This song was the inspiration for a momentous scene in a story I couldn't finish. It's sci-fi/fantasy story of an unusual boy. A clingy, affectionate and academically genius boy growing up with loving parents and a strong bond with an older brother. But the rigors of life soon start to set in. He doesn't understand all the meaningless hate, spite, aggression, and distancing from people because of the harmless differences in his personality compared to the norms. He struggles to adapt while the support of his parents and brother get taken away because of their professional commitments and an ongoing war against a magical world encroaching on Earth. He gets left alone in their mansion and becomes a recluse as he studies the magic of the other world, but the isolation only makes his mental health get worse. One day he loses control of his growing magical power and accidentally kills one of the cleaning staff. He hides away in a crawl-space while he freaks out, and the military come looking for him. His family tries to get him to come out peacefully but some military fanatics try to forcefully subjugate him, treating him like one of the invaders. After some fighting he escapes, and the military launches a campaign to kill him. Years later he's still at large, going progressively more insane, hostile to almost everyone, and actively attacks Earth's military and government. His brother became a high authority in Earth's defense force against the other world, and the main character thinks he helped the military try to kill him. The scene: The main character sneaks into the military compound his brother is housed at, sneaking into his office where he's sleeping on a cot. He phases through the ceiling, stalking around his sleeping brother with a poisoned dagger in hand while his mental illness throws him through a kaleidoscope of memories and conflicting thoughts. It breaks his mind and he unwittingly sneaks himself into his brother's arms like he did as a child. His brother wakes up to find him shivering and unresponsive in his arms with his back to him, and a mean looking dagger cradled in his arms. I didn't know how to continue on from there. The character was most likely going to die, either then or not much further into the future. My own mental health was pretty precarious around that time, and writing that story did me no favors. It's been off-limits since then.
