Who Are Tarzan’s Parents? | Messed Up Origins Explained: Discovering Disney

- Over the years, I have seen so much speculation, theorizing, and questions surrounding the identity of Tarzan’s parents, and that’s why today I am going to explain who they truly were, here they were traveling to, and how the legend of their death has changed. To begin to understand who this man and woman were, we first need to look back at Tarzan’s earliest adventures that were originally written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Specifically we must go back to the beginning of this twenty four novel saga which was titled Tarzan of the Apes. And it is here we learn almost everything we know about Tarzan’s parents who were revealed to be named John and Alice Clayton also known as Lord and Lady Greystoke of England.

I believe that was debunked due to the location of where frozen takes place being too far away from where Tarzan’s parents were shipwrecked, Also frozen 2 confirmed that they were different shipwrecks.

FINALLY people realize that Tarzan is not the brother of Anna and Elsa
I've basically been telling everyone the same thing. Both ships went down, but in different ways, the two couples look nothing alike, and it was shown in both Frozen movies that Anna and Elsa's parents died, and I didn't even see the movie.

That theory makes zero sense anyway, they don't even live in the same world, and clearly live in different times. Anna and Elsa's people had swords, spears, and magic. Tarzan lives in a more realistic setting without magic, in an age of guns (I believe the only "sword" seen is a machete to cut through jungle, correct me if I'm wrong).

In the original novels, he realized he wasn't an ape, so he didn't want to have a hairy face, he had already found his father's knife so used it to scrape ( ouch ) off his facial hair. And he cut this hair too with it.

I would definitely attempt to build a home where I could feel safe, comfortable, and somewhat normal, but at the same time I would make it a priority to learn my environment and how to live in harmony with it.
Great video! This was so refreshing to hear! So many people have just retold that annoying thing about him being Elsa's brother, even though it doesn't add up. I can tell you did a lot of research.
Tarzan was one of my favorite Disney films and though Disney either misunderstands or changes some ideas of the stories they tell in there films, there still amazing stories retold in an amazing way.

Can you do a video telling Shego's full story from Kim Possible? Because I want to know why she has broken apart from her family of super heroes to become a criminal, and subsequently Dr Drakken's henchwoman.
Saw the episode a couple of months back that explains it. Basically they were annoying her and she decided to turn evil just to spite them. Not very complex or interesting of a heel turn but it’s basically what happened.

There is a very strong resemblance in the boat sinking in Frozen and in Tarzan. I also noticed there's an easter egg in Frozen 2 to Tarzan when Elsa enters the cave of memories.

Excellent book, except for the part where Tarzan teaches himself how to spell his own name. Scientifically impossible.

I can buy that he taught himself how to read. The book says his mother specifically packed children's picture books so she could teach him later on. He could associate the words with the pictures and he had a few years to do so, but unless he was able to pronounce his name out loud to another human being and they were to tell him exactly which letters are used, there's no possible way for him to learn it.
He could only write words, not say them.
I wrote a five star review for that book. I don't hate it.
All I'm saying is the author just glossed over that one detail.

I was so scared this was just going to be about that ridiculous Frozen/Tarzan theory. I'm glad we got some actual info about the parents based on the books. Their lives ended so tragically. It's sad that they didn't get the chance to raise their own son.

Ozzy&Drix2001 maybe sabor went back and ate the bodies because when Tarzan returns we don’t see any skeletons and I doubt kala buried them 🤷🏻♀️

I agree. Lilo and Stitch had crossovers with 4 different TV shows. Also, Atlantis was supossed to have a follow-up TV show that would have had a crossover with Gargoyles (as Demona was still out there at the time) and the Hercules TV show (wich BTW is in a different continuity from the Hercules movie) had a crossover with Aladdin.
I can only imagine that with both Tarzan and Atlantis being action/adventure films set in the 1910 decade, there could have been a crossover between them eventually if it hadn't been for the cancellation of both shows (Atlantis before production, Tarzan after only one season).

@@Lyokoheros-KLPXTV I mean, the second season had only 3 episodes. My guess is that it was supossed to continue, but I can't know for sure.
@@Alejandroigarabide honestly I wasn't even sure how it is divided into seasons (I watched it mostly way past the premiere), so I didn't realize that... but in this case yeah it's pretty likely it was supposed to be more. After all I don't know any series that would have such disproportionate numbers of episodes in the seasons.
From the beginning I always imagined Tarzan's parents both had a background in construction because of the way they managed to build that treehouse bungalow in no time at all even though such an undertaking would have taken an entire crew of professional builders in a manner of at least a week.
That's definitely a good point - and a better base for discovering who they are than books, which are clearly non-canon (just the inspiration for Disney's Tarzan. I would say at least one of them has an engineering education. I mean they rather were rich, so they coldn't be just mere construction workers, more likely something like foreman of the construction site.

