I'm finding that more YA romantasy tends to hit better for me, which is a shame bc I want adult themes and topics. I blame the booktokification of it all. A Deadly Education felt fun and different imo!
I loved the Lady of Darkness series! The first book is kind of hard to get through and my least favorite of the 5 books but trust me it gets so much better and you really fall in love with this found family!!
I loved When the Moon Hatched, and I think I liked it so much because while reading the physical copy, I had the name glossary to refer back to any time that I had questions. It was so helpful and made the book really enjoyable for me
I am currently reading on an e-reader and spent at least 20 minutes studying the glossary, it was so intriguing and enough to pull me in alone! I am loving this book!!
@@chrislee6194 it was soooo nice to have handy. I’m glad you’re loving it. If you haven’t read the Kindred’s Curse Saga by Penn Cole. I highly recommend that series too🫶🏻
When the moon hatched is literally one of my top reads this year 😅 I LOVED it I thought the parts that were confusing were meant to be that way and the 2nd book it'll just all come together
Heartless Hunter is called The Crimson Moth here so it confused me trying to find it for a while. I enjoyed the book and the end really paid off in a way I didn't expect it to but I did not like Gideon for most of it where I feel like I was supposed to and the chemistry between the leads didn't do much for me. That said the cat and mouse unfolding of the story was great, really entertaining reading to see how they were trying to navigate each other.
I really enjoyed all three of these books but I read When the Moon Hatched physically and I have heard a few people who listened to the audiobook say they really struggled with it (some then switched halfway through to the physical book and said it much improved their reading experience). It wasn’t a perfect, 5⭐️ for me but it kept me engaged and I’ll definitely pick up the next one. Love Heartless Hunter/The Crimson Moth and the Lady of Darkness!
When The Moon Hatched is so far my favorite read of 2024! It’s a book that should be taken slowly and soaked in. Wouldn’t recommend it on audio 3x speed!
I did not enjoy Lady of Darkness. It was too much like TOG and the heroine was supposed to be this badass super assassin and was just a whiny teenager. But I’ve come to the conclusion that all romantasy is focused on a whiny teenager that supposed to be badass and a grumpy grizzled soldier guy that perpetually saves her. One romantasy series that I really enjoyed (YA) was The Lachlan Feuds by Robin Mahle. Scarlet Princess is the first one.
I have not read many romantasy books either and the ones I did read were never absolute bangers for me. However, I finished reading The Ever King by LJ Andrews yesterday and it was a 5 star, no questions asked. Highly recommend!
I was SOOOO disappointed in When the Moon Hatched too. It was a confusing mess that made me question my sanity and my intelligence the entire time. DNFing was good for my mental health 😂 Heartless Hunter was so much fun though and I’m glad you also enjoyed it! I can’t wait for the second book in this duology.
Loved Heartless Hunter!! And I think I'm going to remove When the Moon Hatched from my TBR because based on your review, I really have no interest in reading it now. 😂 But honestly, thank you, because you just saved me a lot of time...that book is too thick to end in disappointment! 💛
I think the speed may have contributed to you not understanding when the moon hatched. I reread the first few chapters and it was a lot better than when i tried to audiobook it. I think flowery dense writing, my opinions of Emily wilde too, are best read physically for some reason.
Also you should read Spark of the Everflame (The Kindred’s Curse Saga) it’s so good! Very slow burn but worth it! It’s fast paced and keeps you on your toes for sure!
i’ve seen Monte's comments for what feels like years but never knew he had a channel until he commented on one of your videos. Would have subbed sooner
Great vlog ❤. I really enjoyed both Heartless hunter and When the moon hatched (though I agree that When the moon hatched is confusing). I haven't read Lady of darkness yet but I'm very excited to read it soon.
I would be interested to see your thoughts on the next Lady of Darkness book bc I had very similar thoughts to you on the first book! Feeling lukewarm going into the second one 🫠
I enjoy your reviews specifically because you do not bait around the bush. If it's good, you explain why. If it's not good, you explain why. Now I'm going to read heartless Hunter because of you. I usually don't like why but I will give it a try. And I got the audiobook for when the moon hatched and I got about 3% into it and I could not stand the narrator so I didn't even continue. And now I for sure will not be picking it up.
