Giri's own mom is apparently, a little bit strict. She waited for over a year after quitting her job to let them know and even then it was kind of accidental, if I remember correctly. She knew what to do to handle the situation because she'd been down that road before.
My wife is Caucasian, I'm Chinese. Before we started dating, we were in a University Japanese class with a group of people that went out for sushi and karaoke and such. One weekend for an Anime convention, I worked it out that it would save a LOT of time and money if everyone stayed at my parents' house. A week before the convention I went over to her house, introduced myself, gave my number, my parents' numbers, my address, a list of who else would be there... My eventual wife said it was excessive. I was like, "heck no. That was barely even sufficient."
I'm also from an Asian country and I can say that this is quite a common trait to some of us. Older parents will forbid you to get a bf/gf even when you reach early 20s, but also asks you over and over when you'll get married. This applies regardless if you just hit 18 or you're 28. Sooner or later same parents would panic if you can't find someone yet at age of 30. Or if you're a successful person, they can let you off without marrying till 35 because they'll eventually bug you so they can have grandchildren. I'm just thankful that the younger generation aunties and uncles has been more considerate with us.
It's because many of them were raised during the age where late teens or early twenties marriage were common. They skipped dating phase because that's how it is. They don't accept how both the world and the younger generation think differently. Not all of them being malicious about it thankfully.
@@ZeroXSEED Indeed. It's what really just worked back in their times. We're in a generation where technology changed the way the way we interact and start a relationship with others.
I used to go to IHOP at midnight on a school night. Long as I was still going to school and not causing trouble, my mom didn't care what I did XD It's def a lot more freedom, but I think the flip is there isn't a lot of familial support. They assumed I would just figure out how to adult on my own, and since I have the social skills of a feral cat I never learned how to ask for help. It's like a mental block. So yea, pros and cons for both sides of that coin 😅
lol Giri to the rescue! Her experience really showed through lol. It's not about charming the parents (though that helps), but addressing any concerns/fears the parents have. Her proactiveness shows that she understands those concerns and it's all already sorted out. So naturally Michi's mum would feel reassured.

Giri coming from a family with strict parents, I think she understood what was going on, hehe. I still remember how worried Giri used to be about her mom finding out that she was a VTuber.
it doesnt even matter, in indonesia you can go to jail if you're caught with a person of opposite sex in your house and they are not your family or spouse.
Being raise by very strict parents sounds just sad. I have friends like that, and I can't help but to feel pity that they have to ask permission to live.
It might be overprotective for the US but for SEA, this is very common :3 you would be considered an irresponsible parent if you don't care about your kids. Now that I'm an adult it's not that big of a deal to check-in with my parents every time but it just eases their mind and takes less than 10s so why not
Honestly this kinda mother behavior is the norm for alot of cultures. Me and wife have been together for over 15 years. My mother in-law still calls and checks on us multiple times a day. If we are traveling its calling every hour to give her updates on our location.
This sounds annoying, yet im almost jealous. My parents actively did not want to know what I was doing or be bothered by my existence in any way. There was always a "why are you telling me?" energy when i asked about going somewhere and "oh, you survived? That's nice i guess..." Energy when I got back. My mom once told me to just have a gangbang and pick the best performer when i told her i had a crush on more than one guy. I was 12. She also told me to strap a mattress to my back and go earn the money myself when I asked for school supplies.
Welcome to Asian parenting lol. If she gets attached and the BF passes the parents' standards, it'll be more lax (though not by much, depends on how much the parents trust the guy). After marriage the person taking care of her will be the husband so parents probably won't call much. But if she's super close w her mum they might still be doing that often. A bit of cultural context: in a lot of Asian countries, the traditional thinking is that you're a kid regardless of age until you're married, only now you can get into adult-level trouble. One generation ago (aka her parents' time) people were probably marrying in late teens/early 20s, so that was kind of true. So those strictly parental standards are somewhat understandable.
If you have a tightly knit Asian family, it's rare to start dating and get married without the family vetting them first. Even if they ultimately don't have a say in the matter, it's just something that they have to do.
Not gonna lie having conservative asian parents sounds aweful. But i guess in a lot of ways its just as bad as having conservative parents in the US. Their fine but only if you live life their way. Edit: also as someone who has experience with conservative families, its true they care, but the reason they push their values on you is because they care about the VALUES not YOU.
note about the edit: it's not that they don't care about you, but that they have fears of what could happen to you if you don't at least follow some of their values. they do care about you, just their values cause them to have concerns that a secular person might not necessarily. it's a subtle distinction, but one i grew up adjacent to (most my extended family is very socially and religiously conservative christian)
Then one day without warning they switch from "boys no" to "grandkids when"
How do they expect "grandkids when" after they have been "boys no" for like 40 years straight? xD
