No offense- I am actually looking for the right overalls. I stopped a lady coming out of Target because she was sharp. Yes she had on overalls! She cut and hemmed the length, nice sandals, shirt was short sleeved with scoop neck and the color was close to her skin tone, and gold loose link belt. She asked me to guess her age I figured 50-54, she was 65. I thanked her for sharing. She was jazzy.
Yessssss! I'm mid-40s and rock overalls. I have had 20-somethings compliment my look. It's the way you style it and the right pair....not the ones in this video, lol!

@ Angela What she showed, the boiler suit, and the overalls look horrible. Both could use some dressing up especially the boiler suit. If she calls it I would love to have seen the lady you mentioned in the overalls with the link belt. I bet it was good looking thanks for sharing .
Very helpful, Alisha. I turned 70 last year and while I don't want to look like a 25-year-old, I don't want to look frumpy & dumpy either. I have an additional challenge in that I'm barely 5' tall. The only one I still do is the ballet flats as my days of hoochie heels are long gone. But. . . . I'm going to start wearing my good sneaks with outfits and I DO have some boots, including combat boots.
I’m sure you have amazing style Carla. You look so pretty in your thumbnail. And I hear you 100% about the flats. These days it’s just not worth risking injury to wear certain shoes. 😘♥️😘
I love wearing my combat boots too, especially with a maxi or midi. I'm 57 and I think I will always wear them. I'm sure you look so cool. You look beautiful in your picture, especially with your chic Parisian style hair 💕💕💕
I’m around the age of these ladies & I want to look like the cool chicks too…if that’s the vibe😂. Anyway I had back surgery some yrs ago & I can do 2” or less but I forgot about my combat boots…I’ll be pulling them out!! Bless y’all 💕

i wear the kaftan with the head wrap on my waist, Like a belt. and it makes the dress more form fitting, and is very very cute. Trust me. I'm 50 and never look like an older frumpy women in my clothes.
I do agree on most items. You are right about the classic cardigan, it most certainly is quite matronly…particularly if worn the standard way. However, this is a piece I have multiples of as I style them various ways to give a completely different look. I will often wear them backwards, crisscrossed in the front tucked into my jeans, or flipped (particularly oversized ones) for a cropped top effect. If I wear them buttoned in the front, I tuck the bottom under for a cropped look. Ballet flats are a definite staple for me with my 4’9” stature. At almost 70 years of age, comfort is mandatory when I know I will be on my feet for a long period of time. I would not wear them with a flowy dress, but will wear them with skinny pants/jeans/leggings or a mini dress with tights, and an oversized jacket/blazer. I do often wear my Doc Marten’s, ankle boots, knee high boots, or loafers. I absolutely despise the chunky sneaker/trainers and prefer standard or platform canvas sneakers. Working with a munchkin of a body poses quite a few challenges and finding the right look takes loads of effort and time experimenting with clothes; however, that is actually the fun part! Finding ways to create new and unique looks with standard items gives great versatility to my wardrobe.
I gave this video a thumbs up even though I disagreed with most of it's content. I felt most of the outfits in the "frumpy" category were fixable with the simple addition of another coordinated piece or a statement accessory ie belt, scarf and/or jewelry. Everything she said is correct. Sorry. She is a STYLIST. Don’t be offended. If you want to keep wearing this stuff then do so. As for my 57 year old self, I appreciate ALL her advise and I’m going to be ditching all my old style sweaters tomorrow. I want to look FRESH and I’m not trying to hold on to old stuff. Hello Caftans are in style and dressy ones are cute. I had some very dressy ones made with nice fabrics and they are gorgeous in a kimono style. I will look into the shirt dress.
Girl! I have all of that in my closet. Fortunately I have both so I can switch it up when I need to. I have pretty much given up on overalls. And I believe the capris were just the style and fit you choose. With the right pair of shoes, they can definitely look just as good as Bermuda shorts and more polished. I can Not step in bible study with that dress or anything low cut or I will become the topic of conversation and prayer. Especially at my age.
🤣 the topic of discussion or prayer had me! I have the same issue separating grown and sexy from looking mature. I feel like certain things look overtly “sexy” on me instead of tasteful and classy like she pulls off. It’s so hard to balance.

