Seeing fans from all over the league come together and appreciate such a beautiful moment in hockey is truly special. Despite the rivalry, as an Islanders fan, I would like to personally thank the Tampa Bay Lighting for a class act, and wish them good luck in the playoffs.
As a Boston fan, it's wonderful to see Isles fans showing their appreciation for this world class player. I still wish he chose to retire a Bruin though
I'm sure he had the same idea, but the NHL is a business & Chara ended his career with the team he made his NHL debut with.
@@theicchamp06 Excuse me he made his start @ Ottawa & was traded later on to the Bruins !!!
Well he did start with the. Isles. With all due respect
It is, but he was drafted by the isles and played his first three seasons with him.
@@1947maco he started with the Islanders then got traded to ottowa after
coming from a leafs fan big z one of the most class acts to ever grace the nhl. He will be missed by any real hockey fan what a career honestly.
Well not really. Face puncher and a notorious cross-checker. Not a class act but still a great and legendary player that will be remembered.
uhhh not exactly. I'm glad he is retiring. He was a dirty player throughout his career.
Agreed
Exact. tall player that have learned to play hockey..respect
@@patienbear blah blah
One of the most unique players the game has ever seen.
Well, another slovakian NHL legend has (most probably) finished his beautiful ice hockey career.... pozdravujem zo slovenska Zdeno!
I’m a grown man and this made me cry. He is Hockey History.
Then you're not a grown man..... or.... you're a very weak one.
@@darthollpheist1156 Stop it.
Why would you cry over this.
@@darthollpheist1156 so, either you have no clue about hockey, or a huge chip on your shoulder. Maybe you can't show emotion.
Whatever it is, I feel sorry for you.
@@davidharrow9025 great question. Because Chara has had a monumental impact on the game of hockey and the amount of respect shown to him at the game was amazing.
Big love from Slovakia Zdeno Chara you are Slovakian Legend☝🏻🇸🇰❤️
Have a tear in my eye watching this.Class act by the Lightning to honor one of the greats.Absolutely LOVED him as a Bruin.THANK YOU ZDENO!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding respect for Chara! I never get tired of seeing this tradition for players who are or may be retiring.
A man who played the game with respect repaid all that and more. Nicely done by the lightning.
His fitness level is off the charts. I recall seeing a video of him climbing to the roof of a gym with his bare hands. Even at 45 years old, he is stronger than most NHL players.
A beautiful moment in hockey.
Okay, so this is a really heartwarming video and all that, but the best part is at 4:30 when the feed flips to Anson Carter drinking water for half a second before they realized their mistake.
The most casual pan in/out hahaha I loved it
All hail to giant! Never forget 2012 IIHF WC when Zdeno and Miro Satan lead team to win silver medals and put on Pavol Demitra jersey after final game.
Loved watching Big Z play for the Bruins and hated that they let him go. I hope this isn't the end of his career. If it is, glad to see him score a goal in his final game. 👏
Bruins fan here, stick tap to Islanders, Islanders fans, and Lightning for a very classy end to this game. I am so humbled, thanks to Z for a tremendous career.
I always wanted Chara to be a Ranger. 1996 was one of the worst draft and I’ll never forget my uncle saying Chara was gonna be a stud. All the best “Big Z” you’ll always be one of the best guys in the game!
I don’t care what anyone says but being there when this happened made me cry happy and sad tears we may not of had an amazing season but this was one hell of ending. LGI
I thought it was super classy of the Lighting players to each come over to him. Very cool. 👏
I always had a foreboding sense of fear whenever he was on the ice. He was a giant, literally. He will be revered for years.
The big Z. What a player. Love to watch him play.
Last representative of the Slovakian golden age of hockey retired. Chara is my favourite player of all time, even though I never even got to see him play. The man was a living power fantasy on skates. What is there not to love?
Flames fan here. It was an amazing experience watching this guy play while i was growing up. Definitely a classy hall of famer and an absolute legend! Im glad i got to live through the better part of his career. Good luck to him wherever goes from here! Long live Chara
Much love for big Z
I think it's awesome that he ended where he started, what a great sendoff for a great player.
I'm a Rangers fan, but in moment like this as a hockey fan i have to say that Chara was a great hockey player and a great team player. He'll be missed in this league, wishing him the best.🏒🏒
Never liked chara the most since I'm a Dallas fan, but the man has earned every bit of applause from hockey fans. Great way to cap off possibly the end of his elustrious career.
