- He was considered the 'most powerful bureaucrat' in the state of Odisha, often referred as the right hand of CM Naveen Patnaik. Kartik Pandian served as the private secretary to the Odisha CM for 12 years before joining his party, Biju Janata Dal in 2023. After taking voluntary retirement, which was approved in less than 3 days, one of the fastest ever, Pandian was appointed the Chairman of 5T (Transformational Initiatives) with the rank of Cabinet Minister.
A native of Tamil Nadu, Pandian began his career in 2002 as the sub-collector of Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district. Addressing the elephant in the room, he discusses whether he will take political reins from Naveen Patnaik and become his successor or not.
In the latest edition of the ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, Pandian also reflects on his journey and talks about his first meeting with Odisha CM, calling him the boss, and stating that he works only under the direction of CM Patnaik. Pandian delves into Naveen Patnaik's health and predicts that BJD is poised to sweep the 2024 polls. He also discusses the Puri Jagannath Heritage Corridor project, dubbed as a once-in-a-century temple development initiative in the state.
Pandian also addresses the allegations of a BJP and BJD nexus, stating that Odisha CM engages in politics only during elections and believes in the overall growth of the state. He shares some untold stories of former CM of Odisha, Biju Patnaik, and talks about devolution to states from the Centre, emphasizing that Odisha needs more funds but acknowledges systematic improvements.

Have you visited to Western Odisha?
I visited Odisha before the pandemic and was blown away by the beauty of the state. The temples, beaches , cave temples were exceptional. Kala Bhoomi is easily the best museum in India. I wanted to visit the tribal region soon. Looks like the state is in safe hands.

Quarter way through the interview and I am so impressed with his listening skills. Not a single interjection. He stops talking when Smita asks a question while he is answering. Certainly, it is his work that speaks of him.
I guess he's not used to the "shouting matches" that are presented as "debates" in our media.

Tamil Nadu's loss is Odisha's gain but I must thank the people of Odisha and the CM of Odisha for reposing so much faith on Sri Karthik Pandian; I am very sure he would have been a misfit in my state of Tamil Nadu, a most corrupt politics and the tainted mindset of the people. I hope to have a CM like Naveen Patnaik in Tamil Nadu and he will be in my heart like I have Narendra Modi Ji in my heart. I am a Non-Orrisan but must say I am really impressed with Mr Pandian's interview. So knowledgeable and well spoken, before this interview, I did not know him. He must continue to serve his people.
I think India (Odisha) should now initiate setting up Biju Patnaik University for climate resilient agriculture for Indian ocean islands. And it can be situated in Indonesia as honour to Biju Patnaik.
Naveen has ruined our state in last 25 years.. One core Odias are daily labors , housemaids , dadan , security outside state.. Another one core peopel under poverty lines. This man has sold Odisha to outsider.. Not a single job/ industry created in last 25 years.. He is selfish and power greedy. I lived in Orissa as Social Worker/activist some 50 years ago. Visited Bajirao Chatravas of Late Nabakrushna Choudhary (first CM of Orissa). Stayed with the farmers of Beliapal Block, Balasore Dist. before it was acquired for missile testing. Similipal - the Juang tribal people. Puri, Bhubaneshwar, Burla Medical College Hospital.
Good to hear an update of Orissa spanning 5 decades. And Smita Ji you did an excellent job in bringing out the dedication of 1% of the bureaucrat that makes Bharat tick.🙏

Surprisingly i didn't get bored, very well conducted interview. I was surprised that smita could ask some awkward questions to him . As a citizen of odisha i can safely say whatever he said more or less true, but it would be good if opposition parties here do better job . We are missing a good opposition here. There needs to be more awareness about biju pattnaik's work nationally.

I was in Puri just 2 days ago on 7th Feb and was very much impressed by the improvement at Jaganath Temple. My Dad & Mom visited the temple in 2000 and told me it used to be so dirty, crammed, but it now looks fabulous.

Excellent and informative interview. I am from Chennai tamilnadu. We have visited odisha 5 years ago and had divine darshan of lord Jagannath. stayed 5 days. We enjoyed the food, clean and big streets, beach . But I don't know much about Mr. Naveen Patnaik ji government. Really amazing. Mr. Karthik pandian sir is great. Proud to be tamilian . This Tamil's latest loot is bag project 1300 . A poor state like Odisha is distributiing people 1000 rupess and two bags with BJD logo and Nabin's name with government Revenue. Where as in UP a temple is constructed with 1400 donations and the Ayodya city is generating huge GST for the state. This is why everyone one wants Yogi.

Regarding migrant worker..it is not going to resolve overnight..improvement in education system, establishment of industries and more importantly change in people's mindset is necessary. As far as I know, there is a steel plant project under progress which is to be established in Kendrapara district. We need work, not empty rhetoric.

I have a fortune of going to odisha very recently and visiting Bhubaneswar, Puri, konark.. The Adibasi Mela going on in Bhubaneswar.... It's was tremendously well organised and rigorous planing and executions to put behind it was fabulous. The development has been done was impressive in every aspect of field. Infrastructures are pure mix of tradition and architectural Marvel. Bhubaneswar will next best IT hub of eastern India in 5 years.. TCS and Cognigent strat functioning already.
