I have question that might be stupid but can you create windows vms on say a virtual Xenserver, I have the error message HVM is required for this operation. HVM has been enabled on the Xenserver but it seems to not like it. I'm guessing you are required to have a physical Xenserver in order for this to work.
I know this video is fairly old but I have a question. How do you map a NAS to xenserver for a storrage repo? I have a an older Buffalo TerraStation that has 8Tb of storrage. I would love to have that available to use in xen.
Hi Tom thanks a bunch for that , just a quick question can you only create Toms land of Xen with pfsense visualized or is there other ways to get access to the Virtual interfaces and take advantage of the FSB speeds thanking you and keep smiling :-)
HI Tom, I have a pretty similar network and I have one issue: I have tree Single-Server Networks attached to a PFSense; What happens is that, even if I open all the firewall between the networks, the VMs won't communicate each-other: I can only ping the PFsense interfaces, but not the VMs on the other side. For example, say the current VM is 192.168.1.2/24 GW 192.168.1.254, and the remote VM is 192.168.2.2/24 GW 192.168.2.254. The farther i can ping is the gateway on the other network, 192.168.2.254, while I can't reach the 192.168.2.2 VM... How could I solve it? Thanks a lot.
what keeps me from adopting Xen or ESXI is the transfer speeds on the virtual nics in windows 7 or 10, transfer speeds in my lab were never better than 50-70MBs on a gigabyte network, I did not try Xenserver "which I like very much" I would be interested to see what throughput you get when copying some large "video" files from your NAS to a Win7-10 virtual machine hd. HyperV virtual machines usually get much faster transfer rates in my experiments. P.S. video looks great here on my 1080p monitor.
I will do some network speed testing to see just what the throughput is. File transfers can vary as they also related to the hard drive speed of the hyper visor so I might just test the NIC performance using iperf.
Hi, with Citrix XenServer deployments, is it possible to isolate VM to VM communications for security reasons, but also ensure these VM’s can communicate to the outside network?
@@LAWRENCESYSTEMS I am currently doing a research on ransomware detection using software defined networking. I was told that i achieve that with xenserver easily. What do you think?
Just a recommendation for these educational screen cast videos is to do them in a lower resolution. My assumption as to why I can't read a single thing on your screen and it has so much empty useless space to the right is that you are doing this @ 4K resolution. This makes it nearly impossible for any device except maybe another PC with a 4K monitor to see any detail. 1080p is the ideal maximum for most instructional video use. Thankfully, your verbal conveyance is good thus not making watching it a total waste.
Are you watching this on a smartphone maybe? I'm watching full-screen on a desktop computer, and because it also has a 1080p screen, the Xen windows are just as big as on my own pc.
I had no problem following along and reading what was on the screen. Not sure of your setup but worked just great for me. Thanks Tom for another great video.
can't wait for next video's about HA configuration. Thanks.

Install xenserver guest-tools.iso
on the vm's will do the job
Hi .. can i instal Gns3 or EveEng XenServer ???

I have moved from Citrix to XCP-NG, but yes both system can create private networks for interv VM only communications.
Hi... Please how can use POX Controller for vswitch in xenserver?
I never tried, also this video is old and I have moved to using XCP-NG

Not sure how that would work, but have fun. 🙂

It was at 1080, but you are correct, I should have zommed in a bit to make it more visual.