What a classy player. Chara and team. Islanders and. Fans 🗽
chara is my hero, absolute legend... Champion among men...
Great player and outstanding leader...If only he'd stayed in Ottawa :). Best wishes for the future...
We are a passionate bunch aren’t we?
He is/was an absolute great teammate, being from Boston, I have been a fan for years.
Getzlaf, Chara, geez. Red wings fan here but gonna miss these guys.
Other than hoisting the Cup, is there a better way to end one's career?
Chara was one of those guys you loved to hate.....unless, of course, he was on YOUR team. Definitely one of the best defensemen I've ever seen play, and I've been a Penguins fan since the day they came into the league, and the first few games my Dad took me to see were with the old Pittsburgh Hornets (they were Detroit's AHL team back then) back around 1963 or '64. So I've seen a lot of great defensemen, and Chara is right up there with the best defensemen not named Orr.
Funny enough I was hoping he would sign for the penguins last season. He would have been a great guy to have here.
As a habs fan, Chara was I player I absolutely hated on the Bruins, because he was so efficient, physical and was always a threat at the point. What a great career
As a Kings fan I always made sure to trade Chara to the Kings in any NHL game video game. Much love for the big Z.
Amazing....the guy was born and raised in Slovakia, and he speaks better English than 2/3 of the NFL and NBA.
He speaks 7 languages. That's unbelievable.
Thank you.,Z .33. for being a bruin.. thank you for all the memories all the years and Boston and thank you for 2011 Stanley cup Boston bruins . Z. 33. Your number should be retired next to Larry Bird number 33... Titletown Boston
Followed Big Z since his AHL days with the Kentucky Thoroughblades. Long career, enjoy your retirement.
Gosh just seeing made me sad, retire in peace big Z
Legend
NYI Islanders fans showed more love to a life long Bruin than ANA fans gave Getz. The career points leader long time captain. Well done NYI.
The People of California can't get their heads out of their own asses long enough to pay respect. That's why they live in California
Getzlaf was a very negative arrogant and often very despicable player, nowhere near to Chara - quality and humanity-wise. I remember Getzlaf from at least several really wrong situations, in the NHL and internationally, and there wasnt one situation where Chara would be 1 tenth as arrogant and full of himself as Getz seemed to be most of the time. Great players are celebrated and remembered also for their personality.
End of one éra.. Chapeau
Always one of the biggest threats on the ice, literally. I’m happy he gets to enjoy retirement, but does it not make me a little upset to see the shift coming. Soon, the names I grew to recognize will be in the rear view mirror & the new generation will take their place, as it always happens. Thank you for your time and efforts Chara, you were a part of what made the NHL an excitement to watch
Cmon Big Z. One more season. Make it a quarter century!!!
Fair to say it’s the end of an era.
Era ??? Chara : Its just the end for him about 3 years too late
atta boy Chara
Classy dude. Didn't say a damn thing about himself.
Yes, he is and was and will be loved also because of his personality and charisma (not like Getzlaf, who was always full of himself)
i hope it is not his last game if it is i will miss him so much
Zdeno Chára 💪 🇸🇰..........👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
KINGS FAN HERE, HEY THANKS FOR THIS I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT &I didn't know he played 24 Seasons? Geez did announcer get that right? In any case DB now the big Z really to bad he GETZ didnt get in the playoffs, As a Kings fan we are really really excited each time DB is on the ice GOD I HOPE HE CAN LAY 1 ON macD .. 1 more for the road
Always liked Big Z. Glad he got to retire as a Bruin. I look forward to seeing him in the HOF. God Bless Z and his family moving forward!
He retired an Islander.
everyone looking up at him like they are kids and he's an adult......that dude is huge
Гецлаф.Чара,Браун!
Buddy came to win a cup and got that season
holy shit....1997!
We all know. Z started with the. Islanders buy remember also🤔 It's not who you danced with at the party ,but who you left to go home with. Love this 👨 man. Islanders forever 🗽
Where you find video when chara throw puck after match? thanks for answer!
All video clips used came straight from the live MSGGO broadcast from the game.
9/20/ 2020 Chara signed a one-day contract with the Boston Bruins to retire as a Bruin after 25 NHL seasons
Isles funs you are great!