I’m so glad Frozen 2 debunked the theory about Tarzan being Anna and Elsa’s brother. It made absolutely NO sense right from the get-go! Plus, Frozen 2 also shows that Agnar and Iduna’s ship was NOT the shipwreck Ariel and Flounder explored, and they weren’t going to the Kingdom of Corona for Rapunzel and Eugene’s wedding. However, it could still be possible that Rapunzel is Anna and Elsa’s cousin.
Connor Plisga I’m still confused about the theory that Rapunzel is Anna and Elsa’s cousin. This is because Iduna is a Northuldran woman and no other parent of Rapunzel claims that they even know the Northuldra. Also Agnarr’s mom died before giving birth to anymore children. The only way they could be cousins is that they are second cousins and that King Frederic or Queen Arianna’s parent is the sibling to King Runeard or his wife.

When I first saw this cartoon I knew nothing of the actual story of Tarzan I assumed albeit incorrectly that it was Disney's attempt and creating a cartoon version of the already well known Disney film The Swiss Family Robinson primarily because I saw them building a treehouse like they had done

Theory: the only reason Tarzan’s lived is because the gorillas leader had lost its baby also in the wild if a animal loses its baby most of the time it will take in any lost or abandoned human baby it finds and raise it :3 I hope you like it.

Clayton's origins makes him actually interesting. He is no longer a random hunter but the same blood of Tarzan.

Except he wasn't actually debunking it. I mean this video is based purely on the books, which are clearly NOT canon for Disney's Tarzan, as the movie blatantly contradicts them. So this video itself is more like speculation on a movie... debunked by the very same movie!

I think Netflix also made there own little version on Tarzan called Tarzan&Jane. But in this version Both Tarzan and Jane are young Teenagers

Hey I just finished the Tangled series and saw you do videos on them. I have a thought. Since Eugene is revealed to be King Edmund son, and Adira was one of his loyal subjects. Did she know all along that he was Edmund's son?
6:25 well all what was stated to that point shows that these books are clearly NOT canon to Disneys Tarzan, so they are not actual explanation about his parents. I mean it's still not out of the question that Tarzan's family past was similar to that... but it still just a merepossibilite, not much more canonical than anything somebody would just made up. As being original story doesn't actually matter when Disney clearly choose another path.
So Clayton being Tarzan's cousin may be truth, but may also not be.
Though few things certainly are like in the original story. His parents have most likely by of high class (they seem refined and elegant, even their gun seems have some classy ornament, which for me meant it wasn't just any weapon but one from skilled craftsman, which wouldn't be affordable to all), it's also likely they were rich as they certainly seem to be well educated (end because this gun was most likely expensive as I said) most likely at least one of them has engineering education and generally knowledge on construction (and also physics, as they were seen to use some simple machinery there).
So they definitely couldn't have been some un-educated low-class citizens. I would say at the very worst some skilled craftsman, but most likely more than that. (Yeah they weren't all elegant on the ship but they don't have to dress up like this whole time, as I guess it's not always suitable form sea travel, and they could actually be quite humble, so not willing to show they high status all the time - though sure that's just pure speculations)
I think his parents actions make sense, no matter what the circumstances are humans will always try to create a sense of normality. I mean given the resources most people will build furniture (even unnecessary furniture) and decorations if left in an area for a long enough time. This would probably be even more amplified if they had a baby on the way since it’s human nature to create a safe home for a new baby.
Since the were aristocrats and civil servants, they wouldn’t have had much survival training anyway. So whether it actually led to their downfall or not I think it makes sense.
I also kind of wish they had shown that Tarzan’s mother had died first (but not the bloody killing of his father scene) since even kid me thought it was a bit sketchy that one leopard took down two adults, who had guns, when Tarzan could defeat it easily unarmed as an adult

A boy in my class said he hated the theory that Tarzan, Anna and Elsa were all siblings; he claimed that he didn't like the Disney universe to be so connected in a way like that.

well this way would be definitely not making sense... but actually Disney universe is pretty much connected. Sophia the First made it canon. Albeit Tarzan is not among canonically connected parts, while Frozen is.