The capris look much better than the bermudas but hey, everybody has their opinion. I think most of it is body type. Not everything looks good on every shape

We call these looks “the sad bank teller” to represent the category of outfit that says I had to meet the minimum dress code and I don’t want anyone to know I’m a woman lol. I’ve been guilty from time to time on those tires days when I know I just wanna be left alone! These are great tips, some of them subtle but definitely count if you want to looks stylish!
I too have been known to slap on the frump to be left alone as a sort of “respect armor”. No lecherous stares, respect from all age groups and both genders, but also no lip for the youngins. It’s the perfect balance sometimes. 🤷🏾♀️
Haha this was a good one. I got rid of those stretchy maxi skirts a few years ago and yes l love my caftans but l reserve them for the home. I love a good shirtdress. They're so easy. Yes yes yes!!!! Please more of these videos.
Wear what you want, how you want and what you’re comfortable in! Self confidence, self worth and what’s inside is what matters the most. Don’t worry what others think! Love yourself!
I agree. But you should still be aware and care about how you look. You look good, you feel good. No one should want to look frumpy. It's all about how you want to present yourself to the world.
The way I cackled at the capris!!!😂 I’m glad I let those go in the early 2000s. Love the alternatives and the side my side videos are helpful in case I’m tempted one day lol
Great presentation - - organized and easy to understand,. Easy to compare as to what works (and why) as well as what DOESN'T WORK (and why). I can tell you put a lot of thought and energy into this presentation. Also, love your phrase "played out" - - very descriptive and on point.
I enjoy your videos and they are really helpful to us women, especially those of us of a certain age. Your use of stereotypes eg teachers, matrons, librarians, church going bible study ladies being frumpy ,not stylish ,not modern really is from yesteryear. I think women in all places and occupations have really stepped up a notch in outlook, attitude and appearance hence videos like yours are so wanted and helpful. The stereotypical descriptions you use are unfortunate in an otherwise enlightening video.
I think the cow neck looks better for Bible study.. the split is to high it looks like club wear. I agree with the thick fabric it does make a difference in the dated look.
Thank you for this demonstrative video. I agreed with almost everything, except the overalls. I actually liked the overalls on you in the video. I think you can style them to make them look fashionable.

F shoes also WHEN you ARE SHOWING DIFFERENT outfit THAT could match WELL WITH shoes also PLEASE flats ,1in heels as WELL BECAUSE WHEN you have worn heels all YOUR life now we can't be as stylish in THE shoe department. THANKSGIVING BE BLESSED 😇😊
Thanks for all your tips! Please discuss and compare perhaps low heeled sandals vs booties/boots and tennis shoes with dresses, skirts, jeans when changing from winter to spring. I get confused on what looks best with what...and keep with an in trend, younger look. Thanks!
The side by side visuals you gave were very helpful. I don't necessarily agree with the capri because I find it's where it hits your calf that makes a difference and the type shoe that matters IMHO. Petalpusher types are definitely a no for me. Lol
The overalls cracked me up. I'm 29, and styled a cordouroy overall dress recently. I pulled it off with a beret, turtle neck, tights and over the knee boots. It gave parisian baddie vibes, and worked for the evening..but I threw it away after 🤣. It just doesn't go with my style aesthetic anymore..and like you mentioned..takes way too much work to try and pull off.
I looooove overalls! People always compliment my overall looks. I'm mid-40s, but people often think I'm younger. I don't go for that on purpose, but it's my mom's genes. For overalls, I usually do an edgy look with my overalls. I have leather, linen, jean, and camo overalls that I will wear with high heel booties. I also have three boiler jumpsuits, but overalls are my favorite! Sidenote: I wouldn't wear those overalls in this video....they look boring and farmerish. Another sidenote: Friday night Bible study, lolol! What about Wednesday or Thursday? Lol! And side, side note: I saw a large size black woman wearing a colorful muumuu/daishiki dress and she looked gorgeous!
That's funny what you said about the sweater. Most other fashionistas are saying that the longer sweaters look dated now and that in fall to rock shorter lengths.

