Spyair Best Of The Best Interview: Momiken- Amateur English Translations: Since a lot of overseas fans aren’t able to understand what's going on I decided to make a full transcription below. These are not 100% accurate but they should give you a good idea of what they were talking about. Feel free to message me if you notice anything wrong with the translations. Hope they help until we get official ones! Kenta: Ah, thank you. Should we start? Momiken: Go ahead. Kenta: We’re starting. Momiken: Yeah Kenta: Ok! And with that- Momiken: Yes Kenta: Momiken-san’s turn has come. Momiken: Are we doing this dry? Kenta: We are not. This is for Best. Since it’s been released, Best Of The Best Momiken: Best Of The Best Kenta: Yes, it came out so.. Well we’ve done a lot of interviews in the past 11 years haven’t we? Momiken: We have. Kenta: But we thought it would be nice to look back at everything from our own perspectives. Momiken: That's right, to do it again after a while Kenta: Yeah to do it again. And, well I talked about the jacket (Cover) to an extent with Ike so we can talk about things other than the jacke- Momiken: By the way, what did Ike say about the jacket? Kenta: He talked about the number Momiken: Oh that, Kenta: And about how our pictures are here or how we had different color variations. What we were doing while making it. Momiken: Did you talk about how Ike’s chin was long? Kenta: Yes, we did. We said they erased his chin for him. We properly informed everyone of that. Momiken: You did? Kenta: Well, in regards to the jacket there are a lot of different parts to it, so reading about it on the official homepage would be the best thing to do Momiken: That’s true. Kenta: So I thought we could talk about from Liar to… There are 30 songs in this, 31 songs? Momiken: We’re not going to talk about all of them right? Kenta: Yeah, we won’t talk about them one by one but I thought we could talk about the general time periods they were made in. Like from the Last Moment, Japani, and Samurai period. And up to the 2nd year or something. From there we could do the 3rd year, 5th year and stuff. Momiken: yeah yeah Kenta: I thought that would be the best way to do this. Momiken you’ve always written the lyrics so I thought you could talk about what you remember most from this time period. I think everyone would want to hear about it. Momiken: Oh but I remember Liar really well since it was our debut song. Kenta: Oh, is that so? Well I guess that makes sense. Momiken: It was our debut song and it was.. Kawaguch-koi? Kenta: Yes yes Momiken: Wasn’t Liar the last song? Kenta: Was it the last one? Momiken:From Kawaguchi-ko Studio Kenta: I think it was. Up until we made Liar, we had songs that came out later like 0Game and My World. Momiken: That’s right.
Kenta: Well they’re all really nostalgic songs. Momiken: Yeah Kenta: We made a lot of those songs in the beginning, during our Indies time Momiken: Yeah, we did. We made things like My World. Kenta: Yeah we released that as is but you and UZ made them and had a- what do you call them- stock? Momiken: Yeah Kenta: Songs that could be released at any time if there were any tie-ups. Something we could just put out when asked to. Momiken: I was threatened like crazy, when we debuted Kenta: Before we debuted Momiken: Yeah, before we debuted- what did they say? I was told even 100 songs wouldn’t be enough. I kind of just thought “100 songs.. Isn't enough?” Well once you start going, there's not a lot of time to make songs in the beginning so I was told even 100 wouldn’t be enough. Kenta: Well, yeah that’s true. Momiken: Depending on the tie-up for example when they say “I want something like this.” If you only have 10 songs or something, they can’t pick. Kenta: That’s right, they need variation, Momiken: Yes yes yes, like if they say “I want a folk-ish song.” You’ll face the problem of “I don’t have something like that.” But if you have 100 songs, you might have one. Kenta: You might have it. Momiken: That’s why they say they want 100 songs. Kenta: That’s amazing, as expected- Momiken: I didn’t actually make them though. Kenta: Well well, they were saying to make songs while you have time right? Momiken: Yes yes yes, but I did make a lot of them. Kenta: And among them was Liar Momiken: Liar wasn’t a stock song. We got an offer from a Drama and made it from there. And UZ- Well, I was reading the Hammer Session magazine. Kenta: Oh really? Momiken: Yeah yeah, so I knew. I thought: “Eh, that’s going to be a drama.” Kenta: A live action one right? Momiken: Yes yes yes yes yes yes. I was experiencing everything for the first time, and it was this unknown, glittering world known as a Major Debut. It was this drama in a magazine, a live-action one. I thought “This is insane” Kenta: “There's