catholic , sorry man but us atheists choose not to believe in anything 🤷🏻♂️proves we’re strong enough to believe in ourselves over some made up name you guys think is in the sky
Religion is crazy. Because if you don't believe in God it's like it sounds silly, but if you don't believe and you didn't yourself being told about it by someone that does. - you can really feel the resonating feeling of warmth that comes from them. It's bizarre. Makes one think.
@@LRM5195 I just corrected my typo cause I just noticed. That's the thing though that I don't understand. How can someone have faith and be happy with the uncertainty that there is a heaven or hell. What if it's all made up so that we're not acting like total animals and so we can live as a society... And then back to my top comment. You bump into people , and when you hear them talk about it. You can really feel the warmth. It's just, how does that happen? I've tried to put myself in the hands of religion. But I just felt like it was neverending patience. To wait for something to happen... But what? Die and go to heaven? How do you guys know God exists? The universe is endless basically. How do you know there's a heaven and hell ? Where is it?
@Ivan Arana you guys both have points. To Lance as well... I heard you guys. Want you to know that it helps to hear other people's opinions when you're not really collect...? Thanks for listening guys. I took in what you guys said..
Just saying you still own everything to that band man without them you wouldn't be where you are now just give that a thought anyways I love the new of mice and men so it's whatever I guess
WHO SAVES THE RESCUE you do know he created that band right? He’s the reason it’s even a thing so if anything they wouldn’t be where they are if it wasn’t for him
@@spartanrazor18 I get what your saying but without Phil Alan and valentino their be no actual music and those amazing riffs nothing against Austin but at the end of the day the music is what makes it music not lyrics and vocals so he she be a little bit more greatful for those four dude bringing of mice and men to life
He was grateful about the band but what meant about it being the worse years of his life he talking more about his mental health. Which for some reason wasn't added to this video but in the original video he talks about his mental health more
@@963susi oh alright Yeah if they added that would have helped understand his worst 10 years statement but either way glad he doing a lot better and was smart enough to leave instead of killing himself doing screaming vocals every night
i'd put money on the fact that there were genuine times that he was happy in the band. especially early days. you can see it on his face and his body language and hear it in his voice that he's having the time of his life. not saying there weren't bad moments though. especially post Shayley. just my 2 cents
There is missing a lot of context from this video. I know you commented this 3 years ago but the reason it was the worst 10 years of his life wasnt the bands fault. It was bc of him and he said that but ofc it got taken out of context
Seems like he’s in denial of what he lost. He lost what he loved that’s pretty obvious. No doubt what he’s saying about the lifestyle is true but one can choose not to live it even with that career. Everyone at this point should know that the party lifestyle isn’t going to bring fulfillment..
Sigh, only song I heard from of mice and men when Austin was in the band is bones exposed, and I didnt care for it, after I heard instinct and a lot of songs after instinct I really enjoyed so I can't say im a fan of Austin, not a religious person so good luck to Austin on whatever he is chasing after.
"i stopped trusting my gut feeling after i had a life threatening experience and realized i AM actually scared of death, even though i cant explain it. i feel i should probably suck up to jesus now because im a coward and cant explain my own path or fate." i used to look up to this guy.
Sounds like every other 'Rock Preacher' I've seen floating around. He may be one of the most well known, but meh. Not really looking forward to anything else out of him.
Can u guys pray for me? This girl I love might have to move far away in about a month. Please pray that her dad can find a job close by so they can stay. They have to leave because he needs to get a job. Please pray that he will get a job that can support him and his family so they don't have to move. Please pray for them and me. I feel like I might lose her if she moves.
I've been dealing with severe health issues since I was very young, I never got to even have normal experiences, nevertheless unreal experiences like this fellow, but never felt the need to air it out on stage. To each their own I suppose.
To each their own. Being around people who aren't into the same stuff as you does make you feel misunderstood. Aaron and others are doing just fine on their own too.
They need to thank Austin and shayley and then accordingly change the name of the band because none of them there started it. It's like AA! "reunion" or W,IM at the very end.
Every one of these guys that "finds God", thinks their band days were the "worst of their life"...it is only if you allow it to be...you can have religion & music....right Brian Welch...Korn?
I was confused when Austin started talking, I thought I'd clicked on an ASMR video... All joking aside I feel for the guy, can't be easy dealing with Warfan's.
Had a good time doing all that rock-n-Roll lifestyle $h!t, but then finds god and looks back in retrospect and thinks: "My God! What have I done?" (Talking Heads). You may ask yourself... How did I get here?
There is soooo much context missing from this clip!! The reason it was the "worst ten years of my life" was because he was doing thing out of revenge and self destruction, not because he was in of mice and men.

You said it yourself. You know he was always crap, and that om+m wasn't sht without shayley, so why you praising AC so much? Kinda weird bro
I've had it I'm going to find Jesus no more Playboy parties and trath amounthhhh of Cocaine for me!😞
I'm not religious by any stretch but if this is what works for him then that's great. We all have our own lives to live.
We still love you Austin! Stay healthy and focused brother ❤
Did he not do that stuff with a minor or two?....
yeah but he found god so i guess everything is cool now!!! lmao
It’s a damn shame Austin left OM&M like that. He’s an amazing frontman.
Don’t get me wrong though, I have a lot of respect for someone who can walk away from their successful career to “follow their heart” or whatever. It’s just sad to see talent lost from the metal and hard rock world,
Not to mention, all the Jesus talk is super cringe...
