first time I have heard of a snow machine in reference to foam. I have always just thought they were the things on the big things with fans and water nozzles for ski resorts. Certainly looks dead simple.

Ok, so you showed how a snow machine works, how to fill one, and how not to blow the foam off the top after filling. Aren't you going to show one in operation?

Thank you for the videos on snow machine cleaning. I have successfully used snow machine for years, proplem free, however this holiday I have a snow machine sending the air backward making bubbles into the snow liquid soap. Its an anatari unit. If you have any comments please advise. I will follow your cleaning instructions. The tubes are already clear.

+Robin Noyes I'd suggest maybe washing the sock on the front of the machine to make sure it's not gummed up, and if the pump isn't passing fluid despite being cleaned, then check that the outlet right-angle pipe on the pump isn't blocked. The sharp bend often seems to clog up.

Ha! I'm currently taking my snow machine apart, as I want to extend the sock by means of a tube, so that the main unit can be hidden away, and I just have the sock part visible from the roof.. it's for Christmas... I'm fed up with housing it all outside under a tub, waterproofing, hiding, and getting up there to change fluid etc...
also going to extend the tube to the reservoir, for easy bottle changes.... I thought I'd just see if Clive's already looked at a snow machine and yep! Never fails. Haha

The blower section will have to go to your end location along with the tube as it uses an outer air flow to strip the bits of foam off the sock. If you just put an air hose to the sock it would result in big dollops of foam falling off it instead of blowing out. (That's how the nightclub foam machines work.)
I'll be doing another comprehensive snow machine video soon.

Hi Clive, yeah I was was toying with the idea of using conduit inside a drainpipe... then the project starts to get more involved the more my mind wonders! instead of ripping my beauty apart I may buy a blower from Fleabay.
alternatively you build it and charge me for the parts and you get a video too haha
keep up the good videos... even the wine induced ones .

ThePaulius snow boys use a system with a base station where the fluid and the main fan is house the attached is a big hose with a nozzle they work quite well I use them at work

Since I don't know the product locally, is there a chance of video showing the snow-machine in use?
That quite much apply to other videos too.

Can you show me how a steel burning laser works? Well, more importantly, how to make one from my blender, a cheese grater and my old harman-kardon stereo? :-)

Have you ever seen "Louis & Luca and the snow machine"? I think the one they battled with was a bit more complex than this!
I can see how one of these could be fun to have around on Christmas Day.
I wonder if we could modify a turbocharger to do the same thing.......

Oh wow! So simple! I think I need to make one of these for xmas 🤣 I'm sure I can make one on Fusion360 to the same dimensions using video frame @ 1:30.. look like 8mm holes for the circular arrangement of holes!? Don't seem to be any free stl with this design yet!

They're often available cheaply as entire machines online.

    Hello nice video like everyone!
I would like to know if sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) can be used to produce the snow liquid or if Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is really needed which I cannot find
    THANK YOU

The best surfactants are ones supplied in liquid and not solid form. I've tried a few like Cocamidopropyl betaine. It only takes 1 or 2%.

      It feels like polyester.

Shampoo and water. But the real stuff is often 1% sodium laureth sulfate and 99% water.

I need that exact same pump for a smoke machine. But I can't seem to get them anywhere so in real Clive style I'm gonna do some botch job with a old usb pump I have

    • @bigclivedotcom
      @bigclivedotcom  8 років тому

In a smoke machine the pump has to be able to handle the back pressure from the heater block. You can buy generic replacement pumps for smoke and snow machines on eBay.

seems very simple actually. Would be fairly easy to do A DIY version. Just for Giggles

These days it's cheaper to buy a small home unit and if desired strip it for the blower and foam sock assembly to build onto a bigger fan if desired.

Hmh. I misread the title of this blog. I read it as "ice machine" known as a Zamboni. I have seen them working, and I would like to learn more. However, its not really your thing.

+Jim MacLaughlin I'm not sure it would fit in the bench. But I'd still take one to bits.
