Guns for hands was written after tyler spoke with young fans about their experiences with suicidal thoughts and urges. He’s saying he can’t sleep because he’s afraid they’ll hurt themselves. That they should channel the energy towards music and being with other people like themselves.
My favorite line from the first verse is “you swear to your parents it will never happen again, I know what that means” this is a direct mention to self harm
@@fletcher8431 FActs -- and I love "turn their guns to a fist" -- just great lyrics
yess this is why I love them so much
@@fletcher8431 "...fused at the wrist..." always gets me
@@fletcher8431 “when the sun shines on the ground and shows what you have done”
This song is about Self harm, we can use our hands as weapons and Tyler can't sleep knowing that we can harm ourselves and taking our lives
As a therapist I imagined that you have been in the very position this song is singing about. Tyler can’t sleep because he is worried about fans who have disclosed to him that they are experiencing suicide ideation.
His message is don’t take your life. Instead find comfort and belonging in his music. And turn your guns into a fist. Meaning don’t take your life…fight for it.
Very well said! I do know and can definitely relate to this now 😊👍
Josh actually had a panic attack after he put the duck tape on his head because he felt like he couldn't breathe. Tyler came over, calmed him down and told him that everything was OK. Friendship Goals!
I was wondering if anyone else remembered this. As someone that's claustrophobic, I can only imagine.
@@C-SD Yes! And crowds are the worst!
How did u know abt this?
guns for hands is basically about being suicidal. tyler says "i'm trying to sleep, but i can't when you all have guns for hands." meaning that he's worried about people/his fans being suicidal or self harming.
I always think of this song as an example of the profound relationship they have with their fans. Tyler put to music his worry over his fans' suicidal thoughts and the potential of his influence. So he encourages them to change their plans by turning their guns to fists. Fight it together. Direct their feelings into the music. Go outside and all join hands. The lyrics here are so poignant and worth diving into. Stay alive, frens |-/ 💛💙💛
This song has saved many lives. Tyler talks about self harming and suicide. He couldn't sleep thinking about all those fans struggling at night with suicidar thoughts.
And yes!!! They are playing this song in this tour! I just got to experience it live yesterday!!! Best day of my life!!!!!
I have said this on other videos, so I apologize for repeating, but, my son introduced me to the boys in about 2015 when I found out the hard way that he was self-harming and had suicidal thoughts. We listened to them in the car on the way to and from his outpatient day classes after he was released from the hospital. He had not actually tried to end his life, just told the school- 4 times in a calender year- that he had a plan to. He was self-harming, but it was explained to me that the two aren't always related to each other. Anyway, we had been listening to them and the boys were coming to town for their Emotional Roadshow tour and I got tickets for us to go. While we were there, they played this song and it all of a sudden hit me what the lyrics were saying. I had heard them but I wasn't listening- until the concert. It helped me understand both of our roles, as parent and child, and a little about what was going on in his head and in mine. The whole show was an emotional rollercoaster for me as well. I have had ongoing depression for many years and have developed anxiety over time. I felt like I was in a forest of people just like me and we were all there having been through similar things and happened to find a band who knew it all too. It was amazing. I sang. I yelled my "Yeah Yeah Yeah's" and cried during Trees. I really want to see them again and take my youngest son, but we just haven't been able to make it work- YET! We will though. We must. PS My oldest is better now. I think he still has things going on but I think he is handling them better or differently or something (he's 23, he doesn't share much...) But the boys are just what we needed, at different times in our lives and for different reasons, but they were, and still are, there when we need them. Level of Concern really helped me feel connected to someone during a very tumultuous and scary time. The Christmas song was so nostalgic and lovely. I listen to it year-round. I love them and how they really seem to care about us and appreciate us and they are good people with very humble backgrounds and they aren't awful humans. I'll stop now. I think you get what I am saying. Night all!
Thanks for sharing! l-/
This is powerful 🥰 I’m so glad you and your son were able come together through the music. The music and message are a gift. 🎶
about self-harm... "I know what you think in the morning
When the sun shines on the ground
And shows what you have done
It shows where your mind has gone
And you swear to your parents
That it will never happen again"
one of my favorites from RAB/Vessel, it's a song that talks about self-harm and suicidal thoughts, Tyler wrote the song after having a talk with his fans about their problems and suicidal thoughts and how he relates to them, I think is a beautiful and very positive song, the title of the song refers to having a gun in his hands referring to self-harm and the part where he says "I'm trying to sleep" is true because Tyler has always loved and cared for his fans and there were times when Tyler couldn't sleep because he thought if one of his fans was hurt or even committed suicide, in the same way Josh also loves his fans, he used to write by dm to fans giving them words of support and help.
And yes, in concerts it is a SPECTACULAR song, especially the part where he says "turn our gun into a fist"
I saw them for the first time last Sunday in Cincinnati and they did play this song live. I wasn't expecting it but it was a nice surprise. They performed more older songs than I expected in general. I think Jumpsuit, Heathens, Car Radio, and of course Trees were my favorite performances at that show but I enjoyed all of the songs they played.
They played a part of Guns for Hands at the Philly show. 9/2/22.
