  • On Tuesday February 6th, a cold front affected Jamaica and although it brought some rain, the major impact was the wind that caused very rough seas. It was a freak storm that came out of nowhere.
The northern coastline was affected and there was damage to property, beaches, road etc.
I take you on a trip around Montego Bay to see the damage up close and marvel at the power of nature.

I've learned over the years that you must respect water especially fast moving bodies of water. Even in still water you can drown but a moving torrent of water is a different beast. Water is dense and anything I mean anything that floats no matter how large is going to get pounded, lifted and carried away. Concreate walls, cars, trucks, houses, you'll scratch your head when you see what water moves. I don't understand why people build close to the shore, it's just plain stupid.

    • @YohanPartap

Yes you have to respect the water, even if you can swim you have to be careful.

the more the Artic, Antarctic, and Greenland ice sheets h\melt, the higher are the seas, so when high winds from a storm or front come they raise the waves much higher

With a island low lying at sea level needs to prepare for global warming and rising of sea levels, the climate has changed . I saw for myself the buildings built so close to the waters edge now gone all over the island.
I have actually stood on Deadened Rd to watch the planes landing myself.

All that land will one day be destroyed by the sea, from Harmony Beach Park to the Baywest shopping centre. All that land was dumped with rocks and sand. That is why the Harmony Beach Park was called dumped up beach. At the front of the Baywest shopping centre, where that ramp that is used for entry to the building, that was once a pier that the boats used to docked to collect bananas. The sea will retake that land one-day, remember I said it

[8] For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.
The way we live our life on earth now will determine where you spend eternity when you die. One second after you die it's too late to live a life of purpose. It's too late to change your eternity. The question is what would you do with the time you have here on the earth?

Shoddy/cheap reclamation development back in the early 70s...they should have reinforced the sea wall using concrete to bind the rocks instead of just stacking the boulders/rocks loosely along the coastline for water/sea waves to penetrate the rocks...

We were on vacation when that happened Ocean Front at IHG Sunspree. 2 cruise ships anchored off shore that night as we could see the ships lights in the distance. The palm trees and ocean was blowing in the other direction. The waves were about 12-14 ft at times. I was waiting for a wall breach but thankfully only small splashes now and then it didn’t breach the wall. The next day a couple lounge chairs floated by a lot of seaweed and debris from the ocean. Sand took over the walkways along the resort from the shore but there was little damage. It was quite the thing to experience on a vacation!

The government needs to stop cheapening their development work . Those "seawalls/rock groins should have been reinforced by filling them up/encasing the rocks with top quality CONCRETE...instead of just stacking rocks out in the sea to be dismantled by wave action...TOTALLY CARELESS PLANNING/CONSTRUCTION...

I saw in Tunisia They have these star large shaped concrete things that interlock, maybe that can work

Dead end. Remembered when living in Jamaica, and went home one weekend from studying at the University of the West Indies to visit my parents, a group of us went to the night beach at deadend
It was so beautiful. God showing Jamaica sign. Too much corruption. The locals cannot go to the beach because the politicians sold the beaches to foreigners.

@@YohanPartap The Dead end beach used to be bigger, then out of the blue a section was cornered off and not available to the public because it was private property owned by the hotel.
To be honest a lot of the roads people who are not aware and are driving on were once the sea. Howard Cook highway for example was the sea. As a child on Sundays after church my father would take me and my big brothers to go and see the dredge sucking up the water. It was amazing! People used to say back then that the sea was going to take back it's course. Thanks for sharing the impact of the high waves on Montego Bay. Some acquaintances of mine, brother and uncle owned Pier One. You almost resemble them.
