Everyone in the comments (fairly) praising Taika, but can we take a second and credit the interviewer too? Very nice balance between nerdy and general questions, mix of humour and detail, good questions to allow Taika to just riff while still keeping it in form, and obviously a solid knowledge base of the director, movie, and source materials.

It's the lowest possible denominator used to serve the most important Marvel characters and take them into the best cinematic direction. Hell, they took a thousand comic books and condensed them to 20 movies. There's no perfect answer, but I think they are more reimagining the characters rather than killing them. The comics still exist, this is just movie version.
Being true to the comics is a pitfall. See how DC failed miserably. Stuffs that are "cool" in the comics aren't necessarily tasteful when copied into the films.

No, he's not. Waititi's usage of humor in Thor 3 was very excessive, the characters can't go 5 mins without making a joke of themselves. He also broke character with both Thor and Banner. Thor, while good-natured in essence, is short-tempered and grumpy most of the time. And Banner is tormented and haunted by his alter-ego, as he blamed himself for the damages Hulk's done whenever he lost control and let Hulk out. They both became too goofy and out of character. If you want a relatable and rootable character without being an excessive joke, look at the Russo Brothers' "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". It's got great moments of humor, but the overall theme is serious and it delves into Steve's struggle of purpose and identity.
Phạm Việt Long I think the movie and character of Thor suited them and the movie, the comedy was not too much but also, seriousness was not needed in this movie the subplots in the winter soldier like HYDRA and Bucky made it a very serious situation, this is different here, it’s just a family affair

I agree with Phạm Việt Long, although the movie was hugely entertaining, Thor was suddenly self-aware and able to laugh at himself, as well as being able to joke around with other people. This was never something that he was able to do before. Remember in Age of Ultron when everyone was trying to lift the hammer, and it was all fun and games until Cap showed he could move it? Thor completely sobered up when that happened because someone else being as *good* as him was a threat. People like that can't make fun of themselves. Nor has he shown himself even to be able to catch half of the jokes thrown around in the Avengers films. He was a straightman like Cap. This Thor had a personality transplant because Marvel realized how lucrative non-serious films like Guardians of the Galaxy are and because it was what Chris Hemsworth wanted. It was a ridiculous film. It was a fun film, but it was more like Peter Quill Goes to Asgard than anything else.

One of the things I love about Ragnarok is that it didn’t feel like they were pandering to anyone. It felt like they were focusing on making a good movie and they succeeded.
Instead of making Valkyrie a six foot two inch blond Germanic goddess like in the comics they made her a 5 ft 4 inch Person of Color with no charisma whom Thor gave his rightful thrown too despite her being a murderer. Didn't Pander?

I have never seen an interview where this man isn’t enjoying himself(the mc) he’s literally a good host. The people he interviews ARE always comfortable and it’s something worth watching. He always asks the right questions- I could literally watch an interview about a film I don’t know about and may not be into it but then at into it because of him.

I JUST started watching all the "newer" marvel movies to just watch this movie from taika, and it was definitely worth it! Love his humor, his way of storytelling and conveying emotion in this and his other movies!
I just did the exact same thing yesterday, starting with the first captain America which in my opinion was not so great. Will still watch Taika’s though.

I watch a few choice "cinema" content channels. Ali is the best interviewer, consistently, bar none. And easily ranks in my top 5 for "easy to listen to" presenters overall. Growing up in New Zealand i have had my fair share of movies from Taika, Boy, Hunt for the wilder people and Ragnarok just to name a few. Its so nice seeing someone following in Peter Jackson's footsteps. Plus found out me and him are from the same iwi. Te Whanau-a-apanui :)

I just rewatched all 3 thor movies and let me just say this. Thank god for this guy and his sense of humor. Made the movie soo much more enjoyable to watch. That subtle humor is why Marvel movies are so much better than DC movies in my opinion
i love this shit because the movie really hit its stride like it kinda brings you back to the early marvel days and it has really good character development for thor and loki and it introduces really cool new characters and then they all got messed up by infinity war and i will never forgive them for that.
Legend. Saved the Thor movies after the weak link that was Thor the Dark World, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a really great underrated movie too! Haven’t seen JoJo Rabbit tho and I’m more excited for Thor Love and Thunder more than most of the upcoming MCU movies.

Taika sympathized Chris so much so that he allowed him to change Thor image entirely and improvise a lot. Chris was so bored with classical Thor already.

Whoever whatever says about Marvel movies, for me Thor Raganrog is the best one for me. It has everything. Fun, humor, action, satire, good story, never gets boring, makes fun of it self, can be serious also... Just perfectly imperfect!
Agreed. It takes a spin instead of trying to be pretentiously dark and serious. Taika developed characters in this movie better than some had 3 movies to develop. He gave them more relatability and made them easier to understand and have fun watching.

I just rewatched all 3 thor movies and let me just say this. Thank god for this guy and his sense of humor. Made the movie soo much more enjoyable to watch. That subtle humor is why Marvel movies are so much better than DC movies in my opinion

i love this shit because the movie really hit its stride like it kinda brings you back to the early marvel days and it has really good character development for thor and loki and it introduces really cool new characters and then they all got messed up by infinity war and i will never forgive them for that.

Legend. Saved the Thor movies after the weak link that was Thor the Dark World, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a really great underrated movie too! Haven’t seen JoJo Rabbit tho and I’m more excited for Thor Love and Thunder more than most of the upcoming MCU movies.

Whoever whatever says about Marvel movies, for me Thor Raganrog is the best one for me. It has everything. Fun, humor, action, satire, good story, never gets boring, makes fun of it self, can be serious also... Just perfectly imperfect!
Agreed. It takes a spin instead of trying to be pretentiously dark and serious. Taika developed characters in this movie better than some had 3 movies to develop. He gave them more relatability and made them easier to understand and have fun watching.