I wish they would have played the whole thing!!!!
this song means to much to me personally, i don’t believe i would be exaggerating to say that it saved my life.
although tyler writes his music openly so that you can perceive it in many different ways, i always thought that guns for hands was talking about suicide and self harm… on spotify i believe there’s a commentary that confirms that too, after tyler spoke with his young fans and saw that they too were struggling with these thoughts and feelings.
the first few verses hint at that quite a bit, but it took me a few listens to really grasp what this song was fully talking about.
anyways in the end it’s definitely a song i relate deeply to and i will always treasure it :)
thanks for your reaction, i cant wait to watch more!
Thanks so much for the comments 😊👍
When he hands Josh the mask the print says, "They won't know its you. You can take it off when you're ready". Josh had a lot of anxiety in general, but also bouts of stage fright (which he's always worked through and played amazing shows anyway). I'm pretty sure that's what's being referenced.
People have already explained the basics of the song, so I'll spare you another version. 😂
This song means a lot to a lot of clikkies. Never thought I'd get to see it live! I'm so excited.
Well said! Thanks so much charity!😊👍
Tyler: “You can take it off when you’re ready.”
Josh: *rips mask off the moment he gets to his drums* 🥁 😹
Josh’s anxiety melts away at the drum kit. It’s therapy for him. One of the reasons he beats so hard on them 😜
@@GarnetJ I love it!😊
Yes, in fact Guns for Hands is their 2nd "opener" to the concert after the duo of 'Scaled and Icy' songs to start! You'll love this show...
I saw them Wednesday night for the first timeand it was fantastic!
The Icy tour show looks so good! I got to go to one show in the takeover tour, but I wish I could go to this current run! Wow!
With the exception of the 6 smallest venue stops on the takeover tour, they hadn't played it live since 2017. Last week was my 6th time seeing them live so I was SO excited to hear it!
Ah! First show is always a little extra special. I never thought I'd get to hear this song live.
To me this speaks struggling with any sort of issues, especially anything that's harmful for oneself. An addict, for example, will wake up in the morning and realize how they messed up, and it's a struggle when the matter of addiction is always available, "guns for hands".
I just saw them yesterday for the 2nd time, MAN OH MAN what an experience yet again !! THEY'RE AMAZING and I love all of the clique for making those shows so memorable 🙌❤
Yes they're playing this song live on The Icy Tour, go see them !!! 😁✌
I can’t wait!!!!!!😁😁😁😁
I reALY discovered their music when I started going thru anxiety and the discovery I have autism. I was already 20, suddenly locked in my room because I was to scared to go out for at least 2 years. I knew about Stressed Out when it came out and shown on MTV, I allready had a click witth their music, and theirs alone. Needless to say, TOP and the clique helped me thru all of this..
I saw them last week in Detroit and oh my god they were absolutely incredible! I got a couple images of Tyler being within five peoples lengths of me. The visuals, the banter, everything about it was insane.
what songs did they play? I want to see them but I only listen to albums from that time

I find it interesting that Tyler puts on masking tape, creating a mask that he wears
Recently discovered your channel on youtube. I respect you for being able to listen to so many different music and lyrics without judgement. I especially like your therapeutic responses to NF's music tracks.
I got ADHD and I listen to 21 pilots when my thoughts get to loud
I’ve been hoping you would react to this song. It’s such a banger musically it’s difficult to grasp how incredibly awesome the meaning of the song and lyrics.
"We've turned our hands to guns, trade in our thumbs for ammunition,
I must forewarn you of my disorder, or my condition,
'Cause when the sun sets, it upsets what's left of my invested interest,
Interested in putting my fingers to my head,
The solution is, I see a whole room of these mutant kids,
Fused at the wrist, I simply tell them they should shoot at this,
Simply suggest my chest and this confused music,
It's obviously best for them to turn their guns to a fist."
Love twenty one pilots and just went to their Icy Tour at MSG in NYC and I'm glad to tell you that they are in fact playing this song live!
This song is so important to me 💗 and yes! It is on this tour's set list!!
Yes!!!!!!👍
Oh hi! We're mutuals on twitter, I think.
@@C-SD hi there!!!
I just saw them aug 27, 2022 in Toronto and it was an amazing concert. He is very interactive with the audience.
FINALLY!! I've wanted u to do this for ages
I think I've never seen so much energy in a person
I don't know if they play it on this tour, but they have played it before and I was AMAZING!
Hope they do!😊
This and many of their songs are written about mental health and the struggles that so many young people and old go thru. I really think the most important thing they want people to know is no matter who you are what age you are or how bad things seems there are other people out there with their own things maybe not the same as you but connecting with others and just talking can make the difference. I might be wrong on their message or intent but i do believe there is a power inside all people that can lift others up and in turn help themselves to deal with life situations. Maybe they mean don't drive yourself to shoot down all help with your guns or maybe they mean they are so worried for others dealing with issues alone that they can't sleep. Either way this is probably my favorite song from them and honestly they have like 25-30 of my all time favorite songs
First! You should listen to Redecorate by Twenty One Pilots!
