Agree. It actually made me think how instead of this ps1 version, they could have made some changes to the black controller and had an anniversary ps2 controller.
@@greed-1914 Hey, next year is the 25th anniversary of the PS2. Maybe they'll do it. Oh, and then the next year is the 20th anniversary of the PS3! There won't be much of a difference with a PS2 style controller but they'll think of something.

I'm not sure about a PS2 theme, but I do agree with the colored buttons. I did buy these colored button stickers, and it sort of works hahaha. They stick out a little bit, but close enough
Yes. They already have a black dual sense, and a few tweaks gets you to a ps2 anniversary controller. Since they did stuff for the 20th anniversary, I thought it was a missed opportunity here. At least for me, the ps2 is where gaming really took off even though I had a ps1.
The reason we think it is gorgeous is purely because it is nostagic. Let's be honest. At the end of the day this is just a plain black controller. Our love for the original design is why we put it above the rest.
Went to my local Gamestop after the 30th Anniversary was announced, looking for an Astrobot Dual Sense. Ended up talking to the guy behind the counter for a half an hour, and then he offered me the last reservation of this controller. Was so worth it, but yeah I'm never opening it. So thanks Spawn, and Sony needs to do this more. Stuff like this can never hurt the Playstation brand.
The boxes are actually a throwback to the original packages for the DualShocks. Not sure how people missed that, it’s all inspired from the original packaging. I thought it was a great nod.
Totally agree with you Spawn Wave! I was so happy to see this controller announced and lucky enough to snag one before the sell out. I’ve been hoping they would make the face shape buttons match the original controller colors for awhile. With the PS4 controllers, you could get them in different colors and still maintain the classic button colors, rather than the monochrome colors that the PS5 controllers have now. As a PS1 fan and gamer when that was the current console, it makes my old heart glad 🙂
I want a PS2 version that's basically this controller but black instead of grey. If they do one for the 25th anniversary of the PS2 next year I'm definitely going to try to get one.
I'm thinking black outer plastic with either PS2 blue inner plastic or just blue print "Sony" logo on top and back. Maybe make the Mic Mute button glow red like the ANALOG indicator on the Dualshock as well, instead of the amber light.
I was meh at first about getting the PS Portal 30th anniversary edition since I already had one. Still bought it and after turning it on the blue led strip and the grey color of the portal is just beautiful and the PS colored logo just the cherry on top with the rest of the buttons. It has more character then just plain black and white. No regrets here.
I wish the the blue light was green like the original ps1, I haven’t opened mines yet still holding out on getting another one to open and the slim ps5 30th
I wish they would make a ps5 controller shaped like the dualshock style design. I don’t love the new shape of the dualsense. Also can we get some Hall effect sticks on an OEM controller, stick drift is ridiculous in this day and age…
Looks nice but I prefer the Astro Bot one. Also I dont get why people buy controllers just to display or keep sealed. You die tomorrow and dont get to enjoy them

I will definitely be using my 30th anniversary controller as it's the best feeling dual sense I've ever purchased in terms of analog stick feel and button feel. The same can't be said about other dual sense controllers. I feel like Sony has quality control issues with these. I have owned five of these including the 30th anniversary edition and three of the five have had issues. The controller that came with my PS5 in 2022 had rough feeling analog sticks when they were rotated at their extremes. I bought a black one around the same time that had a very mushy feeling triangle button. Most recently the controller that came with my PS5 pro was awful. It had very loud action buttons that hesitated when you press them to overcome a sticky feeling requiring more force lending to a cheap feeling. My two best controllers are my cosmic red and my 30th anniversary controller which both feel amazing.
Of course, I got 30th Anniversary PS Portal. Since it's a streaming system it might just be still usable at 40th Anniversary. Technically, there is nothing stopping it from being able to stream PS6 games in the future.

