You're allowed fish there, and there are Brookies. You can even fish the actual basin. Crazy! My dad lives in Franconia, I always fish it. It's amazing, looking into the water, you would swear there's no fish, but put a worm on!! Last year, i swear i saw a smallmouth bass in there!

Ever considered a float tube? Love the videos but you would do a lot better with a floating line-sinker combo.

Thank you Matthew for your suggestions. Yes, a float tube is a must, especially for ponds and lakes where casting from shore is impossible. It is also extra weight. I'm exploring places for the first time and have learned that a flowting tube is something worth considering on my second trip. I do occasionally use a floating line with weighted flies, but many of the places in these remote areas are full of twigs and branches, especially near beaver dams and huts, which are also great fishing spots. On Black Pond I fished streamers, and i'll occasionally throw a weighted fly into a waterfall to get some depth.

You should get a drone! Any bear tracks? Mountain Lion tracks?

I have a drone, but it adds weight and what might start out as a calm morning can get windy by the time I reach the ponds, and there are areas with no flight restrictions.

Plenty of bear and moose tracks. As it started to get dark and I started to head back I came a across a muddy section where the bear tracks were heading in my direction and I noticed they were still filling with water, where my tracks from earlier in the day were completely filled.

Is this open all year round?

Funny you should ask. There is a season and someone questioned if I had been fishing off season, which I explained was not when the filming was made, but when I finished editing and posted the video. I typically tell people the date at the beginning of each video.

Why is it called Lonesome Lake?

I don't know. I did a little research and came up empty. Whatever the original reason was Lonesome Lake isn't very lonesome today as there is an AMC Hut, which I understand may be open year round, and the lake is on the Appalachian trail. And there is a little beach area near the AMC hut, which gets plenty of use.
