    Wow, Swamiji I had to make so much research on these ideas, I could not finish the discourse in one part but will continue the v 53 tomorrow, I need to think about what I learnt today first. Thank you so much for all the clarifications.

    You have a good sense of humour SwamiJi - I like it! It makes a difference and gives the listening and learning a more personal touch; many thanks for your time and patience, also, for some of the explanations given in layman terms, in order for us (the audience) to achieve a greater understanding - appreciated. Namaste.

    Swamiji, namaste!
    Thank you for the wonderful satsang!
    I quote the transcendent words of a tiger among the guru Nisargadatta Maharaj about the nature of Brahman.
    As the Absolute I am timeless and infinite, I am Awareness without knowing my awareness.
    Endless, I express myself as space. Timeless, I express myself as time. If there is not space and duration,
    then I am not able to realize Myself. When space and time come, then there is Consciousness,
    in it the whole totality of Creation takes place, and various phenomena enter in it into being.
    I, by Myself, descend into this consciousness, and in this consciousness I express Myself in myriad ways in countless forms.
    In that essence, this is the very structure of Creation, the question of a separate individuality is not worth it at all.
    What it is? [Holds a bag of apples] It makes no difference
    between these fruits, a goat or a human being.
    It's all food products, all three are food only.
    All Creation, every living being, they are all made of five elements, and the behavior of each creature
    is determined by a combination three gunas: sattva, rajas and tamas. There is no place for a question
    about individual responsibility for anything that happens in the world. Just taking on such responsibility, a person suffers.
    Consciousness of oneself as existing, five elements and three gunas - that's the total sum of all universal Manifestation.
    There is no awareness of your own in your original state
    awareness, therefore, there is no question of knowledge.
    Knowledge comes with the appearance of the body and consciousness. This knowledge in reality is ignorance,
    and all that knowledge that will be based on it, will also be ignorance.
    At the moment of birth, the world is very pure, but it appears dirty because you are identified with the body.
    Since you are not aware of your "I Am -ness" in its original purity, you refer to all sorts of books and Sages,
    seeking to obtain self-determination.
    Parabrahman does not even know Himself. When we come to the conclusion that you don't exist, I don't exist,
    then what remains, we mark as Parabrahman, but what is Parabrahman?
    You can't describe it, so you shut up and become quiet. I am also quiet.
    Parabrahman cannot be compared to anything.
    OM TAT SAT
    ओम् तत् सत्

    Swami, how does realizing self as brahman burn up the accumulated karma? Don't the effects of action unfold regardless of our ignorance or knowledge? Or is it thought by the time one reaches self realization, all karmas have been resolved?

    Testimony. Gurudev sastanga darsan. Namaste. Good morning. Your voice is not yours it’s Brahma bani. Bramha’s nadh or sound. I jibatma was already in your refuge through your classes. You have freed myself from all coverings of possible ignorance. But I also see it should not be considered as pride or ignorance when I observed so. My eyes see all the unseen that were covered before. Thank you for the blessings. Myself is nothing other than Brahman I take your sikchya as blessings. Myself is offering you flowers around your neck, most beautiful clothings, arati around you. I lit up the lamp in front of you. I do mala japa of your self. I thank you. Bow my head to your knees. I do puja of you. O God please provide my gurudev the highest throne of peace which you already are. Please keep it up that way. Jai Shankar Jai Vedanta. I seek your darsan in live through your wish of media although I find you alwaysJai Ishwor pranam. Apologies if I made any inferior comment about your self.

    The subject and objects dualities are real because you are experiencially living it. The same is false because Consciousness is living itself. You are Consciousness in a mind posture and living the lies that you are telling yourself. See through your own mind posture and the subject and objects dualities disappear and pure consciousness remains all by itself in its own infinite reality.

    is there anything to knowing Brahman other than the basic concept "I am everything"? it seems that knowledge of this simple fact is the necessary and sufficient condition for enlightenment. It seems that righteousness is also necessary to escape the cycle of rebirth, by burning off the karma. this section of the text is confusing to me, because it suggests that wisdom is all it takes to merge with all-pervasive consciousness.