@@Melodys_Inner_Circle Agreed! I don't know what it was but I've read a dozen Romantacy books in the last few months and that one in particular just hit for me :)
Saw someone else do this, so my blind guess is maybe your fav will be Lady Darkness? I don’t know anything about any of these books though so that’s literally be throwing a random title out hahaha
I'm so sad about When the Moon Hatched, I was about to pick it up cuz I love dragons (I absolutely hated fourth wing, never finished it) but now I'm not going to 😂 I want good dragon books damn it
I'd like to think I'm not stupid ... Moon Hatched broke my brain and made me feel stupid!! I DNFed it and will never go back and read it. It was awful. If I have to work that hard to understand a book I'm out. Geez I even read Dune and didn't find it as fucked up as this book LOL
Totally agree I have read such big epic sci fi and fantasy books and that book I didn’t understand what was happening for pages upon pages it was hard work I still have the last 20% but dunno if I want to continue 😂
@@nicnac1261 I give you huge credit for getting that far. I think I managed to get to the end of the 2nd chapter and I was done. I will admit I don't think her style of writing is for me at all. It's far to overly descriptive and flowery. What would take someone one sentence takes her two pages to describe. I can't deal with that. I'd like to keep my hair.
@@coffee_cookies_books thank you took me forever tbh I had to keep rereading pages of prose that made no sense tbh I have read wheel of time and this was harder crazy I don’t think the descriptions are done well at all it’s a shame as I think the story could have been good I don’t blame you for stopping there tbh I’m getting sick of the side quests I might just put it down but I’m super stubborn I’m glad it’s not just me though I don’t know why she didn’t just write simply lol
When the moon hatched was so disappointing. Like what was even that primitive scene, what was the point. I have like 50 pages left and It was never brought up again? Where in this world are we, why are we being told the emotions instead of feeling them? Why is the FMC so upset about a character we literally only saw and heard in one chapter? I have so many questions and nothing was answered.
I read M. Roehrich’s most recent series and loved it. Then decided to read the first. I have been stuck at the 50% mark of Lady of Darkness for 3 months. The pacing is terrible. The author definitely learned how to pace things better in her second series. I plan to finish Lady of Darkness because I trust the authors plotting. But dayum…the first 50% dragged big time! I also read Heartless Hunter. It wasn’t for me but I can see how someone could enjoy it. I am someone who gets stuck on the little things. I just could NOT believe that Rune escaped capture as the Crimson Moth for 5 years. Her “machinations” and plots were laughably simple. And I guessed every single twist. All of them by the 50% mark. YA is just not for me.
Another tip for getting audiobooks on KU books....if you have the Amazon Echo , it can read any book to you in your KU library as an audiobook. It is great! I wish you would have given when the moon hatched more time because it really was a great story!!!
I picked up when the moon hatched because people hyped it up so much and I was so disappointed. It was not it and I have told people that it’s not worth it and I cannot understand the hype at all. It was plodding and boring and not sexy when it was trying to be. Not the vibe.
When the Moon Hatched was such a disappointment for me. I was so here for it at first with the cool title and the cover and ... ugh. I have no proof at all and I'm not accusing anyone of anything, BUT about a third of the way through I just thought to myself...is this shit AI? Like maybe not the writing but the editing? the brainstorming? Something just felt off. Stiff. Boring. Idk. Like a cool idea was run through an AI writing assistant by the editor. Either way it isn't for me fam.
I'm finding that more YA romantasy tends to hit better for me, which is a shame bc I want adult themes and topics. I blame the booktokification of it all. A Deadly Education felt fun and different imo!
so true! I find soo many adult romantasy to be too lust-driven compared to the yearning we love! which is sooo sad bc I barely read ya anymore 😔
The cut to you saying “this book sucks” 😭😭😭 i started howling