only flower roads ahead.” Momiken: “Only flowey roads.” “It sold!” Kenta: Even before we released it. Momiken: Yeah, before we released it, I thought it was crazy. We were told, by the Sony people Kenta: Yeah, Sony told us: “The world is going to change.” Momiken: “Your worlds are going to change so, you’ll start selling all of the sudden. First of all, a lot of weird people will approach you in the Entertainment business, since it's such a glittering world. So be careful about ****, drugs, and..” what was it again? Kenta: Alcohol Momiken: Alcohol! They told us to be careful about this stuff. They drilled those warnings into our heads. And then when we actually released Liar- Bam! Liar was in the top 10, then it went to 55th. I still remember that now. Kenta: Ike said that too, that 55th was shocking. Momiken: “Eeeh?!” Kenta: It was shocking Momiken: “We were being pushed so much (By the company), so how was it so not impactful.” Kenta: Right? That was a bit of a shock Momiken: It was such a sho- Well, I was shocked by it but the Sony person in charge thought we would be dejected by it so- Well, that day UZ and Ike were at Hokkaido for a campaign but - he suddenly called me and you to a Korean Barbeque restaurant and told us: “It’s ok so for now eat some meat.” Kenta: *Dies* Momiken: “It’s ok it’s ok. First of all, congratulations on your debut, have some meat.” Kenta: Oh, the place in Kokubunji? Momiken: That's right, that chain restaurant- what was it again? Kenta: What was it? We ate at Kokubunji Momiken: We did, at that chain. Kenta: That happened, that happened. He told us “It’s ok” Momiken: He said “It’s ok.” And I ate meat not knowing what exactly was ok. Kenta: That happened, that's right. Momiken: That was probably the point where I was the most worried. I kept thinking “This is bad this is bad.” And to add to that, at the time they were experiencing the same timeline as us. The office, the recording company, our colleagues, and our debut were all around the same year. Kenta: There were a lot of people our age Momiken: Right. Ev- Everyone. But there were places where they were more worried than us. Since the results weren’t so good. Kenta: That's right Momiken: Right. I kept thinking “This is bad, this is bad, this is bad. It’s not our fault if everything goes down.” Kenta: That's right. We definitely had that period of “This is bad, this is bad.” Momiken: ”This is bad, this is bad.” And when I thought we wouldn’t get anymore work we had Last Moment with Bleach. Kenta: Ah that’s right. With Bleach. This was pretty amazing too. During our Indies time we liked Bleach so we made a Bleach song. Momiken: That’s right, we liked Bleach so we made a song but we didn’t actually think we’d get an offer from Bleach. Kenta: Seriously. As expected for our Jump kid, Momiken it was a shock. Momiken: No seriously, I was super happy. From there on we were going up the Jump stairwell. Kenta: That’s right. Since we didn’t get much with Liar, getting the Jump anime was huge for us Momiken: It was huge. But when we got the tie-up from Bleach, we thought it was great and that the song was good. Kenta: Well right now it's pretty popular Momiken: It is, but when you flip the coin, you notice that we got pretty similar rankings for it. Kenta: It was really harsh Momiken: It was harsh, “This couldn’t even be a one-hit wonder.” Kenta: We didn’t even get a one-hit. Momiken: We all kept talking about how amazing a one-hit wonder was at that time. Kenta: Ah, that’s right. “A one-hit wonder is amazing” Momiken: “It's amazing. A one-hit is amazing. It’s crazy that people can do it.” Kenta: Well, up until now, SPYAIR has never released a one-hit wonder. Momiken: That’s right we still haven’t gotten a one-hit wonder. Kenta: We still haven’t Momiken: Well the fact that we’ve been able to keep going for 11 years- and even now we were able to release our Best Of The Best and we don’t know much else but we’re 4th right now? Kenta: We’re 4th. Momiken: It’s amazing right? Being able to go 11 years. There aren’t a lot of people who do that. Kenta: There aren’t Momiken: Even within people with one-hit wonders there aren’t a lot who go 11 years. Kenta: And still get top rankings with their Best. Momiken: There aren’t Kenta: It was actually good for us that we never got our one-hit then. Momiken: That’s right. Although we haven’t even hit the point of Sentence Spring yet (I have no idea if that's right.) Momiken: Since we didn’t even get a one-hit Kenta: Don’t say things like “Sentence Spring.” Seriously, Momiken: Also known as- Kenta: Yeah the other name Momiken: Since it’s not their official name. Kenta: Yeah,

BEST OF THE BESTをMOMIKENと深掘りしてみる--KENTA:与MOMIKEN聊聊出道前的那些事
MOMIKEN:嗯 ,《Best of the Best》
MOMIKEN:IKE
MOMIKEN:确实,录了《My World》
~