    • @rsr9200
      @rsr9200 4 роки тому +3

      I interpret what I heard somewhat differently. My understanding is that one is already Brahman, always was and always will be. Knowledge or wisdom is needed to remove the ignorance or misunderstanding that one is something other than Brahman. Swamiji likened this to removing garbage from one’s kitchen. Once this ignorance of the self is eliminated one remains established in one’s true nature as Brahman, i.e., unborn, unchanging, limitless Consciousness. Since Brahman was never born the question of rebirth is dissolved for a realized being.

    • @thomashoppes8594

      @@rsr9200 taking out the garbage, right. And like the proverbial lion looking in the reflection every day, to remind himself of his true nature. Idk. I remind myself of this everyday, but don't really feel "enlightened". I guess if I need to dissolve my ego and entire personality, there is still work to be done.. that doesn't seem very enlightened either. Karma Yoga seems like the best approach once the initial "discovery" is made about atma = Brahman

    • @rsr9200
      @rsr9200 4 роки тому +2

      @@thomashoppes8594 Speaking from a position of ignorance, my sense is that one does not strive to dissolve one’s ego or personality aka ahamkara or I-notion or the apparent I; rather, the appearance of reality that is presented to the ignorant mind by this apparent I starts to fade as one starts to remove ignorance from the mind until its reality is finally negated when ignorance is totally removed (i.e., upon self-realization). Ultimately, I think it all comes down to how one’s understanding of reality evolves which again depends on how one’s mind is wired. For folks like me, currently the apparent I is more real than the real I or Atma/Brahman although we understand that Vedanta tells us otherwise. Consequently, karma and rebirth which operate on the apparent I are equally real for us now. However, I subscribe to the view that the practices of karma yoga, bhakti yoga, and raja yoga in some combination will enable one to dilute the reality of ahamkara to a point where one may be able to negate it to attain moksha. If not, perhaps there is rebirth for the apparent I but for me it is either moksha in this life or bust!

    • @thomashoppes8594
      @thomashoppes8594 4 роки тому

      @@rsr9200 that makes a lot of sense to me. I know this is a difficult thing to put these kinds of details and earthly perspective to. We're just dealing with Atma Bodha, or self knowledge with these lectures. Sometimes I wish Swami would branch out into other topics. He seems to stay very close to the basic heart of vedanta... maybe the other stuff comes more naturally when that true nature of atma is realized.

    • @rsr9200
      @rsr9200 4 роки тому

      @@thomashoppes8594 I suppose Swamiji has chosen not to stray too far from Sri Shankaracharya’s script in the Atma Bodha. Having benefited from listening to a number of Swamiji's podcasts on Vedanta I suspect that he is refraining from delving into certain topics, such as maya, which may not lend themselves to exposition within the confines of this text.

