My Golf Cart Blew Up

- The internet told me I could over volt a 36 motor with 48 volts, they said it was fine, multiple people said it was fine. It just caught on fire.. then caught the connector switch on fire because the motor decided it was just one thing now and flushed all the power though, havent check the battery on the golf cart yet but it should be ok
you made it to UA-cam recommended, good job lmao
Lmao the way the connector was smoking more than the motor! Dope video man!
This is what happens when you don't understand how motor controllers work or basic wiring diagrams
@JAMIEGittins-f3y or when you over volt a 45 year old motor
Without a way to keep the rotor centered it won't spin thus dumping all the power into one winding and damaging the motor. Try again with the motor installed!
Hmmmm, soo I did it with my rxv motor and it just made noise, but thats brushless. Your probably right with this kind of motor, thats def what shorted the switch
I wouldn't have led you astray, When electrical equipment tells you its operating voltage it means it.
It’s no diff than when we run 96 volts on 12 pumps for car with hydraulics. It’ll work for a bit. But not long. Ya really need a 48v motor. That’s not that spendy.
@fineartonfire_5327 lol, yea I figured I'd test it before swapping. I'm working on the hall sensor wiring for the brushless 48v I have on it now
If you had wired it correctly all it would have done was made it more powerful and have a higher top end obviously you wired it wrong I understand this because I like overvolting e-bikes and mobility scooters this is amazing how fast they go when you wire them correctly and apply appropriate voltages
@JAMIEGittins-f3y it's a motor from the 80s so they didn't have the same tolerance back then. Everything is hooked up correct, 36v motors are pretty weak. Over voting a few volts isn't that much, but 36 to 48/52 is a big step up
Don't get me wrong this incorrect information got you plenty of views which is all that matters yeah
@JAMIEGittins-f3y lol I was willing to risk it because I have other motors to use and the motor would prob be slow anyway if it did work, and no one would give me any info on you tube lol