The 20th Anniversary DualShock 4 was my favorite controller during that era, so I was frothing at the mouth when they announced this one. I bought 2 since I actually use these to play games. One to use, one as a backup.
That’s why you buy 2, they could be nice and open a second run to mess with scalpers, and make it pre order based so that they make as many as the people are willing to pay up front.
I just realized something with the ps5. Usually in games when there is an action command to press a button it’s usually the color of the button. This generation the buttons haven’t been colored so anyone starting this generation never knew why.
the color indications for what player you are are based on the face buttons. green, pink, red, and blue. i think for this they should make the pink be yellow to go along with the yellow in the playstation logo
Interesting how people are talking about having difficulties getting this controller. I preordered mine on the PlayStation Direct store day one (the queue said an hour but it was less than 15) and when I got in everything was available except the PS5 Pro. I just ordered the standard Dualsense and it came in today. Nothing crazy or out of the ordinary, but the controller is quite nice.
Controllers like this i use to start new games. That way it gets used and gets to work but wont wear it out. Controller chaos makes some high quality custom controllers. I have a few from ps3 to ps5
Just received my control order from a scalper. I noticed that some video reviews don't have the PlayStation sticker. Is my order authentic? And before anyone says anything NO, the box doesn't seem to be tampered with. No damage to it. Any thoughts?
Couldn't agree more. Got mine yesterday and finished RE2 today with it. It's just gorgeous. The colored face buttons and PS logo alone make this my personal favorite so far, but the grey of the shell is spot on as well. Much better than the new chroma stuff where a pearl finish meets a matte one, which is just yikes, imo.
I had fallen into that trap too. I managed to get one during the initial launch date, and i was heavily debating getting a second one during the restock because i wanted to keep one in box and use the second one officially.
Same. I bought this controller to use with PS games on PC, especially ones that use the controller features that aren't available on an Xbox controller.
I got in on the first wave of pre-orders. It was a disaster though. A lot of people couldn't get into PS Direct store even when doing everything "right" on multiple devices (including myself). There was a window of time there where Walmart went live with it and I was able to secure one from there. Everywhere else was sold out in what felt like 3 minutes. I hate that the supply was so limited on these, but I'm happy I was able to secure one, as I don't have any PS5 controllers and have been wanting one for a couple of years now. I think it would have been cool if "SONY" would have been printed on the bottom of the touch pad just above the player indicator light.
I got the portal 30th anniversary and It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. I was surprised to find out I couldn’t play certain games on it even tho there on my PS5 like AC Syndicate.

I got the 30th anniversary elite controller, but why did it come with a usb lead instead of a type C as now it comes up too short when plugged into the back of the pro. Gotta get an adapter now.

I'm not a guy that would buy multiple controllers just because one is so cool looking or limited edition. I will handle the astro boy controller with care and will always wash my hands before using it. Also i will never... NEVER give it to someone else :DD
I managed to get one but now I am faced with a dilemma. Do I unbox and use it or do I keep it in the box and keep it on display because that is a fine box
Received mine from PS Direct yesterday and I'm quite happy with it. I feel like they did a better job than with the 20th anniversary Dual Shock 4. Also goes well with Design Lab Xbox controllers in the same color scheme!
Nah. The best PS5 controller is the 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge, of which I've got 4 of them (along with two 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 Pro bundles).
I barely use my limited edition controllers. When I bought the Skyward Sword Joy cons I just used it to play Skyward Sword. After that they went back in the box
I have yet to get a PS5 but I did have a PS1 and PS2. The 30th anniversary controller is the only thing I'd buy (and probably will for my eventual PS5 purchase) before I get a PS5 and just use it for steam till then. Hey Sony, just make the color scheme available past the "limited edition period", less the PS logo between the sticks. Leave the logo for the 30th anniversary edition controllers.
I hope you see my comment! I'm surprised this did not come with a usb c. I received the 30th anniversary portal, and the coolest thing ever is the USB C was Gray like the original ps1 controllers are.
Maybe they'll do a PS2 themed console and controller next year for the PS2's 25th anniversary. And then maybe the following year they'll do a PS3 20th anniversary that looks identical to the PS2 edition.
I did a quick search, and it looks like Sony will restock the 30th Anniversary PS5, DualSense controller, and DualSense Edge controller by midday (EST) on November 23rd. But this is only on PlayStation Direct, so you'll have to order from Sony.
I really wanted to get this controller, but scalpers have made it impossible. Sony should just make this available regularly.

I did a quick search, and it looks like Sony will restock the 30th Anniversary PS5, DualSense controller, and DualSense Edge controller by midday (EST) on November 23rd. But this is only on PlayStation Direct, so you'll have to order from Sony.
