Exciting to see the evolution of FSD. No other car manufacturer has had the courage to attempt this. Over time, it will only get better and in the not so distant future, it will be complete.
I want to say I think you are testing the FSD beta just right. I watch a ton of FSD beta videos and almost all of them let the FSD do what it wants, even if it is something a HUMAN driver would not do (example, cross the solid white line or stop too far from the stop sign). They let FSD make a mistake without correcting it, and so nothing is sent back to Tesla to let them know the beta is making these mistakes (and therefore the mistake doesn't get corrected). Keep up the good work!
Just so you know, that follow distance adjustment with the scroll wheel doesn't actually affect FSD beta. You can use the "FSD beta profile" option in your autopilot settings to alter follow distance. "Chill" will give you the furthest follow distance.
Very interesting that follow distance isn’t a separate setting with FSD, but also interesting that it will happily follow with only one second of space on the Average setting.

I think that the public like the courage of the whole FSD public experiment. Such efforts are so rare in a modern and highly litigious society. And yet here it is. Trial and error. And normal people get to take part. What other companies manage to harness the power of the public’s very own personal desire for progress?
I think it’s great, but it certainly invites regulatory control. I’m going to enjoy every minute of it while it lasts while hoping that is a very long time.
I can tell you that all the times you think it's going to hit the curb or blow through the last tab of the lane...it's not. It's very good a detecting and judging it's distance from curbs, and it likes to hug those lanes. But, it needs to learn the difference between missing curbs and turns, vs what's comfortable for us human drivers. If it's going to convince us that it can fully drive and knows its environment, it has to learn how to drive in a way that is comfortable to us. There's a difference between how far it knows it is from a curb, and how far it needs to be in order to make us feel good about it.
It is absolutely negligent to let FSD Beta get to a point where you cannot prevent an accident. Doesn’t matter how many times it works itself out in the end. It only takes once, and then you are waiting months for parts to repair your Tesla, responsible for damaging someone else’s property, or worse.
All objects seen through the GoPro’s fisheye lens are much closer to the vehicle than they appear in the video.
