I just saw this routine for the first time. Watching the stunning evolution in the art and maturity of this partnership is truly a privilege. This was another piece in my understanding of the whole that will forever be Torvill & Dean. Thank you for making it available.
I have loved watching Jayne & Christopher since they first started skating, being an ex figure skater myself I really appreciated all they did on the ice and my daughter also a figure skater really enjoyed being entertained and watching their wonderful and intricate footwork on the ice gave us great pleasure. My favourite being Bolero that was superb and wonderful to watch. Their footwork and style in all their performances has kept myself and daughter enthralled for years , I am sad they are retiring but will watch a lot of them each day.
I find it extremely ignorant of them! They haven't got the foggiest what they are talking over and spoiling! The greatest ice dance pair ever performing an amazing work of art choreographed and intertwined with a piece of music from tve greatest composer that ever lived performed by one of the best cellists in the world! And those two commentators didn't have the good grace to show some respect to a MASTERPIECE!
I am probably going to be unpopular here, but if they wanted to dance a sarabande, why not use the one by Handel that everyone knows rather than the rather dreary unmemorable music they had here?
They actually didn't pick this music themselves. YoYo Ma asked them to choreograph an ice dance to this particular piece of music and they chose to use the routine at this competition. :) I don't think they used it again but I could be wrong...I'm not an T&D expert. lol
@@sarahwaldock3196 I always thought the music was off for them because even though it's one of my favorites, they usually chose jaunty or more rhythmic bluesy tunes. Have you seen the taped version of this they did for YoYo Ma? It's gorgeous...I think it loses something in competition. That's just my opinion though. My unpopular opinion is Encounter is their best routine...I love Bolero but for me nothing touches Encounter.
@@Awall79 I haven't seen it, no. And I get what you say about competition spoiling things. Even Bach. I'm not enamoured of this version for starters and it is not a piece which does a lot for me even played by Johann Moser. I'm probably a pleb but I prefer his organ music.

I've watched a lot of ice dancers, both before and after Torvill and Dean, and I still find them in a league of their own. Such great artists.

The ice dancing is beautiful but I find the music drab and boring. Sorry. Morose even. They are no doubt the greatest ice dancers in the world.
There's nobody that skates like them. Annoying commentary, stop. Just watch. Listen. Grrrr. I much prefer them quiet.
Yes usually commentary doesn’t bother me but this performance definitely needs quiet. Ugh.