Love this!!! ❤ The side by side with the capris tickled me - the visual was clear! 😩👌🏾
I’m not mad at those overalls ❤
Haha this was a good one. I got rid of those stretchy maxi skirts a few years ago and yes l love my caftans but l reserve them for the home. I love a good shirtdress. They're so easy. Yes yes yes!!!! Please more of these videos.
Wear what you want, how you want and what you’re comfortable in! Self confidence, self worth and what’s inside is what matters the most. Don’t worry what others think! Love yourself!
I agree. But you should still be aware and care about how you look. You look good, you feel good. No one should want to look frumpy. It's all about how you want to present yourself to the world.
Everything you showed and said is straight on point
The way I cackled at the capris!!!😂 I’m glad I let those go in the early 2000s. Love the alternatives and the side my side videos are helpful in case I’m tempted one day lol
Great presentation - - organized and easy to understand,. Easy to compare as to what works (and why) as well as what DOESN'T WORK (and why). I can tell you put a lot of thought and energy into this presentation. Also, love your phrase "played out" - - very descriptive and on point.
Started out skeptical. U won me over. Greta job. Thanks
Yes the snekers over the ballet slippers i see the difference , thanks 😘
I enjoy your videos and they are really helpful to us women, especially those of us of a certain age.
Your use of stereotypes eg teachers, matrons, librarians, church going bible study ladies being frumpy ,not stylish ,not modern really is from yesteryear. I think women in all places and occupations have really stepped up a notch in outlook, attitude and appearance hence videos like yours are so wanted and helpful. The stereotypical descriptions you use are unfortunate in an otherwise enlightening video.
LOVE the side by side video examples!! Really illustrates your style points 👍🏽😊
I got affirmation with your no no choices.very helpful
Some ideas wr helpful , some I didn’t agree with some but I appreciate the discussion.
I am 62 and my nieces always say auntie you are so FLY and I love it!!
Thank you so much for all the styles advice you give love them
Thank you so much Roxanne. I really appreciate it sweetheart. 😘♥️
Lovely I start changing how I dress by watching you, thank you
I think the cow neck looks better for Bible study.. the split is to high it looks like club wear. I agree with the thick fabric it does make a difference in the dated look.
Thank you for this demonstrative video. I agreed with almost everything, except the overalls. I actually liked the overalls on you in the video. I think you can style them to make them look fashionable.
Love your videos! 😍This was fun to watch! I'm the odd one out...as usual! I LOVE my overalls!....just bought a pair today! But didn't get offended at all!! Your opinion is your opinion! 💯
I agree! You always give great fashion advice! Thank you!!!!!!
This is one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam. You were so on point. I rarely ever share videos but I will definitely be sharing this video ASAP. Awesome job 👏
Thank you Alisha! Great styling and spot on with some of those frumpy looks we need to steer away from 👍😊
F shoes also WHEN you ARE SHOWING DIFFERENT outfit THAT could match WELL WITH shoes also PLEASE flats ,1in heels as WELL BECAUSE WHEN you have worn heels all YOUR life now we can't be as stylish in THE shoe department. THANKSGIVING BE BLESSED 😇😊
I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO SHOW a variety of
Thanks for all your tips!
Lol
Also need different style of capries and shoes
The overalls cracked me up. I'm 29, and styled a cordouroy overall dress recently. I pulled it off with a beret, turtle neck, tights and over the knee boots. It gave parisian baddie vibes, and worked for the evening..but I threw it away after 🤣. It just doesn't go with my style aesthetic anymore..and like you mentioned..takes way too much work to try and pull off.
love my overalls wear with a tube top
Great Advice! I appreciate the examples and honesty. Thank You
All of your ideas are excellent, I agree 100% concerning the Ballet shoe, they are not for being cool, nope! Thanks for sharing!
I’m a 54 year old “frumpy” teacher! Thanks for this helpful video! I will up my game!😂
Girl, your descriptions are cracking me up. Great job, and thank you for this helpful video.
Thanks for the side by side comparison. 😊
This video had me run to my closet 😂. I’ve never seen your videos before this one but thank you so much ❤
That green is gorgeous on you!
Great keep up the good work show much more
Thank you for all of your great advice. You wear clothes well and are super GORGEOUS!
So pretty! Thanks for sharing!
One of your best videos. Such great tips. Thank you, thank you!!
Thank you so much Therese. ♥️😘
You really awesome at this. You have given me some great takeaways.
That's funny what you said about the sweater. Most other fashionistas are saying that the longer sweaters look dated now and that in fall to rock shorter lengths.
Hello, I'm 73 yrs. old and new to this channel. Alisha, I love the do and don't comparison pics; those are so helpful in visualizing the look. Do you have suggestions on proper foundations for wearing sweater dresses?
You are SO GREAT at styling classy yet cool looks THANK YOU for the inspo!!!😁😁
This video is a life saver im 28and there nothing for me to wear im getting tired of my wardrobe and I think its why people think im younger than i am I love this so helpful
