Gday Ian Castle here, your Aussie Vocal Coach and this is the 2022 Daily Vocal Workout for Tenors.
The 6 exercises in this workout are designed to get your air moving, encourage vocal cord closure, develop and strengthen your vocal range and improve your agility and pitch. This version of the workout features a background beat to add some energy. If you would prefer to just focus on the piano notes click on the link above for that version of the workout.
If you enjoy the workout consider a donation to support my work and if you would like to take your singing further check out the links below.
Use the breaks between exercises to have a sip of water and release any tension. Let's get started.
    Exercise 1 VA
    1111123454321
This exercise targets your onset of sound, the balance and coordination of your air and vocal cords. We will sing 4 detached notes followed by a sustained scale. Take a short breath between each of the detached notes to engage your diaphragm.
    Exercise 2 Mi Eh Ah
    1353454321
This exercise will focus on your chest and lower mixed voice. The goal of this exercise is to develop a fullness of tone in your lower range. As you ascend in pitch you will need to lift your soft palette, the fleshy bit at the back of your throat, to make the transition into lower mixed voice easier.
    Exercise 3 OO
    18876543231
This exercise will focus on the connection between your head and mixed voice. You will sing a large interval, an octave, from chest voice to head voice and descend back down through your mixed voice range. Make sure you support your voice from your diaphragm on the descent to create back pressure behind your vocal cords. This will help to iron out any annoying breaks.
    Exercise 4 IEAOUOAEI
    1324354653421
This exercise is a bit of a tongue twister and is designed to improve the agility of your articulators, your jaw, lips and tongue. Aim for a sustained vocal tone. Imagine a steady flow of air from your lower lungs to a point on the wall. Your goal is to place the individual notes on the air as it leaves your mouth.
Exercise 5 LA LA LE LI
    135853123454321
This exercise features a combination of different note lengths. This will help to develop a sustained vocal tone and agility through a large range. Some horizontal arm movements will help you to ascend and sustain the highest note of each phrase.
    Exercise 6 MUM
    Round Scale
This exercise is called the round scale. It covers a large vocal range and will require you to sing with efficient breath control and placement. We will repeat each starting pitch 3 times to give you time to gain confidence in the notes. If the exercise becomes too high or difficult please stop and wait for it to return to a comfortable pitch.
Check out the links on your screen for more vocal workouts. Let me know your favourite exercise in the comment section and if you enjoyed this workout hit the like button, share and subscribe. I'll be back soon with more workouts and lessons. Bye for now.

Side note: Exercise 4 is my favorite 😉

Thanks Jermaine! I will miss our sessions the next 2 weeks. Do I detect a hint of sarcasm regarding exercise 4? 😆

Great video and great exercise, this is really helpful. I did find it tended to focus a lot on the higher end of the range though, is that just because the low end needs less warming up?

I can't sing more than half of exercise 3, does that mean I'm pretty surely not a tenor? I adore Andrea Bocelli and I love to sing his songs even tho some notes doesn't sound very clean 😅
