Fun fact, I used to work where the thumbnail image is from. It's from a place called House on the Rock in southwest Wisconsin. What your seeing is a life-sized sculpture of a whale fighting a giant squid. It's in this massive room with walkways that spiral around the model. It's disorienting enough trying to look at it when the lights are on, but when you're opening up in the morning and only have your dying keychain light to illuminate the way, seeing this barn-sized creature emerge from the darkness is pretty awe-inspiring. It's like seeing a shipwreck emerge from the haze.
I wouldn’t be awe inspired, I’d just be freaked the fuck out be turning on the light to illuminate this massive big toothed sculpture. I’m not diagnosed, but I think I might have Megalophobia, but there’s no way to know until I get some kind of diagnosis.

to me, megalophobia is hard to truely capture the essence of in photos, paintings, or on a screen. most of the fear is how real it is. seeing something so gargantuan that makes you feel minuscule in comparison, which is already a primal fear humans have; that thing being so large you have to tilt you head all the way back, or even turn around just to understand how big it truly is. it’s lovecraftian, i’d say. the size and scale is often foregone when cropped to fit on a screen or a canvas, especially if the camera isn’t pointing up at what ever it is tl;dr, imo big thing only really scary irl but still interesting

I remember feeling extremely uneasy when our teacher took us to a nearby church to show us how the church bells worked in the 1st grade. The bell tower was extremely tall and I would look up to the ceiling knowing those gigantic bells were right on the other side of it and they could fall and crush us all inside the tower
Well, when you see them on images maybe don't look that scary, but imagine being next to one of those huge things, the idea of something so big that confuses my depth perception scares the hell out of me
For me, you have to be looking up at the big things for the fear to trigger. Its just the thought of "what if that skyscraper fell" or "what if the sky came crashing down" that gives me chills.
It's just the fact that I imagine myself looking at something huge by being just under it having the thought it can fall at any seconds make me freak out

I often dream of megalaphobiclly (aka abnormally large buildings) large buildings and objectives, and often I'm in or on said large buildings/objects in my vivid dreams. I'm not sure why I feel so at ease in said buildings that are huge, but I guess that even since i was a kid, I wanted to live at great heights. There's something about looming over buildings and even looking towards the horizon above clouds that makes me feel at ease when I sleep.
Instead of being afraid of big things, I am more afraid of the thought that they could collapse or fall at any moment.or being the one who falls off those Things but that Is rather acrophobia tbh. 2 years later edit:I think another reason is a mixture between fear of heights and the 'primal' sense that big things are dangerous,like a big bear that could easily kill you,this sense is still here and stuff that puts in perspective how big these things are makes this images unnerving to some,however im no scientist so prove me wrong.

Im in between having the phobia and not. I appreciate big stuff (natural/manmade) really even when its far away. The only time it would get me is if it were to be moving or above me, seeing the thing from bottom to top when i look up(which gives me the feeling of being crushed all of a sudden even if its just there).

You look at the vast pattern of ever-so extending surfaces, looking you dead at the eyes, you feel like you shrunk to a minuscule size, you can’t comprehend the scale of the structures, you feel empty, it looks like you can’t run away, you feel scared.
At random times, I'd have dreams of myself looking up in the sky and seeing tons of huge spaceships flying overhead. Like really really huge spacecrafts with random designs like the Star Destroyer from Star Wars with extra wings, and the Battle Cruiser from Star Craft. Upon seeing those, my first and foremost feelings were fear and awe. Fear maybe because deep down I know that there's always something above our heads that's ready to destroy us at any given time. Awe because they're space crafts.

I often dream of megalaphobiclly (aka abnormally large buildings) large buildings and objectives, and often I'm in or on said large buildings/objects in my vivid dreams. I'm not sure why I feel so at ease in said buildings that are huge, but I guess that even since i was a kid, I wanted to live at great heights. There's something about looming over buildings and even looking towards the horizon above clouds that makes me feel at ease when I sleep.

Instead of being afraid of big things, I am more afraid of the thought that they could collapse or fall at any moment.or being the one who falls off those Things but that Is rather acrophobia tbh.
2 years later edit:I think another reason is a mixture between fear of heights and the 'primal' sense that big things are dangerous,like a big bear that could easily kill you,this sense is still here and stuff that puts in perspective how big these things are makes this images unnerving to some,however im no scientist so prove me wrong.

Im in between having the phobia and not. I appreciate big stuff (natural/manmade) really even when its far away. The only time it would get me is if it were to be moving or above me, seeing the thing from bottom to top when i look up(which gives me the feeling of being crushed all of a sudden even if its just there).
As someone both afraid and amazed by large things, Im both unsettled but satisfied

You look at the vast pattern of ever-so extending surfaces, looking you dead at the eyes, you feel like you shrunk to a minuscule size, you can’t comprehend the scale of the structures, you feel empty, it looks like you can’t run away, you feel scared.
At random times, I'd have dreams of myself looking up in the sky and seeing tons of huge spaceships flying overhead. Like really really huge spacecrafts with random designs like the Star Destroyer from Star Wars with extra wings, and the Battle Cruiser from Star Craft. Upon seeing those, my first and foremost feelings were fear and awe. Fear maybe because deep down I know that there's always something above our heads that's ready to destroy us at any given time. Awe because they're space crafts.
