Love the idea of thinking about what the model was doing before this perfect moment the sculpture has captured for us to paint. Will definitely be thinking about this on my next project, probably just sit in front of the model for an hour or two just pondering all the possibilities, then go to bed. But it'll be nice just to sit with my imagination for a while.
The front leg works for me because it drew my eye first. With a still model or image my mind imagines what is happenening in that frozen moment of time. The Lion has just stepped forward out of the smoke/darkness, His gaze fixed upon Vashtorr *roll epic battle music*. Beuatiful work, as always Sam.
I must admit that I am not as smitten with the blue leg as you are, Sam. However my mind is alight with inspiration from it… the almost categorical separation of this type of aesthetic has me thinking of a grim harbinger set on the edge of a clifftop surveying a burning city which did not heed his brutal warning. Thank you for the massive inspiration, you always stoke that creative flame within me. You truly are master of theory. 🙏
I love the model, its beautiful different and brooding, but I love the different thoughtful and provoking angle (angel?) Of this video more. Thanks Sam
Really liked this Sam! Great concepts to be applied to all kinds of artistic practices. I love hearing how artists do what they do and how the move went from invention to realisation.
I would say the blue leg is a little more towards Craftworld Studio style of painting. I didn't really fully appreciate use of colour like that but as time goes on I really love that creativity
love your paintjob!! and yes, your thought definitely make me think about painting!! also i like the cape. i often have a problem with how gw sculpts capes but this one i like. the folds are far more realistic than a simple wave pattern. (though they could be even more irregular!) but i must add that i'm really not up to date with gw sculpts so sorry of this has been the case for a while already.
Uuuuh an unreleased mini! Exciting! On a more serious note: Really like the shield. Awesome paintjob overall. Will be more traditional myself if I have the chance to get the model one day. Releases suck right now.
Awesome talking through the why's and how's of what you did with this guy. I wonder if you saw the War Com article that had all the other versions, and if you did, which ones did you dig the most from there?
Sam says he could review the theory and composition of every model he paints... I ask, why don't you then!? These are the "painting" videos I get the most out of.
The thinking I do with every model is how do I paint this model as fast as possible whilst not making it look shit. 12 hours later..... Fuck, why does it look so shit after 12 hours? God damn it.
The painting gods have blessed us with another Sam Lenz video!

Great video. I found I could listen to you talk about this stuff for a very long time, it’s really engaging and thought provoking.
I stumbled on this random and just wanted to say good on you for taking chances and trying something new. This is how we push the hobby forward!
He’s one of my favorite painters
Stunning artist
The blue foot is outstanding to me. Strong focal point. It adds to the power of his step.

Very beautiful model and so inspiring, Sam! Thanks for sharing your insight 🤙
Very glad to see another video.

Absolutely stunning! Another mini from our own warrior poet.
Unchained!!!
The more I look at the mini the more amazed I am at how well it is painted
Liked this kind of „artist interpreting own work“! More of this please
Lionel Johnston
The video that we didn’t know we needed! Awesome content as usual, thanks again my dude!

The outro.. 🤣👌🏼
Ah man I love you, please keep it up and stay the way you are - unchained! Cheers
Thanks for the very inspiring video! 🌈
Oh was this meant to be a patreon vid? Welp, cool! Thanks for sharing!
The acting advice tidbit will be pretty handy. 🤘😎
Fantastic paintjob!

"Ridin' on in the mist of morning
No one dared to stand in his way
Possessed by some distant calling
Riding on through night and day" :)
Is that 4 bottles of Vallejo Buff on the rack above his right arm to the left? 😉
Any chance the inner cloak will end up as a guide on your patreon? I look at it, and I see it, but I am baffled on how to then go execute
In need to get to this level of NNM. Iv only been able to mimick a less lusterous gold on accessories bits so far

Great stuff friend 👏 👍