He left because screaming was killing him
H. E. M. Yes, I know. Screaming was causing tissue in his body to tear due to his Marfan syndrome. But there’s an interview out there where he talked about the fact that his physical injuries were just a catalyst to push him further toward leaving the band to follow his Christian beliefs.
“I’m 12 and everything is cringe”
@Shoruzen it's not as crazy as u make it seems bro. Not all Christians are hypocrites bro and will force Jesus down your throat. Because Jesus doesn't want us to do that. We have different belief, that's cool. I'm still going to love you 🤙🤙
Doomguy lmao, you just described every Christian and Catholic , sorry man but us atheists choose not to believe in anything 🤷🏻♂️proves we’re strong enough to believe in ourselves over some made up name you guys think is in the sky
I can definitely see that. Listen to his lyrics from the Attack Attack and OM&M album compared to his last album.
Religion is crazy. Because if you don't believe in God it's like it sounds silly, but if you don't believe and you didn't yourself being told about it by someone that does. - you can really feel the resonating feeling of warmth that comes from them. It's bizarre. Makes one think.
@@LRM5195 ouch
But if you do believe and you're being told about it*
@@LRM5195 I just corrected my typo cause I just noticed.
@Ivan Arana I can agree there because I've had moments where I feel weak and I can see how having faith can be a mental strength..for other people.
@Ivan Arana you guys both have points. To Lance as well... I heard you guys. Want you to know that it helps to hear other people's opinions when you're not really collect...? Thanks for listening guys. I took in what you guys said..
goddammit... he was such a great vocalist
I respect him, but uhhh... a song or two of those screams are enough to give me a headache
His voice sounds brutal...like as if all the years of him screaming improperly did a number
I feel him. Omg the sadness in his voice 💔
His speech sounds so contrived. Like he practiced that speech for weeks in the mirror just to get his voice breaking up at the exact right spots haha.
Im a metalcore since 2007 .. but i never left god ..
Don't bash me
So crazy I used to message him back in the myspace days wen it was attackattack! Lost touch wen I got stationed in Georgia. Woooooow that was 2008
smASHley * that’s pretty cool
Yeah you can go to his seminars, just don't take your daughter with you...
Facts! From personal experience, a total creep!
i'd put money on the fact that there were genuine times that he was happy in the band. especially early days.
you can see it on his face and his body language and hear it in his voice that he's having the time of his life.
not saying there weren't bad moments though. especially post Shayley.
just my 2 cents
There is missing a lot of context from this video. I know you commented this 3 years ago but the reason it was the worst 10 years of his life wasnt the bands fault. It was bc of him and he said that but ofc it got taken out of context
And people say Rise doesn’t dictate their artist.
WTF surely this is clips of the worst things Austin said because he sounds like a goddamn preacher talking to young boys and girls in Sunday school.
Why is he whispering?
That's his voice it's raspy lol don't know if you was serious or not so I thought i would answer for you your welcome
Natas Marfan Syndrome.
@@jayburriswayne5403 that, and I'm sure incorrectly screaming for years didnt help
Natas looks like he’s preaching at a church. I’ve heard preachers use that exact voice my whole life
Because he's extremely ill and thin maybe?
Seems like he’s in denial of what he lost. He lost what he loved that’s pretty obvious. No doubt what he’s saying about the lifestyle is true but one can choose not to live it even with that career. Everyone at this point should know that the party lifestyle isn’t going to bring fulfillment..
I’m happy for him but he’s a chore to listen to.
Keep your hands out your damn pocket!!!
Way to take this clip out of context and the purpose of getting clicks. It wasn't because of the band, it was the things he was doing.
If you're into something , no matter how big it is, it's still useless if it kills you at the end.
"i stopped trusting my gut feeling after i had a life threatening experience and realized i AM actually scared of death, even though i cant explain it. i feel i should probably suck up to jesus now because im a coward and cant explain my own path or fate." i used to look up to this guy.
Lol just let people do what they want. Are you some edgy teenager, trashing people for their beliefs? Lol come on man… be better.
Don't worry man. I used to look up to Jason Butler.... It happens. People change or aren't what they seem 🙁
Praise God, he's returned to his faith roots.
I liked when he was in attack attack, of mice and men after the 2011 album went to commercial
Sounds like every other 'Rock Preacher' I've seen floating around. He may be one of the most well known, but meh. Not really looking forward to anything else out of him.
It's very lucrative...he's a great guy...I'm sure.
Mad respect. love you man
I mean no offense to Austin but I enjoy their sound more now than ever before.
Invalid opinion on music take
I've been dealing with severe health issues since I was very young, I never got to even have normal experiences, nevertheless unreal experiences like this fellow, but never felt the need to air it out on stage. To each their own I suppose.
If spending ten years playing music, kicking ass and getting paid for it sucks, then my life is absolute *shit*
Probably wasn't the music that led these guys to make poor choices, it was probably the lifestyle of being an internationally touring band
I was confused when Austin started talking, I thought I'd clicked on an ASMR video... All joking aside I feel for the guy, can't be easy dealing with Warfan's.
Give'm about half a decade or so, he'll HEAD back...
Heh, Korn.
I get the joke but at the same time I don't
hell be dead before that can happen. marfans kills most people by their 40s if they last that long
Amen Austin. You are a true hero.
Ngl, I thought Aaron was the same guy as Austin for a bit.
Getting closer to death and suddenly becomes religious. SHOCKER! smh.
Had a good time doing all that rock-n-Roll lifestyle $h!t, but then finds god and looks back in retrospect and thinks: "My God! What have I done?" (Talking Heads).
You may ask yourself... How did I get here?
