You're better off using an old computer like a Windows 2000 , the older processors produce less noise then a modern processor would. I'm not sure about the operating system how it copes with streaming but you could put Linux on it

I have found the opposite to be true John tbh and newer cpu allows for newer other things which has resulted in a better end result for me

@@johnsweda2999 more efficient platform overall larger buffervin cpu more cores so more isolation of duties within windows and it just seems to give better results with how I use windows with jplay and the optimizations I run. If your doing it a different way maybe its better hard to say. I can only report on the experience I have had

Why don"t you use a Linux-based audio dedicated distribution like Daphile instead of a Windows based solution ? Nice projet by the way.

Let yourself know Daphile and you will certainly be impressed and will hardly use other options.
You can install it in "dualbbot" allowing you to use windows natively as you always have.
Congratulations on the wonderful work on this channel.

Hey Terry , it's Marc with the Ref'5 from Montreal Canada , i have a bryston BDP-3 digital player/streamer and it's a very good dedicated player with a good power supply built-in , only thing i'm wonderring is that my SSD Drive is connected internaly in the unit on the mainboard of the BDP-3 with a small SATA cable that's on the board , it's a very short one like 3 inches max. Was wondering if a JCAT Sata cable with really make a small difference in SQ considering the unit is already in the good price range quality. thanks for your input and merry christmas to you my friend

Sorry i am not up to this level of PC but I am building a dedicated PC for music. So a music "server" just stores music like a NAS and pushes it out to other devices to play, but yours is a server AND player since it stores and plays off the same machine?? What software besides the Win Server OS do you run to output the music and control it?? Mine plans to be headless and not attached to a monitor or TV. Thanks!

I use JPLAY Femto as my music player and library manager, then various different windows optimisations to help turn windows from sounding awful into decent. I have written an article on my website with all this listed on www.pursuitperfectsystem.com/building-the-ultimate-audio-music-server-again.html

Yeah sorry it was all on my old website and I didn't port it across because computer tech moves so fast a lot of the "mainstrream" products I used are absolute now so it wouldn't be the "best" advice now anyway. If your keen to know best advise build suggestion visit the JPLAY forum there are lots of very active computer audio enthusiast on there that are super help[ful and always tinkering. I learnt 99% of stuff from there especially at first.
