April I have been watching you since day one. It's been pleasure to watch evolve and make and make and make. I'm never tired of watching you. I love the outdoor shower you built for you mom.
Had one of these made out of that white molded plastic, same design, bought it back in the late 80's. It handled everything, including my 235 lbs. Finally gave up just this spring. I'm going to have to convince myself to make one using your plan.
I was a little disappointed that she’s competing directly with him as they used to do a podcast together.Hope that she’s just been so busy, she didn’t realize that he’d done this same design three years ago.
@@jasonbailey9139 It's a classic design that's been around decades, if not longer. I don't believe either one of them invented it, only their individual takes, with the handle hole, etc., any more than a maker doing a video or selling plans on a bird house or saw horses is 'competing' with other makers. I don't think their friendship is in any danger from this.
It's not uncommon for Makers to make similar things. It's a close community and we are all great friends. Jay actually commented on my chair saying how much he likes these. Thanks for watching.
I made one just like this, but not curved, at school when I was 11 or 12! Such a cool wee chair. Woodworking was a compulsory subject for half a year back then :)
That is sooooooooo cool April, also liking your new show with Tim an Richard. Have you ever thought of having kits of all you make and sell them to those that would like them and we build them? I don't have a lot of room or tools like you and yeah. Anyway keep up the great work and can't wait to see what you show us next.
Sick build April. I need to build 3 for the family. I hate cheap camp chairs. You can cut the handle curve and rail curves with nothing but a chisel if you lack more advanced tools, the round overs can also be created with a spoke shave if you lack a router.
Absolutely love the chair design. I bought the plans and have made a couple of chairs so far. The only problem is, they are very time consuming to build when your looking to sell them. I cant bring myself to put a price tag less than at least $150 per chair, but in reality no one is going to want to spend that kind of money on a single yard chair. I think I'm going to try and adapt the design to use marine grade plywood for butt and back support pieces, so as to cut down on the tedious routing and sanding process that is required for the 20 slats. Nonetheless, the chairs are great
I had my high school students build a similar chair. We cut out the curved pieces on the CNC. I made a foolproof assembly jig to make sure everything was perfectly square and spaced.
April awesome chair. Really cool design. Hopefully you get great use out of it for many years to come my friend. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God bless.
Very nice take on this. Here in Kentucky we have been building these for over 100 years. I like your build with the wood choice because Kentucky people just build them out of two or more types of wood mostly oak or popular. The reason for this is because we might have to use them for fire wood during winter. Nice build though. Still a huge fan.
I am curious what your inspiration was for this project. These were called camp chairs when I was a kid and were common. A few years ago I got plans from Jay Bates site and made three of my own. Like you I added the handle feature. I made one out of western red cedar, and two out of oak. The cedar one is light, the oak ones are more like furniture - surprisingly strong and heavy. I think I prefer your template design, as it is simpler.
Great video - well organized and presented, and excellent techniques. I would offer a safety concern (from a grey-bearded old-timer): consider removing your rings when working in the shop to reduce risk of loss or serious damage of your digits.
Very nice chair April! Looks great! Seems like a straightforward build. I’ll have to try one of these. Thanks for sharing this one with us! Keep on building!
Thank you for all of your amazing videos April! Side note, we’re you in Colorado last week?? I’m positive I saw you in Little Bear but didn’t want to interrupt your lunch!
Awesome build, great walkthrough, glad to see you sticking around here, ya bigggg TV star lol. U rock, long time viewer. Thanks sooooo much again for all you do!!!
hi April. I just wanted to start with saying, thank you for your beautiful personality and all your videos. I have been watching you for a couple years now, gathering tools, and now I am at the point where I want to start working on my home. I started watching your videos from the very beginning and am trying to see where I can start with building and organizing. my question is which playlist to start watching as a beginner. the playlist that I started rewatching was the shop projects. any suggestions on making the boxes and shelves for organization? Thank you and have a good day.
Love the design and want to make a couple of these!! Question though, why not just use the und of your oscillating belt sander versus your spindle sander?
before buying plans what is the dimension of the material you used to get the 2x' ? for the legs? in my area cedar is sky high, low quality, hard to find of anything past 1"
What size lumber are the legs?? I,ll be ordering the plans in the morning but i,am wondering what the legs are.i,ll be sawing my own cedar lumber for them.
This chair is same kind chair I made about 30 years ago on my school project when I was on 6th grade, drawings were from old wood project book from fifties or sixties.
Awesome chair April! It doesn't look very complicated to build either. I'll definitely be ordering your mdf templates. Thanks so much for making these available for us to build. I love your videos, keep up the great work. 🙂
lastly, I have all the basic tools you use. to include miter saw, circular saw, table saw. I do not have a band saw as it seems a bit intimidating for my level. I would really like to learn to do the"dado" I think so I can slide shelves. I think that's what it is.
Hi, I got my chair templates and getting ready to start the project. My mill cut the boards to 2x6 and 1x4 actual dimensions instead of the nominal lumber sizes. Is this going to cause me a problem? Thanks
Nice build, nice video! Quick question April. Was there a siren in the background for your audio? I can't tell if the siren is part of the background music track or a local pickup from when you recorded the talking track. Just curious.
April, well done and elegant chair. Do you have plans/video for building a small 8'x12' floating deck. I have a small yard that's not completely level and I'm looking for the best/easiest way to build a level deck foundation to build a storage shed on. Thanks kiddo, Jess
These chairs are great!
Yep! Yep! Yep!
Jay, your chairs are better :)!
Lmao
I’ve been following you from before you quit your regular job. Still enjoy your builds. Thanks April!
Awesome! Thank you! And thanks for being along for the ride.

This is a genius design. Simple yet attractive and functional.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great chair for sitting out and playing my guitar. Just the right angle. Thank you.❤️
I'm glad you like it!
Yet another amazing design! Excellent Craftsmanship, too.,
Well done, April!
Thank you so much!
A stowaway patio table would go great with a pair of these!
Great idea! Thank you!
Nice chair, very similar to a chair that Jay Bates did a couple years ago.
I was a little disappointed that she’s competing directly with him as they used to do a podcast together.Hope that she’s just been so busy, she didn’t realize that he’d done this same design three years ago.
Some of us have no idea who that is. There are no rights to ideas. And if he did it 2 years ago, then no reason to not do this video now.
@@lamartya.4042 that is not always true lol.

Super cool and very creative! That would be perfect for outdoor firepit chairs requiring minimal storage when not in use.

That design is awesome! Fantastic build April! 🌟👍

Jay Bates
The Jay Bates plan is a very beginner project. The way he added tabs to space the slats and such. If you have a CNC his version is even easier
Really, really cool project!! Not only does it look great, but it's so convenient to store.
It really is! Thanks for watching.
I have a few of these. They are excellent for going fishing. Just throw 'm in the back and UR done. Simple, comfortable, cheap; the ultimate combo.😀
Awesome! Thanks for watching.

That's a great idea!
Nice job April!
Thank you!!
Ever consider trying steam bending such curves ?
30 years ago knew a old time made em out of red oak. Was heavy to move. Glad you used cedar!
I really like this take on the simpler viking chair. Great job!! Just subscribed
Awesome work! I can see a collaboration with Brothers Make to fashion these out of recycled plastics.
That sounds like a great idea!

Love these chairs, how many board feet ot cedar does it take to do one? I am ordering the template kit now , I have to locate my cedar. Thanks!
a handle in the seat portion makes it even easier to stow/assemble as well.

The sides of the chair, are they 2x6 or 2x8?
I’m interested in these plans but depends on the size of the sides.
