1:10:30 I'm pretty sure I'm the one who said that about Ghost Light to Andrew at a convention! Actually, my point was more about the context of Control. You only know its the "control" of an experiment if you you know that the other character is the experiment, and they aren't named that.
Wonderful! Andrew Cartmel is a fantastic writer! Thanks for sharing! Also on a side-note your efforts on recovering Heil Honey I’m Home! are wonderful, is there any update I can ask on how that is going in terms of a release? Thanks!
Completely agree with Andrew on Peter and Colin playing it too straight. I feel that was the same with Tennant and Smith. Too normal, even when Doctor Who went mainstream. He should have been producer and it was a shame the original run ended on Survival. The show was only getting better. I honestly don't get anyone saying that "Rose" followed on from "Survival" in tone. The whole show had changed by then. You had a female companion who was more realistic, but that was about it...Rose wasn't Ace by any stretch. The Doctor was different. The stories were different. I think if the classic run had gone beyond "Survival", it would have been a different beast altogether. There's a reason why you have Classic Who and New Who.
I thought of Happiness Patrol as a good entry into the minds of SZasz and RD Lang, and the world of forced psychiatric treatment, where emotions and emotional normal is enforced, sadly that message still gets lost a bit. Although it existed before in Sun Makers and Makra Terror as Correction Centres and Parades. All filled with similar notions of authoritarian control.
Very enjoyable interview, thank you! As a footnote though, I'd say 'beating round the bush' doesn't quite mean the same as 'going round the houses'!

28:20: Pity Eric Saward is so underrated. Only 3+ multi-story writer of the classic series who _didn't_ write a turkey. I have huge respect for him.
Great interview!
The Vinyl Detective series is awesome!
