This is great! Much better than staring at my minimalist dreadmill display for a more measured workout. Love the Watopia running path and this makes a nice addition.
Another great Lama video. Thanks for the informative and entertaining content in 2019. As we roll on to the New Year all the best to you Von and of course Max for 2020.
I wonder if there is indeed a velodrome in the works, whether the gradient would be variable on the banking, combined with steering it would make for interesting races.
@@velogoo Smart trainers just don't respond fast enough to gradient changes - it would feel weird. Also without accurate steering or collision detection between avatars, it would be almost impossible to try and ride in any sort of organised formation in such a small space. Not worth it with current tech.
tbf i think htere is a pretty logic answer to them , since running races IRL are usually 5/10/16(10em) or 21 / 42km and most routes in zwift have shorter or longer loops this will be the answer to for example a 8.6 normale route make it a perfect 10km start and finish on the track for the zwift running races
For workouts and doing natural Fartleks it has its benefits. Lots of treadmills have this feature and it is a good way to pass the time. Also for racing this could be awesome - would rather do a 3K or mile race on the track world
Actually a really cool add! Your avatar is just a spitting image of you Shane! Lol great video! Most importantly... Where can I get one of those awesome holiday Lama shirts you're wearing? Don't see it on Teespring!
I got it a few weeks back.... and I can't for the life of me find the email/order. Someone messaged it to me on Facebook and I purchased one right away. Look for "Fa la la la llama shirt" on Google would be the best bet.
I was hoping for a velodrome so we can have a go at the hour record and some more Mountain climbs like mont ventoux and col du tourmalet am getting bored with Alpe du zwift.
A velodrome is a lot different though... it'll require steering to get the true velodrome experience - where the banking is used for speed / attacks / positioning / etc.
Shane Miller - GPLama with the new test of the mountain bike course this is possible. I think that the sprint delay that’s happens in Zwift races would be harder to combat
I hardly ever see anyone running in Zwift, why does Zwift ignore its cycling core market and develop little used gimmicks? More TT tracks, crit tracks or simulated real world climbs please.
thats because compared to cyclist we are out numberd but there are alot of runners on zwift for sure , zwift has a put focus on running i gues cause its still a beta software for now and if they wanna charge in the future they need to add stuff after all the free years i gues. this track for example can make short uneven number loops to the 5/10 / 10em (16km) perfeclty and have start finish on the same point , make the zwift run races more inline with the IRL running events
@@victorlwd I'm not having a dig at runners, it's just that running is about 5% or less of the people that use Zwift. As Strava they seem far more concerned about herding a few lost sheep rather than the flock. I also think the MTB and gravel stuff is a complete red herring.
@@plantfuelled8912 I do both (Run and Ride) - having the track makes more likely to run inside and use zwift. Which makes me more likely to recommend it it to others. I see your perspective but catering to only your existing market and business model has its own risk - hence why I can see Zwift having a focus on running. Especially if they can license it into treadmills etc at gyms and in own market as loaded OEM type software. Most treadmills have a "track feature" however this zwift one already blows most of them away (except for lack of markings) - so I can see this as potential teaser into hardware integration for pretty low development cost and effort.
@@jeremyhopwood Yep, I've been waiting decades for a company to license virtual software to gyms (or as OEM as you said), they may be planning it already. Back in the 90's there was software (Netathlon) that was pretty groundbreaking, it even added internet capability. Unfortunately it never grew, if I had had the capital I would have invested in expanding it.
I was able to purchase a treadmill & the stryd foot pods over holidays for myself & wife. The stryd comes tonight, but excited to be finally in zwift!

Got to be the Roubaix velodrome next. Imagine the carnage.
Impressively consistent running pace! "Hooked up the tread tracker". OIC 🤔😆
Great idea! Thanks for showing us and Happy New Year !!
This i wasnt expecting, i've been wanting this so long !
Shane, When are they going to have a velodrome for having a go at the one hour record. Maybe with a ghost pacer for all the records through the year?
Every time I see Mike McCarthy I ask him, as I think he’s out best hope.
That'd be great. No idea about a velodrome on Zwift though.
We need a Paris-Roubaix road that ends at the velodrome.

Velodrome next 🤞
No sloths, unless we count your run pace! Love the expanded coverage of running on Zwift!
Oh... the burn. And I'll be back to the bikes now..... :)
Very cool. Stride On!
I have to question the sanity of creating a track in a virtual world, next step is to create a virtual treadmill.
They exist. They're on the new Crit City course. We just can't run them.
Why not, we already have virtual turbo trainers in the game :D
@@DarenC you need a virtual Zwift in front of the virtual turbo trainer to stop it getting boring.

So not a velodrome but a ramp for jumping! Nice!! See i know exactly what you are thinking.
Good. Safety hazards! Get those bloody pedestrians off the road! It's very embarrassing when they come past me on my bike.
I will be waiting for the Velodrome.
Love the shirt!
Love the T-shirt!
Happy new year
this is nice for some interval sessions
Up next Zwift velodrome!

So err Velodrome?
I wouldn’t bank on it. #dadjoke
Elimination races 👀👀
They need a cycling track!
Really and still no velodrome?! :(
Where are the track markings?
Who ever made this track had never run track...
Track markings and lap counter would be nice
Any way to get a bike on this course just to raise mayhem?
Not officially.
Is that run only or can ride on it too??
Run only.
Shane Miller - GPLama
Thanks
It’s probably stupid of me to even ask
He did 1 and half lap and it said he did 1 km
I jump-cut to my 2nd lap. The math checks out.
They can make a running track but not a velodrome. Tsk tsk tsk

Runners are fewer because that came years after cycling but our numbers are growing quickly.
