Good video and some really nice marble eyes! You should also make mention of line diameter and trolling speed as well especially with bottom bouncers. When letting out your planer boards adjust the spool tension so the line comes off the spool at a slow and steady pace, about 50 to 60% tight. Engage the line out alarm aka “clicker”, place the bait and planer board in the water free spool and place the rod back in the holder. Engage the real when the planer board reaches the desired distance from the boat. Hope this works well for you and your subscribers!
Keep the in-depth finer points of what you do coming. Would love to see a video of you just doing what you do from start to finish. No commentary just Tom fishing in real time. I spend hrs out on the boat for the 15-20 min when the stars align and it all comes together. Hooked up!!!
Here's a challenge for ya tom. Do these techniques when your in a derby. Everything changes in a derby up here in canada and people pre fish. You have a lot of open water. Don't think I've seen you river fish? If you had. send me a link. If you're not a derbyman. Sorry I missed a video where you post this. I'm a tournament fisherman myself. And open water is very common here. Hot day and the only.option is to go out to the lake and slip bob or lindy rig it. Prefishing and derbies tend to get different up in Northern quebec. Btw you have a very nice boat. It feels like you try the same lake most of these videos.
Really love all these videos. If you only knew how much all your videos have helped me and my family catch not just more walleye but just more fish in general. Keep it up bro love it.
Very nice! I never mind when Shelby gets in the camera view. Tom you have a good thing going my friend fishing everyday and lucky enough to have an attractive woman that loves to fish with you. Congratulations! And always love all your videos and all the knowledge you share. Great job both of you.
I dont have a boat or fish finder ...maybe a kyak sometimes. Can someone do a video or recommend one on how to find walleye based upon weather time of day and features to look for please!
Hey Tom, love your videos. This time of year I watch all your stuff multiple times. Quick question. If you find yourself in a county that only allows one line per guy is it still worth trolling with only two guys? Would you take a different early fall approach???
Great series of videos - always looking forward to your videos. In this video you noted you run side view and see the pods off to the side. Can you show some screen shots to provide us a view of what to look for. Thanks -
Are those the same fish that you would troll minnow baits at dark/ evening bite on Cisco base lakes? If yes which style would you rate as the better approach
For the 5 Bozos that disliked this video. What could be the reason? Please explain. Shelby dump you?Toms Ex girlfriends?Fellow UA-camr fisherman jealous that Tom adds a 1k subscribers to his cult per week? Maybe it’s your dog that dislikes the video because you’re too lazy to take him fishing?
Tom , Avid wat her of your videos. I have learned alot. Hey my best friend just bought a 205 comletitor and has the rail system . What rail adapter slide mounts and what rod holders do you prefer. Or is there somerhing out there you wish you had?
Open water trolling with a bottom bouncer? Wouldn’t a bouncer spook the fish in really clear water? I would think snap weights with a longer lead would be stealthier? I’m fairly new to open water trolling for walleye.
Fishing lake Erie we use in line planer boards from the start of the season till the end. Used every in line planer board that was ever made and by far the new ninja boards my dream weaver are the best hands down. Especially when you’re fishing by yourself. Total game changer. Great video good to see Shelby with you.
You said you were fishing about 20 feet deep in 45’ of water. Can you touch on how you control the depth of your lure when trolling? For example, do you drop the lure behind the planer board 70 feet to obtain 20 foot depth? Obviously depends on the lure but if you could talk about that in the video or as a reply to this post I’d appreciate it. Thanks!
Whatever you are dragging, go somewhere on the lake and troll to the depth you want it to be, at the speed you wanna go. When it hits bottom, that's where you planer board goes. Then troll deeper water.
I have a question on your side imaging. your in 40 feet of water. When I am in 40 feet all I have is 40 feet of black from side to side how do I get it to be like how you have yours?
More seasonal in our experience. We use live bait, mainly minnows, and plastics up until June 10th or so when the walleyes are still up shallower post-spawn. We will also troll crank baits 5-15ft or so as well during that time. If casting live bait and plastics isnt working we will try trolling cranks. We use spinners and lindy rigs when the summer warms up with a variety of things (live bait and plastics). Cranks on bottom bouncers is nice way to try and give them something different as well.
Bottom bouncers will help keep whatever hook and bait setup you have up off the bottom more consistently if the fish are being assholes and being picky. Whenever we start to troll deeper, we usually will put a lindy or a snap weight setup on to see if they want to bite right off the bottom and we will also run a bottom bouncer to see if they want the bait or lure up off the bottom on 1 or 2 feet.
Those are some beautiful Wisconsin Golden walleyes. Gotta love a lady that will unhook and hold her own fish lol.
These two tutorials have been great. Gonna give this a try.
You guys in Wisconsin are spoiled with 3 lines!
Great videos! Thanks again for doing what you do…and I would kinda like to see Shelby catch a few muskies👍

Awesome tips for beginners I definitely need to put some more videos out like this
I've been waiting for this episode. I have never used planner boards.
Work day just got postponed by 27 minutes
Looks like muskys comings 👍🏼 always nice to see you having fun hook 🆙

Always great videos.. would love to see you fish in canada.. in those remote fishing lodges.

great video Tom
Have you ever tried tripping your boards?
The loop trick
It’s great with mono line
Love the trolling videos! Can you do a kayak video next?
Great video! Keep em coming!!
Thank you! Been wanting to try this for awhile now!
Are those the same fish that you would troll minnow baits at dark/ evening bite on Cisco base lakes? If yes which style would you rate as the better approach
Tom, what is the model number for the replacement clips?
Which fish finder are you using for side imaging?
Tom, How do you know what depth your bait is running? Very much enjoy your video's. Thanks, Chuck
tom... just wondering if i see you using bottom bouncers as your weight when trolling ? why not use snap weights ... less cumbersome i would think !

Hahahaha love this comment! 😂
Where can I find dive curve info for spinner rigs and worm harnesses?

Great video!
You should make some type of creative catch n release shirt / sweatshirt.
What trolling rod holders do you use?

When you say in line what do you mean?
Look up catamaran boards and you’ll understand
Never though fishing was this complicated
Is there a way to troll on a budget on big water thanks.
Lucky man Tom you are great video man God bless
Do you adjust your springs when doing spinners vs.. cranks?

Change range to 100
How often do you fish that lake?
Still, no trolling reels in the description.
Very nice guys
Where is the thermocline at ?
How do you decide if you're using spinners or using cranks, or both? Seasonal?
More seasonal in our experience. We use live bait, mainly minnows, and plastics up until June 10th or so when the walleyes are still up shallower post-spawn. What size opti boards?
Any chance your compensating for something with such a long rod. LOL Great job
Why use bottom bouncers, rather than inline weights or snap weights?
Bottom bouncers will help keep whatever hook and bait setup you have up off the bottom more consistently if the fish are being assholes and being picky. Whenever we start to troll deeper, we usually will put a lindy or a snap weight setup on to see if they want to bite right off the bottom and we will also run a bottom bouncer to see if they want the bait or lure up off the bottom on 1 or 2 feet.
I mean thermocline
What happens if I’m marking everything like 45 down in 60 feet. Do you just not fish for them?
Salmo Free Diver gets 42 feet down with 10 pd braid. Tested by me : )
Lead core or the 50+2 method depending on the lure
Please enough of the trolling videos