    258 Brama of BRAHMA
    Buddha details the behavioural patterns of the awakened, enlightened, mutated being ( BRAHMA ) with regard to the immediate neighborhood (VIHARA) (in BRAHMA VIHARA) as
    Maitri= friendship
    Karuna= compassion
    Mudita= happy/celebrating on the success of neighbour
    Upeksha=sacrificing (losing) for the benefit of the neighbour in need.
    Love for the neighbour or civility is the single word encompassing all these details.Brahma simply means to step across (brah) the boundary (ma) in LOVE for the neighbour.Further MA stands for the truth learnt from past experiences and the quality and safety processes set from them. Hence Brahma implies (daring beyond the known) SCIENTIFIC TEMPER also.
    Word BRAHMA stands for Love and scientific temper.
    On a second look we'll be able to see a BRAHMA hiding in the name, ABRAHAM. Abraham's is a story of leaving MA. He left his own family, village, nation, to live a wanderers life. Story emphatically says he lived in tabernacles ( tents ). Willingness to leave present concepts for more correct ones is SCIENTIFIC TEMPER. Not settling down with past quality, safety and truth through systems and processes is scientific temper.
    In Indian languages the Creator is given the name BRAHMA.
    In the beginning…
    There was only one MA…
    Omni..is the only descriptive word fitting the attributes of the original MA. MA is the boundary.. Boundary of the Omnipresent? Limitlessness is the limit of the omnipresent BRAHMA. Creating is crossing the boundary by Omnipresent. Creation is limiting own boundlessness and letting other (TA) entity to come into being. Beyond robotical obedience the creature is given freewill by the Creator.
    When the Almighty created me he receded from the space given to me. His receding for my sake is BRAH. New entity ME is created similar to the MA of the creator, just short of the OMNI adjectives. Given the freewill and ability to understand, imagine, create,operate. Freedom to affirm or negate even His existence (hiding behind the scenes). Me is set amidst a conglomerate other similar beings. A possibility to interact with other MAs to overcome the limitations caused by the lack of Omni features is also given. MA is able to love the adjacent MA and work together ( as a samkha/ yoga). The ability to surpass the limitations is given. Ability to connect/ link with the adjacent MA is given as ling/lingo/ language. Freedom to choose from different modes of interaction ( MAAYA way or BRAHMA way) leads MA in an uncertain path. Though Brahma idea leads to goodness of MA as well as neighbour, one is not robotically wired to love the neighbour. MA can choose either MAAYA type of interaction or BRAHMA type. Rising towards the Omni features is possible only by BRAHMA type of interaction of MAs. When MAAYA behaviour rules the interaction, MA, the boundary gets reinforced and MA gets isolated. Then MA isn't able to work together with the adjacent MA. Story of Babel tower of Bible can be understood as an example of MAAYA. When BRAHMA type of interaction is chosen by an individual, SA crosses the limit MA to interact directly with TA (sa+ta) and satya prevails in that Brahma Vihara. Jesus' Kingdom of God, where the powerless neighbour is treated as King God is equivalent of Buddha's Brahma Vihara. In Kingdom of God / Brahma Vihara MA moves towards the Omni features. KOG / BV is observed around the node of an awakened/ enlightened/ mutated being called dwijaath or born-again. In those nodes alone we find CIVILITY and SCIENTIFIC TEMPER blooming. It's futile to look for those blooms where MAAYA rules. Fruits of development and better life follow blooms of civility and scientific temper.
    Brama of BRAHMA is that CIVILITY and SCIENTIFIC TEMPER forces SA to move towards TA by stepping backward or forward across MA, making it insignificant. SA's decision in BRAHMA VIHARA is always reasonable and beneficial to TA making it the predictable SATYA. Brama is the Indian word for rotation/cyclical repetition. Cyclical repetition (brama, different from common usage) brings in the predictability and truth.
    Brama of BRAHMA is "BRAHMA SATYA", is love and scientific temper.

      "Brahm" or "Brahman" is different from "Brahma" the creator God. Buddha talked about Brahma loka where God Brahma resides, not "Brahm" or "Brahman" of Upanishads which he had no idea about. Brahman is different from Brahma, don't intermix the concept. Brahma is part of Trinity with Brahma being a Creator God, Vishnu being a preserver 'nd Shiva being destroyer. Brahman is beyond Trinity.
      People confuse Brahma the creator God of Vedas with Brahman of Upanishads. Ik Swami has written "Brahma" instead of "Brahm", this is 'coz there's a subtle way of pronouncing "Brahm" 'nd "Brahma" in Sanskrit. That's why modern scholars use neuter form "Brahman" instead of "Brahm" to avoid any misunderstanding. They aren't same!!!!!
      Brahma- Creator God part of Hindu Trinity who lives in Brahma loka like how Vishnu lives in Vaikuntha 'nd Shiva in Kailasha. Thr are multiple Brahmas for each Universe!
      Brahmin- Priest class, one of the four varnas.
      Brahm or Brahman- Non-Dual underlying substratum spoken of in Upanishads.

    We often idolize noble concepts and lose its significance. The idea of BRAHMA may seperated from self by just equating it to the Creator..
    Verbal meaning of BRAHMA can transform the way individual interacts with the environment..
