Me and My Guitar is the ultimate study in T licks. TR will live on in the The Antique, his records...but most of all in the lessons he passed down to the flatpickers who have followed.
Tony was absolutely off the chain musically and vocally speaking!! He was playing like he was gonna show that old Martin that he could do whatever he wanted to do up and down the neck of that great antique!! What a great performance by all!
It was 58957. He was royally pst that he had no choice other than fly it and the S.C as well, across country. He hated to fly anyway, but especially if he had the added anxiety of worrying over how the baggage handlers would treat 58957 once out of his sight. He had seen baggage fall off on the tarmark too many times and the driver not even notice. He would give the check luggage curbside guy a large tip and ask that he saw to it his guitar was handled with the utmost of care. Both guitars were only flown with their Viking cases.
As a guitar player I appreciate the artistry in Tony's and the rest of the bands playing of this tricky song and melodic rhythms, but as a singer - well then, I'm blown away by Tony's range, lyrical expression, and blues-style in this song. He was a master and will always be with us as long as we pick up an acoustic guitar and flat pick! :'-(

Yes he was. He had his burner on and had the faucet on to fill his water kettle. That's when he was snatched out of his earthly body. The Lord said,., I've already brewed our coffee son. Your having this cup with me. Tony was always praying. He always held my hand or India's and he always prayed outloud. But he always had a special prayer time as well, where he called all his puppies to come pray with him. They would run like crazy to him when he called.. ok puppies, time say prayers. They would sit around him still as little statues until he said Amen. Then they would run and play tag on the top staircase, like they had earned some wild time from God.
You know? No cause of death mentioned for Mr. Rice. He had a condition similar to tennis elbow, terrible arthritis in both hands, and his voice failed him years ago. This was his life, his love! Maybe a broken heart caught up with him as mine began to break when I heard of his passing! RIP TONY!
God bless you for this upload; the best I've watched so far. Anyone suggest a more intense version, let us all know. Tony was so intense in this set and the band was in tune with his spirit.
@@cartereddy8829 You got that right. I love the smaller ensemble; each musician is putting it out there, love, love what Mark did on bass. Tony went to jazz nirvana on that '86 version.
Tony at the peak of his guitar and vocal powers... I was there in ‘88 and ‘89... The Tony Rice Unit never failed to deliver the goods...
RIP Tony.
I saw him at Winterhawk in those years....pair ful!!
You should know about delivering the goods. One of the best to ever strike a note.
peaks in his late 30s its so amazing.
Primetime burning of the Antique. I got to meet and talk to him a few times. Always a gentleman, always a pleasure to hear.
There is no one that compares to the Guitar Master, Tony Rice. We'll miss you, but we'll always be inspired by your singing and picking!
The pack is empty. All that's left now is an is an empty box. Truly awesome guitar man.
The way Wyatt and flux looked at Tony @0:30 when tony sang "if he can't go to HEAVEN honey" cracked me up. I think it startled them 😂
Damn, the tone...The tone! Still the best tone ever! Did I mention TONE?!
Agree 100%

I've seen a lot of TR videos and he is absolutely on fire here!!!!!!
Wow.... there will never be another!!!!
The people he has touched is numberless!!!
God bless the Rice Family!!!
Rest in peace Tony Rice you were truly an icon
The one and only!
RIP Tony
The whole reason I ever started playing guitar is Tony. He's a musician that was copied by many but never matched. A true icon.
and his hero who he built his playing upon was clarence white, correct?

@@kennethburris94 You can hear clarence saying wow in some recordings and he also says I can't pick as fast as you tony
When you say "built off of Clarence's style", Clarence's style was heavy syncopation, which Tony avoided.
My goodness. This is Tony with no limits. Thanks for posting!

True. Except, judging from the tortoiseshell pickguard, this is Tony’s Santa Cruz, not a Martin :)
I don’t think so based on the absence of the Santa Cruz “SC” neck inlay.
Also if you’ll compare the pattern on the pick guard, it’s the antique.
