this is a great series, but i have a few questions about the drawing method demonstrated: 1. how would you go about drawing from life with this method? 2. how would you go about drawing from your imagination with this method?
Hello, those are great questions. 1. DVI has another video series available through our store that goes through the entire process of drawing from life using this method, you can view it here: www.davinciinitiative.org/store/p21/Introduction_to_Advanced_Observational_Drawing.html 2. This method helps to train your eye to find unity and proportion. When you spend time drawing from life or copying master drawings from other artists, it inherently trains your eye to draw more proportionately when creating artwork from your head.
This is a great set of demonstrations. Were you planning to do something on Part III of the Bargue course as well? I'm not sure to what extent current ateliers cover Part III, or whether they go straight on to cast drawing.
Much of Part III can be completed using the same methods as the earlier parts. Some ateliers spend more time on Bargue plates than others, and you will find quite a bit of variation on how much they are emphasized in different ateliers.
This is a really great series, thank you for making them. Are there also going to be videos about how to incorporate this technique in a drawing from life? If someone is drawing from life, there wouldn't be a notional space box around the model so how would someone be able to note where the follow through lines go and transfer that to their drawing?
Hi Robert, we do have another class available from our website on still life drawing that shows how to apply these techniques to a subject you are observing. You can check it out here: www.davinciinitiative.org/store/p21/Introduction_to_Advanced_Observational_Drawing.html
I understand the reason for straight lines but how and when to turn them into curves? (for instance I am doing plate 2 mouths and clearly the second of each pair is the same as the first but with curves instead of straights)
Hi Ken, the videos are being released one at a time on an every other week schedule. If you would like to download the entire series immediately and not wait for the rest of the videos to be uploaded to UA-cam, you can do so by visiting the DVI store. All proceeds from sales of the class go to support providing this training in K-12 schools. www.davinciinitiative.org/store/p22/Bargue_and_the_21st_Century.html
I GUARANTEE YOU WIL NEVER BE ABLE TO DRAW ACURATELY UNLES YOU MEASURE WITH YOUR EYE FIRST, THEN MEASURE WITH STICK TO DOUBLE CHYECK. THIS ISNT EVEN SIGHT SIZE.

Would you lead a drawing with through lines or would you go notional space box > envelope > through lines > further refinement of contour?
notional space box > envelope > through lines > further refinement of contour

OK, thank you.

Where is 15-18. Was really looking forward to seeing the completion of the piece
The videos are being released on an every-other-week basis until the entire course is available.
Sorry that's 14-18