That song is the one of theirs that hits me the most...I'm a bit of a pack rat, and also have depression. Many times I've thought..my family is going to have to deal with all this stuff when I die.
this is my favorite song by TØP the message behind it just means so much to me
Been waiting for this one, its one of my all time fave tøp songs, so thank you!:D
One thing a therapist should be able to do is see the signs of suicidal ideation or descriptions of self harm. Just saying.. that’s what this is about.
YOU NEED TO LISTEN AND REACT TO CAR RADIO. probably their most popular song
Love your videos! Keep up the great reactions, you rock! 🤘❤️
Saw them in Toronto, absolutely spectacular. The entire arena was sold out and was singing along to every song
PS there is writing at beginning of video. Under the Asia scrip, Ramen funded video. Good reaction.
It may be that you’ve stopped listening to the words of 21P at the wrong time in your journey as a therapist?
COME ON!! when you put your hat over your headphones just VIBING, i felt a spiritual connection to you lmaoo
I haven’t heard twenty one pilots since I saw them in 2016 what a throwback thanks man
It depends on what show you go to, they tend to play different songs at different sized shows
I saw this song live in Montreal 2days ago, I nearly collapsed
Don't take this the wrong way, but to be a Psychotherapist (if you are) reacting to this, you have been simpler than the mechanism of a pacifier.
The good thing about TØP is that songs can mean different things to different people.
Wow great song. I wasn't expecting that. I can't help but feel better listening to them. It odd. I went a whole year only listening to music. Its wasn't a good time and I couldn't concentrate so I bought a bass headphones and turn the "valume" to 11 and let my eye lashes vibrate out lol
😂😂😂👍👍👍
this song hasnt been played since the album came out sadly. but i have a lot of concert videos on my channel if you wanna see some live! i have many of Trees specifically haha
I can't wait for you to see them live!!! ❤️
Me too! It’s almost time!😊
Y’all get a little frustrated how he breaks down the other lyrics songs but doesn’t do the same with twenty one pilots songs? For example NF reacting vídeos get like 20 to 25 minutes and he is like all the time pausing and saying what he thinks about it and that’s really good. It is entertaining and really interesting to know what he thinks as person and as a therapist. But he doesn’t do the same with twenty one pilots songs even tho the depth of the lyrics are worth to hazard a guess or an opinion.
Don’t get me wrong. I really like the channel, im just sharing something I noticed.
Probably because I don’t understand them all. I’m learning day by day but these lyrics are DEEP! they’ll get longer with time😊👍
@@ReactionTherapyOfficial I think once you get used to Tyler’s metaphors it will become easier. There are recurring themes throughout the songs and albums. And sometimes he will find different ways to illustrate what he is trying to convey. His lyricism is very poetic. But it’s usually safe to assume he is dealing on some level with issues of mental health, dark thoughts/inner demons, insecurities, or faith.
Love your reactions!
Yes! You'll see this one and it's awesome! You'll have an amazing experience!!! I just went to the Cleveland show! That was my 4th. Many more to come, I hope.
I would like to make a suggestion, Twenty One Pilots - heavydirtysoul
I can not wait for him to do nicko and the niners
So excited!!
Me too😊
Tom you just make my day!!
💃🕺❤
Thanks so much Wendy!😊
They use the mask to to hide behind from there anxiety and it could be easy to take off when they want. This is about people or fans who have thoughts of taking there life. By using duck tape it is harder to take off. Remember at the beginning he promised the parents they won't do it again. He can't sleep when he knows some fans are thinking of suicide.
Vessel album is a masterpiece
React to Time to Say Goodbye - twenty one pilots
Day 2 of asking Tom to react to Zevia - why am I alive
Que raro ver un psicólogo religioso oír a twenty one pilots 😎🤨
Really? It seems like a match made in heaven😊👍
I love this one ❤
Hey man what show will you be going to this tour? Or were u just saying you hope they do play this if you get the chance to see them live
I don't understand how an actual therapist could miss the OBVIOUS meanings of so many songs. It makes me feel these reactions are fake, just jamming to the vibe rather than paying attention.
You are so awesome
Dude, this reaction is pretty much an advertisement for NOT seeing you as a therapist. This song is super clearly about self harm and fear of others hurting themselves or others. Yes, it’s a banger…. But if you’re reacting to this as a therapist, it’s pretty disappointing that you’re this mystified about the song’s lyrics’ meaning.
Do Post Molone “Love Hate Letter to Alcohol”!!!!
nice
❤
👉❤️👈 🔥💯🔥
lets go another TOP reaction !!
I've seen a couple comments contextualizing sleep as a theme in the song. All very on point. Another perspective I wanted to add was their other song Ode to Sleep. Tyler talks about what sleep is to him and how sleep gives him the opportunity to relax from constantly fighting his own inner demons. So layer that on top of the interpretations about how he wrote the song to tell fans he's not stopping until he's helped us deal with our issues, and stop using our Guns for Hands
Glad to see more TØP reactions!
Thanks😊
You went to the show right? Man I woulda sent u the set list if I knew U were going so u coulda k own every song! I binged that playlist for a month before show! Was AMAZING!!
YES ANOTHER TØP REACTION 😍
Btw this song is on the icy tour 🙂