Tampa Bay Lightning shook hands with Ryan Getzlaf & Zdeno Chara, both were playing in their final year of their NHL careers.
I hope he's plays one more season with the Iles because him and the Iles deserve another cup
Technically he said he is unsure. Chara is a crazy bastard. I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to go past gordie howe and play into his mid 50s
3:10 slovenian omfg after 24 seasons, they could already know that he is Slovak
Some americans (noone please take offense) cant even find Europe if you gave them a globe, so you have to kind of expect similar mistakes every now and then, but yes, they definitely should.
Chara was originally an Islander, traded away in 2001 to Ottawa.
Aaaaand after all that he comes back next year to play his 25th season lol we can dream
Guys, please, what´s the meaning of those numbers 9 and 22? Thanks.
All of the Islanders players wear those numbers to honor Clark Gillies (9) and Mike Bossy (22) who both sadly passed away this year.
@@Gunshot25 Thank you.
I think he might actually play next season
Please bring him back for one last. Stanley. Cup winning season with Isles
Real shame this didn't happen in Boston.
wait what? chara retiring ok he a hall of famer
He's done enough. He has nothing left to prove. He's a Hall of Famer for sure.
Pán Chára..
Do not be surprised if you see him in a Ranger uniform next year..It's very possible ? I think he still wants to play ! (My opinion)
Yes, he wanted to and we Slovaks all knew he was undecided still.
Greene should pass the puck to Chara during the last seconds! Instead greene keeps the for himself.
Exactly, I was paying attention to that too, weird that was.
when chara came along they had to change the rule on the length of the sticks. at 6'7" the sticks weren't long enough.
It's Chára, no čára witch means "line" no kára witch means slang word for "car" 😅
Good heart by Tampa looks like he wanted him to score
Never would have thought that tall, awkward kid would play 25 years. Damn, I'm old.
Закончил, травмы челюсть сломана была...
3:31 two slovaks
He's not done.
He definitely is
he definitely is hanging up the skates
Lol. Considering every Islander came over to shake his hand, hug him and then he skated goodbye to the fans I think you can presume that was his last game, lol
@@MrOctober44 he is not sure if this is the end. But he is thinking about that so much.
@@MrOctober44 if you saw his reaction, he wasn't expecting it because he hasn't made a decision.
Why wasnt he wearing a visor? Zdeno Chara will be missed
Grandfather clause
@@ianstephenson9721 oh
Refs and linesman have no business in that line
But I still wish he hadn't won that Cup in 2011.
He's got one more game in him, the one where he retires as a Boston Bruin.
Started with the Islanders he’s gonna finish with the islanders
He got his first shot from the Islanders. I think it's a nice touch to end his career there. Of course he is always going to be Boston legend.
@@brianvanalstyne5712 Games played....
@@brianvanalstyne5712 His real career started with the Senators. He scored 20+ points a season there. And as an Islander he scored
@@dznutzz1228 bruh wtf u mean doesn’t count the team u first get drafted to is ur first team dont matter where he gets more points
Not slovenian but kk
See ya..... Now you can stop trying to act like you can fight and just be old like the rest of us.
I dont think you even knew which video you were making comment about when you wrote this, or you're just a moron unable to see a great sportsman and appreciate a great career.
Wow....total waste of a season...new home...same OLD Islanders
The team that went to the conference finals the last two years?
Oh wow...I forgot...thanks for letting me kn0w1009
The NHL has announced that if Chara retires, the rulebook will finally apply to all NHL players.
I'm glad he is retiring. I can't think of another player that was allowed to get away playing dirty. He always got away with it especially in the playoffs. I guess because hes 6.7ft the rulebook did not apply to him.
What a loser mentality you have.
Waah.
@@MrOctober44 ?
Good for you. It’s not exactly classy to say this about somebody’s last NHL moments.
@@matthewmatyuk I've been waiting for this day a long time matthew. If you watched chara in the playoffs over the years you would agree with me. Chara in the playoffs = crosschecks to the face, punches, punches, and more punches, roughing, etc. He could mug the opposition and toss them to the ice without ever getting penalized and the refs would just shrug their shoulders and say "playoff hockey". Whats the point of skill in the playoffs when you can just send out thugs to beat up the other team lol. He's the only player that consistently got away with it. I don't know how he played with the islanders but as a bruin the guy was dirtier than most.
